Helicopter Engineers & Pilot Association

About the military pilots thing.

I'm all for having them join. Like having a civilian license, joining our Association only shows interest and it would be a shame to close the door on that. It would be so easy for military pilots to think that their way is the only way - the system there does not help them learn that there are alternative means.

Let them in - let's welcome them and thank them for having the intestines to ask to questions!

I take your point -- "or equivalent national licence if employed by a company based in Canada."

We haven't talked about 'associate' members, i.e., foreign engineers and pilots?

What about the young lad/lassie (no aviation licence) employed as a gopher?

Exceptions could aways be made by the Board of Directors.

I think that we want to get this moving, sooner rather than later, with pilots and engeneers and worry about the exceptions later.

ok, so i send in my $200.

what's it going to get me? Has an agenda been specified yet, or is my $200 bucks going to be spent on a flashy membership card, with a quarterly newsletter?

I typically won't buy anything unless I know what it does or will do.

 I'm in for the association, but rather amused at the chatter concerning a name... If we can't even decide what the name will be.... then ... I shudder (too funny). Seriously, wake me when this gets going, it can only be good for us all

Who gets to join?
Just current pilots and AMEs working on nothing but RW or pilots and engineers who have worked RW and are working on something else? Or what about other professionals in the maintenance industry that work on RW as well as FW? Such as avionics and Structures? Do you have to have an AME license to join? If so, what level of license does a pilot require? What about the manager that is also a RW pilot or AME?

Just a few more queries to toss out - personally I am in favour as long as it is a sensible organization with minimal administrative costs.

Mini I dont have a problem with your question. We are at present trying to have people post on one thread so everything flows in one direction, instead of digressing to another.Maybe you are an owner or managment and trying to create havoc.Whatever, post on the other thread, thats what it is there for.
P.S. Please dont come back and tell me that you can do whatever you want, you can.You would only lose credability.

Well friggen parden me.If ya want every thing on one thread then say so.I am not an owner or managment. It takes many threads to make a coat.Thought there was a couple of threads going already.

P.S. I guess we better all do what ya say or lose credability!!!!

For the information of all Smart Ass’s on this site people will not have an actual say in the matter of the association until the WEB PAGE is up and running, a board has been elected by vote and to vote you must be a paid up member. GOT IT, so cut out the BS.

For those concerned about admin costs re office etc, we are talking about costs that can not be avoided, such as office space at my place, high capacity computer, laser jet printer, fax machine and whatever to run an office. Lawyer, accountant, word processing , is on an as required basis.

I will be available at no charge, except for expenses until the assoc. is actually up and running.

As for what to expect from the assoc. , miracles where not created overnight and it is up to the assoc. to set priorities, set up committees if required ,to achieve same. It is assumed that the committees will be voluntary and any expenses incurred will be covered by the assoc.

I will run the operation from my home for now with myself as go between and gopher for now. Hopefully I can get to the up coming HAC convention and explain our mission.

FYI I WILL SET UP THIS ASSOCIATION, IT’S UP TO YOU GAL’S AND GUY’S TO ACTUALLY MAKE IT HAPPEN.

I’m off till Tuesday.

Cheers, Don    ,got goosed again.

I find your comment disheartening. The leadership you show at this point does not reflect on a successful venture. For somebody who wants my money, you aren't being very co-operative or informative.
Now I understand that you may have issues with myself, and I hope that others can see thru that and realise that they too, if they pee in your bowl, will find themselves on the wrong side with no support.
I will wait to see your website, and at that point I will reconsider, but right now, you will not be getting my money until I know what you Don McDougal, and the association are capable of.
At this point it's a bunch of hot air.

my cheque's enroute via snail mail, mister!

Re : HELICOPTER ENGINEERS AND PILOTS ASSOCIATION, Canada

G’day Don…

Enclosed is my $200 cheque to cover membership fees for this extremely worthy endeavour you are currently spear-heading. As indicated in the past, my recent return to flying helicopters in this country following an extensive hiatus, has shockingly proven to me that working conditions within the helicopter industry in Canada have apparently not improved to any significant extent during this same time period. This situation can only be appropriately and professionally addressed by a unified/common voice which is both open to ongoing communication within its diversified membership and capable of dealing with any/all expressed concerns in a timely manner to the ultimate and mutual benefit of the membership, operators and customers alike.

I thank you for your inititiative and dedication towards this goal. I wish to offer my assistance in any reasonable capacity, keeping in mind that my own flying experience is relatively minimal… my niche may be more suited to addressing the needs of the low-timers, (having experienced their frustrations for a lengthy period of time) with specific consideration for our Association’s provision of ongoing development of our new pilots to ensure a strong future within that particular aspect of our industry.

Regards…

It appears to me the closer this association gets to being reality the more support it will garner
My questions are ; what will the main objectives be? Is the goal to 'blacklist companies based on experiences of generaly incompetent employees? What will this association do to improve the working conditions of a very diverse industry and how ?
Ihave worked in this industry for well over a decade I have never asked for a raise but recieved many .I have been rewarded with unexpected bonuses at christmas yes, but also in the middle of winter.
When I felt my employer was treating me unfairly and I was unable to resolve the issue ,I QUIT
Iwill support an association that makes loss of license insurance life and disability more affordable but as for protection from evil employers not so much.
perhaps some pilots would get treated better if they spent less time in front of the computer and more time helping on the hangar floor.

Gonads are useful in their purpose but they are no substitute for brains

What I find disheartening are those people that just do not "get it". Meaning that it is not up to Don McDougal to show "what's in it for me". Those that have that attitude are sure to be disappointed and will probably not find what they are looking for in an association - some people are never satisfied. Rather than adopt that attitude, become involved to ensure that your concerns are considered.

If you take the time to READ what is happening, you will understand that Don is taking his time and reputation and is taking the first ENORMOUS step in making this concept a reality. He readily admits that this is not an "out of the box" solution and will take some time to become all the things we want it to be. Be patient, but do not be critical.

The success or failure of this venture rests on all our shoulders, as it should be. What's $200 a year? $15/month for a chance to do something good for this industry, or are we all following the industry example and expect everything for nothing. I will tell you right now there are other things I could spend the money on, but none of them have has much potential return on my investment.

Go Don! Do not allow yourself to be dragged into these little debates at this stage. You have bigger issues on the go. Just get this thing off the ground, and we will worry about the c of g later.

I'm also very curious to see what the agenda of the association will be. In my own opinion, I want nothing to do with an association that does not have it's full and undivided attention focused on the Canadian helicopter industry. What are the most importent issues that will be addressed when things get rolling (Labour Standards, Wages, Tariff Rates, etc.)? Maybe someone with better computer skills than myself could get a poll going on the major concerns of our CANADIAN Industry. Are the issues going to be the same in the east as they are in the west? With plans to be headquartered in the east will the west be alienated? I don't mean to offend anyone here but what does the military have any buisness being in an association that I thought and hoped was going to be for the better of the commercial helicopter idustry in CANADA, my tax dollars already pay for the military issues, and I sure don't want to see any part of my associstion fees going to support them.

This kind of reminds Me of the old game show Let's make a deal ,and spending $200.00 on what's behind curtain #3 wihout any idea what is there.
