delta tell us what you think and please be candid

Hi etops1 and thanks for asking. The easiest way to explain my feelings at this point is to ask how most people might feel if someone broke into their home and started taking their things. Even threatening their life. Most would react by going straight to the bottom of the triangle; fight or flight.

Right now I'm looking for a fight. A big one. I will defend MY Delta from all her enemies which includes, at the moment, US Airways/AWA.

Anyone who would sit by and watch what they hold dear be raped and pillaged is likely either already dead or lying to themselves.

I don't have a beef with US Airways/AWA or its people. Dick Parker is a business man and has every right to conduct the business of his airline any way he sees fit. I'm here to tell you that his idea of a fit, isn't, doesn't, and won't.

As I stated in a letter to Mr. Parker (merge@usairways.com), he should reconcile his acquisition of US Airways before trying to go for the next round.

Thank you for asking for my opinion,

Don't you get that we have absolutely no say in this? Fight all you want! Till your blue in the face! What are you defending your Delta from, do you know?

Please tell me why this is such a bad fit? I personally couldn't care less if it goes through or not, just curious to hear from what financial/economic standpoint you are basing your assumptions on.

I was in a crew van with 3 DL FA's the other day. I asked them what their reasons were for wearing the button. They said to "keep USAirways out." I then said "What part of the proposed deal do you take issue with?" Their response: "Don't know anything about the deal, we were told to wear these...." Exactly. It's called fear/ intimidation. Plain and simple.

  Nothing like being informed......

Thank you for asking for my opinion,
fair enough my friend. but have you ever thought for a minute that this actually might be good. i understand the pride of the delta employees.i envy it. it's great. but delta is not what it once was. it's not because of the employees. it's because of mismanagemnt. you guys are in play. if we do not enter into a deal with delta then someone else would. and you do not want the likes of american coming in to take over. can i say staple. this wil not happen in this situation. usairways has to much class for that . i have to agree that i am still a little skepticle of all this but i am sure parker thunk it through and spoke to many friends in the doj and places like that before forking out 8billion dollars. please save your fighting energy to get a pay raise. becuase niether you or i have a say in this . we are all in this together delta and usairways employees. look foward to working with you soon. if not see you around the airline campus.

I agree with Etops. And here is a question that was posted on an intenal Q&A and the company's response.

Will the Delta Flight Attendants since they have no union go to the bottom of all flight attendants?
We've committed to a fair and equitable process for employees and specifically have said we won't accept a contract that includes stapling.

I hope this puts at least one fear at ease.

- Incompatible fleets

- Too rapid growth.

These two set the foundation for Pan Am' demise.

- DP hasn't demonstrated that he and his team can manage what he has. In fact, he's shown just the opposite. Your own unions are at each other's throats over the debacle he's made of the AW/US combining. They have all warned him to get things straight in the house he's built before trying another addition. That is good advice; he should take it.
It's no secret that we went through a period of incompetent leadership. It looks like we finally have someone who can make something of the mess his predecessors left and you want us to quietly “lay back and take itâ€￾ for you and DP? I don't think so.

- Incompatible route structures
Too much duplication, not enough complimentary variation. You really believe DP is thinking merger? He's looking at buying Delta at a fire sale, slapping all three companies together, shuffling everything like a deck of cards, and putting at least half up on ebay.

Wrong!
United approached Delta about a merger and was asked to back off, at least until Delta had a chance of making it out of BK on it's own. And they did. American made no overtures at all. Delta spoke its position once and, I guess, that was enough for them. (class) Either of these would be a better fit than US. Another point for United; they approached Delta about a buyout early on. DP wasn't interested in Delta until the changes we've made started proving out.

AW/US approached Delta and was told the same thing United was told. Unlike United, and like any rapist, DP wouldn't take no-thank you for an answer. Instead, his answer is “just lay back and take it because there's nothing you can do about it.â€￾
Nobody has shown the lack of class DP has shown.
DP said himself that this acquisition MUST go through BEFORE Delta comes out of BK so that he can IMPOSE the changes that MUST be made for HIS plan to work.
http://www.usatoday.com/money/biztravel/20..._x.htm?csp=N008
Does that sound like someone who wants to play nice?
Question - When US was down, did US approach AW, or did DP do it all on his own?
Another - It looks like LCC has done well. Have you seen the promised payback for everything you had to give up?

- These boards.

Reading the posts of LCC people, you sound the cheering section at a gang rape. The bar scene in the movie “The Accusedâ€￾ keeps coming to mind.
“Yea, Go for it Douggie! Hey Delta, why are you fighting, there's nothing you can do! Who knows, you might like it! Ha-Ha. Yea Douggie, you're da man!â€￾

> becuase niether you or i have a say in this

Actually, there are many examples of mergers falling through because of a demonstrated lack of support by the employees of the company trying to impose the merger/buy-out.

> please save your fighting energy to get a pay raise.

Did we just stumble on your reason for supporting DP's rape? You want help to get a raise for yourself? Early on, that was the only thing LCC people were interested in, Delta's pay scales. If that's the case, I'll remind you again:
You haven't even received your promised rebound from what you were required to give up.
DP has publicly stated that he MUST have the ability to IMPOSE changes for HIS plan to work. If his changes were anything close to what your unions would agree to, he wouldn't be worried about working with them outside of BK.

Take a class from Eastern Airlines. It wasn't poor leadership, the economy, or any other outside influence that put Eastern under. It was pissed off employees.

Funny, all the union guys that I worked with from WA, said that they were much better off with DL, as WA Managment had been raping that Airline for years....
I've had the same experience. A few disgruntled F/As early on in SLC, but everybody else I had dealings with said they were much better off after the merger.

Also interesting how LCC people keep trying to equate a hostile takeover to a mutually agreed to and equitable merger. WA/DL was a negotiated merger between two compatible companies seeking to create something greater than its separate parts.

I do miss Wally Bird.

Right, which is exactly what would happen with a US/ DL merge. You get over it.
