AA fires mechanics for sleeping on duty

Your group gets caught doing a no no and you can not stand it. AA needs to fire every slacker that they have on the payroll. By doing so, they may not have to lay off anyone come November.

Doesnt matter to me if they sleep or not. Now about those pilots sleeping in the cockpit. .......

You could sweep the floor or the ramp, or wash ground equipment. There is always something to do.

 this is a quote from swdrivers first post on this site (troll driver more likely!)

"You airline workers had it real good in the 70's, 80's and 90's. You do not need a raise. You need to give about 35% back to your companies. "

this "tool" doesn't work for any airline, just stirring the pot like all his/hers/shims posts.

Well I'm off to check the voltage on a vortex generator, then replace a muffler actuator bearing. Then I'm going to find a place to sleep, so I can be alert for the next round "dis the AMT"

I love the term the Brits use ..... (deleted by moderator) !!

Hey moderator how come the page is shorter ???????

You're kdding right?

You cannot see the increase in advertising taking up the lost space?

Congratulations the website now has more income due to our diligent efforts to participate.

Just look at the brag used to sell the space in the upper right.

30 Million Hits per Month
500+ Message Post per Day.

Do you feel taken advantage of?

Bad news though, the ads have slowed the server ability to post/edit postings considerably.

Actually, I think it sucks now. (Prolly Banned for a few days for that comment)

I see the extra adds but dont like the shorter page.

I dont feel taken advantage of. I can honestly say in the five years I have been on this board I have yet to click on an advrtisement link.

I would like to thank the people who do it keeps the sight running and is one of the best forms of communication we have.

IMHO

I guess we can allways go to the twu web site for up to date info

Amaing how swdriver ignores the pilots sleeping cockpit issue...silence truly is golden..

Wasnt there an incident about 6 months ago where an aircraft overshot the airport by about 100 miles as it turned out both fell asleep at the wheel.
I wish I could do that on my way home fromm work.

And what about all the other pilots on flights taking turns sleeping and who are never caught?
If mechanics are fired for sleeping on the job and violating their work rules, then the same should apply to pilots that do the same.

That was GO! Airlines (Mesa) from Honolulu. They were flying the 214 miles from HNL to Hilo I believe and overshot Hilo by 15 miles at 21,000 feet. The tower was able to get through to them finally by yelling loudly into the mike and they finally responded.

It was believed that they fell asleep but I don't think it was ever proven, it would be hard to prove but it seems plausible. There is a small piece about it in the latest issue of Reader's Digest, as well as some quite telling information from pilots and others in the business. RD did a well rounded piece, though they could have delved deeper, they are after all, a digest.

You can get a bit of the Reader's Digest article at that link called The 411 of Flight Delays.

Have a great weekend everybody!

How about ignoring SWdrivers attempt to make this a divide and conquer issue of mechanics vs pilots. I have no problem with pilots napping during cruise (preferably one at a time) so they can be more alert when it really counts.

Of all the times I've flown in the cockpit I've never seen where pilots would have the opportunity to both fall asleep since the ATC is usually calling out altitude or heading changes and informing the crew of any traffic they might have flying in their direction.

A ten mile overshot could just as easily have been from a distraction when you figure 10 miles is only around 15 seconds. I cant tell you how many times I've overshot my exit on the parkway when I used to work nights.

The managers need to get out on the floor of the hangar and make sure that each and every mech. is putting forth an effort to work on the planes until their shift is done., very simple.
Fine, and lets have a QA manager, safety committeee member and FAA inspector there right along side of them. I'll finally make six figures with all the OT!!
