I don't want into your "frey" and yes, I do live by many F/A's and so I have seen the abuse first hand be it pilots, F/A or any other union group member. I won't go there, but they live very well and their sons and daughters still will be able to participate in their normal activities even with their paycuts. They may not be able to do it all, all the time, but life is all about choices. Learning early in life prepares you for the difficult choices later. Obviously, there are U employees that need to make a decision regarding their direction. I personally don't feel you speak for the majority, (all unions) from what I hear on a day to day basis and I don't know why you and others continually attack when someone posts an opposing opinion. Regards.

I think the reason ALPA is onceagain pushing the concessions is that they own almost 20% of the stock. That equates to about 16,500 shares per pilot. If the stock price goes back to just $7.00 then each alpa member could receive over 1 million dollars for their shares.

ktflyhome, I'm blushing! My one weakness in life is that I have always been for the underdog in a fight. No matter what the arena be it sports, business or life in general. Anyway, I'm wishing you and Most of the good folks at USAIR the best! Savy

Plane Jane,

From my perch on the "inside"....you are dead wrong with your assessment of the conditions of the f/as.

I suspect, if f/as are living the life you cite....they are majorily running themselves into major debt in their attempt to maintain a "lifestyle" that is just not realistic.

Of course. And if you were in the shoes of the rest of this nation's employed, what you would choose to do under those conditions is quit. Not shut the employer down. Quit. But what I keep reading here is something sounding much like a spiteful desire to "quit" by shutting the company down.
The very premise of the Free Market, Capitalist system is that there is a constant skirmish between supply and demand.

So far the company has had its way with demand, demand. And labor has obliged with supply, supply.

The reason labor has supplied, is that laborers saw the bad economy and a nation in crisis, and decided that they were willing to sacrifice for the nations greater good, but this period has ended.

A laborer supplies labor to the market place. Some of us bring degreed, and or licensed skills to the market place. The amount of liability or discomfort a job has assigned to it, causes the market to place a value on it according to the willingness of the laborer to accept risk or discomfort for cash.

The mechanics and other groups have bottomed out on the risk and discomfort for cash scale. We are now deciding that we will not risk, or discomfort, our lives for any less than what we currently earn now.

Those who don't have the stomach for this skirmish are advised to quit and get a new job now! Others of us are prepared and honored to be the chosen players at this free market crossroad.

Any company who steals from their employees, customers, and stockholders must by necessity, be weeded out from the marketplace. And unless the leadership of US Airways turns around and RUNs this company efficiently, "weeded out" is indeed its' fate.

cltiam,

For the record, each pilot now has approximately 1000 shares (assuming they had shares withheld for income taxes) with another like amount coming (half in vesting 2 and half in vesting 3).

Admittedly a lot more than most other employees, but nowhere like 16,000 shares.

Hey, PlaneJane: Wanna go shopping at Family Dollar???? I bought my summer wardrobe there. ;)
Sorry, I'm tired but I do shop at Family Dollar, again a choice I make. If that is how you live within your means - good for you! Should I be embarrassed? I was brought up to respect, no matter where one has to shop for clothes. Remember - clothes don't make the person........

Explain that to the children of the now unemployed airline workers who won't be able to go to dance class, soccer touraments, or the college they had hoped for. I'm sure the children will understand your point of winning at all cost. I live around a lot of U employees and I believe when push comes to shove, all this grand standing will deminish. Even with a paycut, they know damn well, they are still much better off with the paycut. Cost of Blue Cross and Blue Shield per month for a family of 4 - $2,400. That's your 80/20 plan. No dental, no frills. Didn't Continental go twice into BK? Their employees stock zeroed - twice! And aren't they being asked to give again? So Seigel screwed up on the first paycuts and BK - so shut the company down? That's logical."

USA320Pilot comments: I believe your point is shared by the majority of the employees.

USA320Pilot
USA320Pilot, dude you better get used to being in the right seat. What crunching the company numbers it looks like at least 500 pilot furloughs. Do you get high off this or what? This isn't the military so stop treating everyone like a bunch of troops that need to follow the latest doom and gloom scenerio. I think the majority of employees have absolutely, 100% had enough. To hell with it, full pay to the last day!

Well, you are working for the right airline. Look at the raggy uniforms makes the Salvation Army guys look like guards at Buckingham Palace.
