As for the "Not my Kid" bull feces I offer you this. If the example became law you'd be in the same boat as the rest of us. Just for a different reason. Public Schools are ideological indoctrination camp designed to produce the progressive version of the Hitler Jungen.
 
Sorry but I'd rather have a child capable of critical thinking who is a Master Marksman rather then a Progressive jellyfish who goes with the flow like I good little brainwashed thug of the state.

Not sure if it's for life however there is a requirement for regular service. With Liberty comes responsibility and accountability. 
 
I just think if you're going to have a "Gun Culture" as Liberals call it, then in order to help prevent the use of deadly force, reduce accidents and the like the entire population needs to be armed and trained. 
 
The added benefits of a likely severe drop in crime, the elimination of what amounts to a black market for guns alone would be reason to arm the population. Arming and training the citizens would keep the Federal Government at a much more respectful distance.

I think that the idea of a population needing to be armed to protect it self is a clear indication that the society has failed, at least on some level.
