Not condoning anyone's comments but you guys have no idea what it's like having friends from A&P school at other airlines making so much more than AA/US AMTs...

NOW I SEE THE HARD CORE RESPONSIBILITY'S. SO THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE DOING WHEN THE FLIGHT HAS TO SIT ON THE RAMP FOR 10 MIN OR LONGER WAITING ON THE RAMP TO GUIDE THEM IN.
RESPONSIBILITY SHOULD GO HAND AND HAND WITH THE PAY FOR THE JOB ONE DOES IE. YOU DON'T PAY THE PAPERBOY WHAT YOU PAY THE PLUMBER JUST BECAUSE THEY BOTH COME TO YOUR HOUSE.
Don't get me wrong not looking down on any one for what they do, But each of us go and get the training we need to do our jobs and some have a lot more on going training , responsibility and accountability for what they do than others and the pay should reflect this.
The unions do not want a aircraft mechanic listed as skilled labor they loose a barging chip at the tables to raise pay for other groups and this cuts into their % of DUES.
This IAM / TWU  is no more than a way to share the dues NOT for what they can do for us as this last contract shows.
Did I ever tell you about the time I was unhooking a tow bar from an MD-80 while at TUL (I was laid off from TULE at the time) and notice a large piece of the left front wheel missing.  I held the pilot up while management got a mechanic to look at the wheel. It was decided it was too dangerous to fly with a big chunk of metal missing from the wheel and management canceled the flight and sent the aircraft over to TULE to be examined and repaired.

We all have our duties to make sure the flight of American Airlines passengers are safe.

Glad that you found the bad wheel. not sure if you are a mech or ramp. looks like the pilot missed it on his walk around and the guy who hooked up the tow bar missed it too. i have had ramp find things on their pre-push walk around also. Sometimes i have to laugh at the thingamabob is hanging down as he has no clue what he is looking at but as i said glad you took the time to be responsible and make the hard core decision to hold the flight for a inspection of the wheel by a AMT.
The point i was trying to make is the UNIONS have used the AMT's skills and grouped others into our craft and class as in a mechanic is a mechanic or related is a mechanic and it has held our pay down because the Company's don't want to pay high wages to a guy who dumps lavs or stocks parts on a shelf. I remember when AMT did push backs and dumped the lavs but the unions changed that. And they don't want to change us from unskilled to skilled at that point we become no good to then as a negotiations chip in contracts.

Travis what I am guessing you are saying is that you would prefer not to have any other units outside of your class and craft of licensed mechanics be a part of your negotiations or your representation? Does that also include OH?

If you are saying that then I have to commend you for your honesty.

^^^^ Bad guess.

OVERHAUL is part of the AMT department and fellow AMT's through the system. That is like saying lets remove the instructors as well. The TWU for years has divided overhaul from line. The TWU always made it look like the line guys hate the overhaul guys and fed them a line of crap every time negotiations came around.  Believe me it is far from the truth.

I ASKED Travis what he thought about OH. Not whether or not you would be required to represent them. The question basically is do you LIKE representing everyone you currently do under the umbrella? No need to twist my meaning.

Forget OH then. What about everyone else? Travis basically said that everyone else is riding your coattails. Let's hear what people have to say about that?
