Another School Massacre

It's an opinion, Glenn. Do I need to cite an opinion?...

Go look at this list if you must insist on citations. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_school_shootings_in_the_United_States#2010s

Weed out the shootings performed by those over the age of 20, since this is supposed to be school shootings, and not just the unstable with firearms.

With that set of criteria, the shootings are 27:13 (2:1) primarily in Blue States or cities like Houston, which are known to vote Blue.

Regardless if suicides , gang related, and drug crimes stay in or out of the equation, the ratio stays at about 2:1.

The only thing that changed the ratio was looking closer at the location of the shootings vs. just the state or city. The shooting in Georgia took place at an inner city school in Atlanta, which I'd presume votes more blue than red; same thing for the shootings in Memphis and in Ohio (that corner of the state is very blue collar and voted for Obama).

So yes, I call that a pattern...

Fair enough. It sucks no matter who is doing it.

No argument, but that's why I keep coming back to the lack of values.

You don't typically find this type of action happening in a place like Utah, Nebraska or Wyoming, where the family members are more likely to be in tune with what's going on with each other, and more likely to have been church goers.

I think looking at a list of states and correlating political persuasion is a big stretch. The overall political numbers are fairly even nation wide with only a small change to make a majority in one city or another.

I think this is annover simplification as well. There are differences in population density, economy, pace of life, ethnic variety and a host of other things. Then there is the fact that a good number of priests have been abusing children under the protection of the largest chur h in the world.

Top 10 schools according to Education Weekly.

1. Massachusetts (blue based on 2012 Presidential elections)
2. Maryland (blue)
3. New Jersey (blue)
4. New Hampshire (blue)
5. Vermont (blue)
6. Minnesota (blue)
7. Florida (blue)
8. Pennsylvanian (blue)
9. Washington St (blue)
10. Colorado (blue)
10. Virginia  (blue)

Fl, MN and NJ are the only states that have republican governors.

I'm so glad you posted yet something else totally irrelevant to the discussion, Tree...

So, what does that have to do with gun violence taking place at middle and high schools?...

You make an implication that politics and the violence are associated with nothing to back it up. I mention that there are a lot of other issues that may have an influence on what happened. I know you don't like it but that is not my problem.

Same thing your post linking violence to political affiliation. Nothing.

The fact remains that in flyover country, there's been fewer school shootings, and the data I presented holds that premise up.

You want to call it a matter of urban vs. rural mindset? Go for it.

Unfortunately, that mindset also manifests itself in how people vote. Cities tend to vote quite blue, with very few exceptions. So do athiests, apparently.

People who have a faith-based set of core values aren't about to go mow down a classroom. The recognition of judgement in an afterlife tends to make that less appealing.

Go ahead and point to the exceptions like priests who turned into predators, but they're by and far the exception when it comes to mortal sins...

Anyone can go on a topic on Wiki and change it.

But if they source it in the footnotes...that makes it wrong?

Like I said......someone here is writing a doctoral thesis on the insanity of posting on the water cooler?
