Can anyone defend the IAM crossing the mechanic's picket line at Northwest? This hurts all of the aircraft mechanics in the U.S. by doing this. Why should Airway's mechanics vote for the IAM when the IAM has drawn fellow mechanic's blood and is hurting the careers of all mechanics?

IAM = SCAB Union :down:

(Moderators please leave on this board since it is pertains to this upcoming election.)

Also Champion Air flew flights for NWA during the strike and the ibt represents Champion's Flight Attendants and Dispatchers.

No, cant defend it. It is undefendable.

But, as pointed out above, unions violate unions.

It has become "an every union is on their own" kind of society.

Did AFA or ALPA support our Mechanics? If memory serves me, they DID NOT.

Was ALPA prepated to support AFA? I dont think so.
Nor would AFA support ALPA.

And NONE of the above would support TWU

The AFA did support the IAM and the company went to court to force the AFA Members to work.

Well since Amfa raided the IAM at NWA, do you expect them to support them?

Amfa was out maneuvered by NWA and lost bad, they don't even have a strike fund to support their members and went on the web begging for money to be sent in via paypal.

700,

YES...YES...YES I fully expect them not to be a SCAB union and not cross the line.

So what you are saying is the membership chose to switch unions after a lengthy amount of time in dealing with the IAM and since they went on strike now the IAM has to try to even the score and SCAB over mechanic's picket lines. There is no defense of this.

What about the ibt represented Champion Air who flew flights for NWA due to the AMFA Strike?

Gee, kinda convient that you ignore that fact.

Oh no!!  What could the future hold if ( ;) ) the vote takes place and there is a change in representation (IBT)????

Bottom line is they crossed a picket line when it was written in their contract that they were not required too!!!

Have other groups done it Yes!! Do I think it was correct...No. I still remember all the talk at U calling the Pilots scabs for crossing the picket lines back in 92. Back then it would have been illegal on the pilots part, with regards to NWA it was legal!! I recall the words Union officials assiciated with them. What is the difference between the two scenarios?

None as I see it!! The IAM crossed when they should not have!! They scabbed in their own way

Question 700, does it make it right just because another group crosses? Solidarity, the word unions love to preach right down the toilet!!!!

I don't believe crossing a picket line and doing your own job is considered scabbing. Scabbing would be crossing a picket line and then doing the job of those that are on strike, which certainly took place at NWA with the mechanic strike.

The pilots or f/a's or any other groups at U did not scab during the strike in 92 unless they turned wrenches, loaded bags, pushed back planes, DUMPED LAVS, etc. To say otherwise is foolish. Yes 700, some of those people did pick up trash on planes during that time, which was wrong, but that didn't affect the outcome of the strike.

Lets see has any of you read the IAM ESE/NWA CBA?

The language to perform pushbacks and ancillary duties were all ready in the scope language and the ramp performed it at more stations then then mtc.

Upon amfa withdrawing its services nwa imposed a new cba on mtc and those duties were removed from the scope.

So how is it scabbing when the scope language of the ramp all ready contained the pushback and ancillary duties?

These unions are not representing the working class, they are only representing their own "business plan [Dues]". It's all about the ca$h with them.
