Cwa Board Clears The Way For Possible Strike

No not "class envy"....reality! I'm just putting this mess into perspective. The pilots agreed to give what they did and can still live a fairly nice life. They have room to breath. The rest have no more room to breath. There is basically nothing left at US for most employees and they ARE planning to do something about it if you get my drift.

Well, you say "Not class envy" but that is exactly what you sound like.. . "They did and can still live a fairly nice life." Well, they (Pilots) have more education, and have a specific skill that they worked hard for. A lot of the other departments have no such requirments. Come on! You must see that.

Think about it....how long is a mortgage? How many years for car payments? How many years of college and how many years to payback loans. Most debt accrued years ago so don't insinuate that the ones in debt are fools. I know very few that have made large purchases over the last three years. A lot have been driving 7-10 year old cars over the last years, afraid to purchase a new or even newer used car because of this predicament. No no one is stupid. Many of the debt was accrued prior to this mess.

Believe me no one takes VTO because they don't need the money. It is for the fact of saving sanity and a nervous breakdown! Someone is going to go over the deep end or "go airline" one of these days.

You need to grow up and have some compassion for your fellow peons and stop defending the inept so called leaders of this operation.

So, let me get this straight. I am just trying to understand your rationale.. . You believe that Usairways "owes" you a living. They owe it to you to maintain your standard of living. So basically, you want to be taken care of by a company. I don't know, maybe you should move to the Netherlands, or maybe Canada, or Sweden. And the part about needing to grow up and have compassion. Being realistic and believing one is responsible for themselves has no bearing on feeling compasionate for your fellow man. I do feel bad for the employees and situation. But again, at some point one has to start taking responsibility for themselves.

Don't speculate on employee's educational background. You have no clue! Because someone has a position that requires no higher education does not mean they do not have it. There are many reasons why US employees work here that do have an education so, do not surmise they are uneducated.

I am not saying pilots should make less money but, the paycuts to each group should have been a percentage according to what each groups' wages are and an amount that would still be acceptable and they could actually live on. Not an across the board cut without management participation. 21% from 200,000 still leaves you will a good bit of money. 21% from 30,000 is going to put you in the "hole".

Taken care of by the company? NO! Everyone works in exchange for a paycheck. That- is -how -the- world- of- business -works. Don't tell me the employees must take responsibilty for their financil problems when it all goes back to management. You know something? The employees are going to start taking responsibility. They are going to stand up to the thieves of this company and possibly shut this place down and move on to bigger and better and all the while feel good about it.

YES...go bobcat!!

The U employee's mind set is hard to fathom for these ones who "have theirs". It’s real easy to sit in judgment when not living the gore.

This is my last attempt. I am not trying to speculate on employees education levels, HOWEVER, most do not have the specific skill level of a pilot, get real. Many in res have liberal arts, degrees etc. MOST do not have a specific skill, or the training to go out and get a job that pays what U use to pay. It has nothing to do with education leve. Come on, I don't see any one with a pilots license, or a MBA, or a degree in law, saying "Oh, i don't know, i think I will go work the ticket counter for awhile, just to give it a go." Or," yeah, i could be a pharmacist but i just think I will go answer the phones for Usairways awhile, just for experience." Anyone who has these specific skills is NOT working for customer service. No offense intended.

So, I guess the question to pose is...If you have a higher education why are you here working for what you deem unthinkable to sustain your lifestyle? Go pursue the dream you had as a younger person...communications? Psych? What is it? Why are you working a counter or an aisle if there are better things out there?

Your former life is irrelevant. Your kids, your mortgage, your car payment are NOW relevant. The pilot group is nothing if not lucky. They have a skill that is still worth something. You maybe do not. Find out!!! Become a Pilot. Do something that is relevant. Halliburton is hiring...and so are the armed forces. Peace.

Got your "drift", bob....Do what YOU feel neccessary, then, move on!!! I think all who works at U agree that management failed!! The damage is done...As to the pilots, why create "class envy"?? As a good "union brother", you should be happy for them....They got what they N E G O T I A T E D!!!!!! GOOD DAY!!!!!

The question is, if you strike and lose your job, can you go somewhere else and even make $13.00 an hr? Unfortunately the answer is probably not. I worked in res and i understand after making $20.00 an hour, unlimited OT, even double time, lots of time off, flexibility, and good benefits, it is hard to accept losing it all. However, it seems a lot of people are willing to cut off their foot to spite the company. They say "I'll just get unemployment" etc etc. Well, the reality is it is pretty tough out there. And THERE ARE NO cushy jobs out there anymore like USAIRWAYS was for many years. There are no 45K jobs out there anymore that require no education, just perserverence and seniority. That is the reality. $13.00-16.00 an hour is not bad, if you want more you should look into going further in your education or getting some type of skill that will warrent a higher salary because unfortunately the hay days of airline pay is pretty much over.

Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!! I know of a few positions that may start at a little less than $13/hr and your increases could double the salary in 5 years. All one needs is knowledge of the English language, a good work ethic, and the ability to pass a substantial background check. These positions have better benefits, more vacation, tuition reimbursement, and more holidays than U. All people need to do is LOOK.

Youngblood is right..there are LOTS of jobs out there. However, they will not come knocking on your door, begging you to come to them. You go out and look and sell yourself. That is what I have done and I had 3 choices that were offered me. I am leaving in Feb and have another job already lined up at a higher salary than I was making before the last round of cuts and with more benefits. If you sell yourself short, chances are that's what type of work you'll find. But USAir is not the end of life as we all know it. There are MUCH BETTER opportunites. Open your eyes and set a goal, and you'll find it's a big world with LOTS of opportunities. Dont stick around at this nickle and dime company. The exec's are going to make sure they get their compensation and parachutes at the expense of labor. It's hard to see the hateful, anti-labor state of affairs here, until you look outside and see other companies and how they respect and treat their employees. Good luck to all!

Casino workers in Vegas are extremely well paid. There is also union representation. A lot of the jobs require a high school diploma.
