good for the iam 142 im glad theyre doing that may be it will help time will tell now if the 141 can do that may be that would help signal the company that enough is enough and its time to get a decent good contract and its high flying time the company sits on their hineys and actually negogiate something better than what we and the mechanics currently have good luck to all iam 141 n 142

Sadly, it has been proven time and time again that those in the Hubs & large stations will throw those in the outstations under the bus with very little thought of doing so. To this day I have spoken to people that took part in a contract vote that enabled more outsourcing, and they are completely clueless about the ramifications of it. If it didn't directly affect them, they didn't pay any attention to it. After all that has taken place over the years with outsourcing, there are still members today that would throw others under the bus for a raise in pay.
Freedom is not alone, there are many others that think the same way, they just have more sense than to come on a public forum and post it. The bottom line is money, and the company knows that the given majority will take the bait here at US. I'm willing to bet that the latest contract that was rejected at UA, would have passed at US with flying colors.

Wings not that matters now but I for one voted NO for all these pos contracts.

I don't think you are correct at all and I think you are painting that hub thing with a pretty wide brush. The last TA failed here and in PHL by wide margins roughly 675 to 70 I believe it was here. IYou are correct in saying that hubs do control the vote for the most part. It's simple mathe bro ,that is were the numbers are. The is not the presidential election where there is an electoral college
Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was referring to the 2005 CBA which opened the flood gates on outsourcing. By the time the 2008 vote took place, there wasn't much left except for a few out west that were pushed off as safe for a few extra years. The hub votes in 2008 had more to do with wages etc than outsourcing. Ask your coworkers if they care about the scope language about small stations. Get some outsourced work back in house due to improved scope, then we will be talking progress.

Wings,
Completely agree! The IAM, the District and the membership need to focus more on protecting the work and less on language that tries to accomodate those whos' work has been eliminated in their station. Historically, when a station's Fleet Service work is outsourced, most of those affected choose to furlough rather than commute or relocate. End result: A reduction of represented jobs, which in turn and if done frequently enough, leads to a reduction in leverage at the table. An issue that eventually has an adverse on those members who remain. This trend must be reversed. No one will be immuned if a change in course is not realized. The time is now.

TAKE a look at the iam mechanics page and see what al h put in im not too impressed with it just bec the pilots n f/as did for their mou but it looks like it could be a food for thought may be that is what a h will say to the iam 141 as our team negogiates this week in dc

I realize that, but I think that both of us know who was behind the lost stations vs catering. A deal made by Hub people...Nuf said.

Yes it was, catering or the small stations and that was pushed for by the PHL members of the Fleet NC.

And the sad thing was the company was going to absorb the catering jobs into the ramp.

EVEN if they had done that would that had been a cost savings thing bec if i recall correctly they needed to save some millions or billions a yr at that time with new labor accords

robbed,
I believe each union was given a target number regarding cost savings. The cost savings target number for Fleet, by conceding catering in the hubs, with the caveat the jobs would have been absorbed by the ramp, would not have provided anywhere near the cost savings of language agreeing to outsourcing many outline stations. Outsourcing our work. I realize focusing on the past gives us a better understanding of how we have arrived in our current state of affairs... but again I will ask... what significance does this have regarding our road ahead? One cannot change or alter past events. The focus should be on what we may be able to change in our future.

iorgac while now there is no signifiances per the moment i think that this is something i would truly hope (and i have faith in this team) that may be they will enhance the scope/language along the same lines you mention in a post on a few pages back.. i dont dwell on the past the past is the past and we can never change that... but i strongly believe that we can actually learn from things like that to get a heck of a better contract.... on scope language the entire thing bro...

Learn from the past. Realize you cannot change it. Do not dwell on it for you may miss the opportunities of the future. IMO... everyone is familiar with our past mistakes made by both the union leadership and the membership. Let's learn from it and move on.
