2015 AMT Discussion

Looks like more work being farmed out. 777-300 MBV in BFM. I guess HAECO could not keep up.

Unconfirmed rumor, but I've heard that we are pulling out of HAECO.

From Local 514 president Dale Danker:
Letter from the President
I have been getting many questions from members, I would like to address them.
Question:
When are we going to start negotiating with American Airlines?
Answer:
That answer is unknown at this time.
However,
The work to reconcile all the contracts has been accomplished and that information is in the hands of the International TWU/IAM Associations leadership. I will travel to Washington D.C. on November 10th to have a meeting with President Harry Lombardo to discuss Negotiations. This meeting will be attended by all American Airlines, TWU Local Presidents. I will report back to the membership the outcome of those discussions at the November 16th Joint Membership meeting.
Question:
What are we asking for?
Answer:
More of everything that is good and less of those things that were forced on us through bankruptcy.
We sent out surveys to all title groups. The results of that information was taken by myself to all 6 meetings of the Association reconciliations.
It is my belief as your voice on this team that we do not want to hand over the play book to our opponents.
So I get asked What are we asking for? Simply put, we are asking for everything and then some. I just want you to know that it is not an appropriate negotiation technique to advertise everything that is in our proposals. I know what you want and I am fighting to get it.
Question:
Where are we at with the prefunding match for retiree medical?
Answer:
Currently our International ATD Reps. are waiting to hear the final decision on this very issue that the APFA took to arbitration. It would be prudent to know the outcome of that case prior to our arbitration in this matter. On the APFA website they expect the arbitrators final decision to be made by the end of December 2015. (Reference)
Question:
We hear that there are leadership changes at the ATD?
Answer:
I received a phone call on Monday November 2nd, from AA system Coordinator David Virella. He informed me that he is retiring November 28th. Also the TWU LTD and STD insurance administrator position held by Cara Steelman has been taken over by Union Benefits Planner. There will be a new coordinator but at this time it has not been determined who that will be.
Is the ATD Director Garry Drummond retiring?
I do not have any official announcement to date.
All Together with One Voice,
Dale
Basically In a nutshell.
Stop asking questions about the process you will see what we negotiated for when it's time to vote!

some of your peers on here are completely happy about that. Just make sure they get theirs and AA can outsource as much as they want (or even better, AA will "be nice" and keep doing so much work in-house)

probably not the only ones. Rumor has it some of Delta's work will be leaving too.

Labor costs in China are getting to the point that it isn't worth it to ferry planes half way around the world plus deal with all the supply chain issues that come with it (and costs)
More and more work will be leaving Asia and coming to MROs in the US who pay alright (obviously not UPS pay) and treat their workers like dirty. (and questionable safety)

Historically every Local 514 President that has negotiated for our contracts have campaigned on positive aspects for the membership as a whole. But in the end they roll over and yield to whatever the company needs or wants. I would feel lucky if everything stayed the same, but I do want what they are promising, at least Delta or United wages.
So just to be clear.  You're ok with 1/2 sick pay, no longevity, 5 holidays, 5 sick days per year, 5 weeks of vacation?  Because if that is what you are saying I hope you are a very huge minority.

I never said I was ok with any of the items you listed. You are assuming, I said historically and I have like many others have had to live under similar conditions when compared to our peers at other airlines, for many years. I said I would feel lucky to get only their wages. Traditional TWU negotiations produce a broad range of results for all Title Groups. This why the mechanics have tried  to gain separate negotiations and or replace the TWU. As you have noticed the mechanic separate negotiations disappeared with the development of the ASSociation, are you ok with that?

OK you lost me.  I guess I assumed you were ok with all that stuff since you said you would be happy with everything staying the same (as in status quo on all items) as long as there was a raise.  I think it's pretty clear what I think of the association since I was trying to replace the TWU.  There will be two positions open in the TWU ATD soon.  Virilla and Drummond.  I am predicting that Sean Doyle will be the new ATD director and Lombardo will appoint two more fleet service to the two open positions.  When he does that I hope all the AMTs who wouldn't sign cards realize they have been had by the TWU and stop drinking the Koolaid.  Of course it's probably too late now.

dont think Sean Doyle will survive the cut either.only problem is that the international owns the contract and when the atd is wiped out they will have to be replaced BEFORE we get to start negotiations so there goes another 6 months down the tube before we even start.so we are screwed AGAIN because we cant get our heads out of our ass. what a cluster f*ck company making record profits and RECORD BONUSES for management and we are to fuc*king stupid to do anything

Sadly you are correct.

I am predicting that some of the compensation meant for the mechanics will find it's way to other parts of the TWU and IAM.

DL -3% because Brother, a loaf of bread cost the same for everyone.

Maybe that clears things up.....

Buck,
I don't think comp will be moved around. I bet the new management pushes more AMT jobs to outside vendors. The only engine tooling for any growth fleets to be had at AA is for the CFMs. Has anyone heard about overhaul training and tooling for the GEnx, GE90, V2500? The Trent and RB211 are heading outside due to the TAESL closure. Most engine overhaul was in-house now not so much. We will see our raises but there will be fewer here receiving the money. Can't wait to see the proposal.

I don't know anything about the training and tooling.

American has always had a budget for labor in negotiations. By moving what was mechanic items to outside vendors, is another way of readjusting the available money in this case either higher compensation to the existing mechanics or to other work groups or neither.

Although more a/c mx will likely be outsourced, no one should be naive enough to believe that ONLY a/c mx will be outsourced.

The JT8 after test shop has completed 2 V2500 QEC kit installs, they have one set of work legs and lifting fixtures( $40K)
with two more sets on the way. The third engine QEC kit just arrived & the third & fourth spare engines will arrive after
the 1st of the year. I know that is not much but I don't see any big tooling purchases announced if any until the joint agreement
is reached.

Why are you guys on here so pessimistic about AA sending work outside. has a Union we should be fighting for Higher wages and better benefits. AA is making record profits and we should be insisting on doing more work in-house. We have given enough to this Airline. The time has come to not only get paid what the rest of our two competitors get paid without given one job back stop living in the past. They pay the pilots very well the Flight attendents very well and they have hire more of each. if those two groups didn't sacrifice jobs why should we. WAKE UP
