Of course. And if you were in the shoes of the rest of this nation's employed, what you would choose to do under those conditions is quit. Not shut the employer down. Quit. But what I keep reading here is something sounding much like a spiteful desire to "quit" by shutting the company down.
The very premise of the Free Market, Capitalist system is that there is a constant skirmish between supply and demand.
So far the company has had its way with demand, demand. And labor has obliged with supply, supply.
The reason labor has supplied, is that laborers saw the bad economy and a nation in crisis, and decided that they were willing to sacrifice for the nations greater good, but this period has ended.
A laborer supplies labor to the market place. Some of us bring degreed, and or licensed skills to the market place. The amount of liability or discomfort a job has assigned to it, causes the market to place a value on it according to the willingness of the laborer to accept risk or discomfort for cash.
The mechanics and other groups have bottomed out on the risk and discomfort for cash scale. We are now deciding that we will not risk, or discomfort, our lives for any less than what we currently earn now.
Those who don't have the stomach for this skirmish are advised to quit and get a new job now! Others of us are prepared and honored to be the chosen players at this free market crossroad.
Any company who steals from their employees, customers, and stockholders must by necessity, be weeded out from the marketplace. And unless the leadership of US Airways turns around and RUNs this company efficiently, "weeded out" is indeed its' fate.
