On March 18th 1927 a school board member aged 55 blew up the school with himself and 58 other inside. So much for gun control.

Every school should have a certain amount of armed teachers trained and qualified in addition to on scene law enforcement. It would be a start.
More armed citizens would be a second.....

I'm not in favor of armed teachers or armed guards in school just yet.

The discussion to me at least is balancing Personal Liberty with the public good. What I picked up on early on as the story broke is that both students and staff were trained on what to do should these types of event occur. No one is talking about how much worse this thing could have bee. The one Teacher who gave her life to protect the kids she had carefully hidden likely saved 20 people. IMO the solution lies in a quote by Thomas Jefferson, "The price of freedom is eternal vigilence".

The laws need to be rethought as the concept of a "gun free school zone" does not seem to work very well. One of my wise ass friends made a comment that at first pissed me off then I thought about it. "You don't see the wacko's shooting up police stations do you" Know why? Because that's where the guns are"

I don't want to anyone die, not even the mentally ill eho perpetrate these events. I also don't want to see us lose anymore of our Liberty.

The 1st step is to have each school board and the police departments come up with more and better training and different response protocols. 2nd, we involve mental health professionals to come up with a way to identify potential threats. You have to be careful here as you don't want to violate anyone's civil liberties. Once identified the next step is to get them into the system. Either Mental Health or Criminal Justice so we can observe them.

The idea is to throw up enough barriers that the person will give up and perhaps just kill themselves. Confiscating my gun because of Adam Lanza's actions is dilly and will accomplish NOTHING>

Look down that list of recent killings and they all have one common denominator. Everyone around the perp knew he was a threat but nothing was done about it.
If teachers were armed along with a professional security force would be a greater deterrent than exists now.

I heard this morning the clown at the batman movie just happened to pick one of the only theatres where concealed personal carry was forbidden. It appears other theatres in that locale permit legal carry.

That is as big a part of issue as gun control. It is next to impossible to involuntarily commit anyone- not that there are places to commit them to.

My son's high school, which is a nice town, has a resource officer every day, sometimes two, a resource officer is a police officer assigned to the school.

The school doesnt have problems, its just a town and school district policy.
