Yes, I can name one and a few others. One such position is for USIS as a reviewer. You can be hired with a high school education, strong language skills, and as I said before the ability to pass a very thorough background check. It starts at $24,000 a year but you get 3% to 7% raises every six months according to how well you do on your reviews. Thus, one can virtually double their salary within 7 years. Doesn't sound bad to me. They also offer positions as investigation assistants. Want another? Comcast customer service. Can start at $10 - $11 and end up being paid $20+ an hour with a GED. Yet another? Fed-ex customer service. $11/hr to start and increases with room to advance. (not sure of top out) I can name some more. Want any? Personally, I am currently interviewing for a position that requires a BA. I am on to the third step in the processs.

The paycuts would be one thing if employees knew management had done their best on non-labor cuts and revenue enhancement.

They have not.

The PIT/PHL decision should have been made in 1990, not 2004.

Business Select? High Ground? MetroJet?

They have, from Schofield to present, ALWAYS been focused on labor cuts. Sometimes in increments, sometimes of whole cloth.

OK, that was then, this is now.

I suggested, prior to BKII, that the company offer a parity concept, to include all benefits and wages, with our current competitors - WN, JB, etc., as well as DL and AA. And as the last parity excercise, weighted to the percentage of U's exposure to each competitor.

I predicted then, this would never come to pass, and for two reasons.

The Palace does not want mirror images costs of the competition, for then, even the WSJ could see where U's failure lies.

And, the Palace is after bigger game - breaking labor.

Youngblood, you misunderstood my response, if you read about two posts up, before you replied about the fed ex jobs etc, someone put that casino workers in LAS got payed well. That was the post that I replied, nevermind to, not yours. I appreciate your direct response and examples you gave! :)

You are exactly correct. The ONLY reason Jerry Glass was brought in was to break the labor/union contracts. He is a highly paid expert at this. He is not here to make better labor relations. I would like to see one labor group that has the stipulation that he be immediately fired and his contract voided upon acceptance of any TA.

ITRADE,

You guys wearing ties are having a perspective problem.

You all can afford to take paycuts and still pay for your basic needs. A paycut for you means going out to eat a little less often or maybe buying the top end Toyota instead of the Lexus. You can give a little if it means keeping your gravy train.

The folks at U that are in favor of a strike are not on a gravy train. They have been cutting back their own personal expenses for over a decade while execs continue to hammer away at their pay. The folks at U have reached a limit. They are no longer willing to give to keep their job. What is left to give? The happy meal on Fridays with the wife?

Like I said, you have a perspective problem. Put yourself in their shoes. They are no longer worried about saving the company. They are worried about paying the electric bill and putting wonderbread in their kids lunch box. When someone demands you accept a pay rate that won't cover your basic needs then you have to say "no, come what may."
