7 day coverage nonsense

IMHO, 7 day coverage is coming to an overhaul base near you. It`s pretty much a given that is what we will evolve into. Most guys I talk to understand it, don`t like it but understand. I can only speak for those I work with at AFW, but our concern is the inability to use our senority. Set a 24/7 schedule and let us bid our shifts/days off. The overriding mentality however of being "FAIR" is a show stopper. Those of us that are senior have done our time on undesirable shifts/days off. Bring on the 24/7 and bring the BID with it !
I think we all know 7 day coverage is coming, but until we get a fair contract I think we should stay status quo.

Yes, they carry their company blackberry,,,,,But in all my years here, I have never seen ONE SUPERVISOR, SHIFT MANAGER OR MANAGER in on ANY HOLIDAY OR WEEKEND WHERE THEY DID NOT WORK A DEAL OUT WITH ANOTHER SUPERVISOR OR SHIFT MANAGER to be off in exchange for a different day.

How about this Duke, give me a blackberry and I'll stay home weekends and holidays unless needed for full pay

I work a double on Christmas to get Thanksgiving off, we all have our own deals. I'm on your side, i think every dept should have someone working 24/7. this is a 24/7 operation.

Interesting...Another example of how things differ station to station....We are not allowed to work a CS on a holiday! Let alone to get another holiday off with no reference to seniority.

<_< ------ Too bad you can't send the Mods to MCI!------- I'm sure they wouldn't have minded the 7 day coverage! 😉

Give it Up. TWA AND MCIE are past history. I don't mind 7-day coverage but we should get something for it and not give up more concessions for it.[TULE]

Maybe things are different over in the hangar, but at the terminal, we had (have) an airline to run seven days a week. And that required supervisors and MOD's each day of the week. The only time we didn't have a supervisor on site was the time between the last departure and the first departure.

I had a five day line to work with days off just like the FSC's and agents did. I typically bid on Monday/Tuesday off (far better to have the cleaners and bank open on both your days off, and much easier to nonrev...), so the only holidays I got off were those that fell on a Monday or Tuesday.

When you start dealing with GM's and MD's, there's no such thing as days off. There are just days away from the airport. When "stuff" happens, and Del Valle or someone else is on the phone demanding answers, you don't have the luxury of letting it go to voicemail if you expect to keep your job.

<_< ------ Yea! Your right ! "Past history"!------ But you know something! I can't remmber when MCI, TWA's overhaul base, "didn't" have 7-day coverage! But like you said, that's "past history!

So all they do is pick up their company Blackberry, yell at their subordinates and demand answers all without leaving their BBQ? Their thanksgiving Dinner? Sunday brunch with the family?
Not bad!

<_< ------ One man's opinion, O.K.!----- I know it would be nice to have week-ends off, and only work days, with holidays with your families, but, sometimes life's not like that! You hired in as an AMT at a major Airline. Working odd hours, and having days off in the middle of the week are a part of your job! You know that going into it! Besides, a 24/7 operation needs more heads! And God knows, what this Country needs right now are more jobs!-------If you don't like those hours of work, or days off, that's what Seniority is all about, bid the ones you do!

I wonder where they're going to get the people. I was told many years ago that a properly run 7 day coverage line requires 20% more people.

I think the result there would be less overtime.

<_< ------- I wonder how 787nightmare would feel about that? 😉

🙂 .......hey...so long as I'm not asked to cross a picket line and it's a reasonable offer(my fear), I'm coming home to TULE!
But I'm not holding my breath for a decent deal for new hires. That's going to be one of the areas that's going to get scrapped in exchange for
better wages, benes for the "A scale" guys. I know that going in...in a way, I guess I don't blame them. Those that would stand up for future new hires-are...well... they have my deepest respect and gratitude.

Btw, FWIW, Boe runs a 5 day work week up here. Couldn't believe it.
Of course, you can wk practically every weeknd around here. And many do...

Sure we knew that going into this, but we also knew that we earned around 40% more (in real terms) and had better benifits.

Tulsa does have 7 day coverage as far as I know but its limited, the Tulsa line certainly does. A lot of people agreed to relocate to Tulsa, AFWand probably MCIE as well not only for the lower costs but also the increased likelyhood of working when the sun shines and being home on the weekends and Holidays.

What is funny is they are now telling us it will be rotating days off with no increase in head count? How does this make any sense. Now we will be short someone everyday as someone will always be off.
