did they ever take any of the ones that one Canadian airliner had up or did I misread that somewhere?
If you mean West Jet in Canada, Yes.  We bought 10 from them so far.  Still looking for more used A/C.  SWA has reps all over the world still looking for more.
I would like to back track a little on my statement before. I would not rule out the 900 as an option for SWA to be able to get to further destinations.  Our CFO has also stated that one of the 4 main objectives for 2015 is a very strong financial position which could very well mean they might be gearing up for more purchases or maybe even another airline purchase to get the number of planes SWA wants to grow further in 2015, 16 and beyond.  They are looking at 50 plus new international (near) routes as well as focusing heavily on the DAL expansion. Need more A/C in order to do this...

WN mgmt. has said they are not interested in the 900, in part because in the present single class configuration for WN exit doors would have to be reactivated which offsets some of the benefit.

Boeing specifically created the latest version of the 737 for that purpose and WN could be interested in that model.

and while you are all excited about all of this int'l growth, everyone and their dog is growing in Latin America - except AA who is pulling back because of overcapacity and weak currencies.

WN has people who might be a bit more reserved in signing multi-billion dollar aircraft orders until they have some evidence that Latin America actually can develop as expected.

Southwest Airlines expects both profit and capacity growth in 2015
Executives at Southwest Airlines expect earnings growth the continue in 2015 after reporting record profits this year. The carrier expects to grow its capacity by 6% in 2015 and have fewer out-of-service planes after retiring all its Boeing 717s at the end of this year and adding extra rows of seats to refurbished 737s. The Motley Fool (11/13)

thanks swamt     if they were to buy another airline   my guess would be AS   they would have the 739s I believe

Thanks for the article 700

AS offers a first class cabin. that is a big reason why the 739 works for AS but in an all coach config, would require activating some of the emergency exits or doors which aren't used by legacy carriers.

btw, Spirit's addition of a bunch of cities in Mexico and Central America from IAH has to be seen as a preemptive move to get a corner in the market - and in some cases might make it impossible for WN to also serve some of the same markets based on treaty restrictions.

Correct 700. I have been saying this for months.  He just will not accept it.  That's ok though. He is wearing blinders and will never accept reality.  This is how SWA has been able to grow for the last couple of years as he claims SWA has reduced.  Thx for the article, I am done with him.  He is beyond understanding what is going on over here.  He is full force DELTA focused, let him go, he will be fine after he comes back to reality.  he's just like an addict who is in COMPLETE denile...

no, WN execs have been saying it and I have absolutely affirmed it.

you clearly have an inability to accept a single word that isn't in your narrative w/o losing everything positive that has been said.

I have said for a very long time that WN is a well-run company and will do very well in much of its expansion.

I do hve concerns that other carriers might not be quite as willing to roll over while WN plays big in Latin America.

With Spirit focused on IAH and WN on HOU, Houston could have end up with as much or more low cost carrier service to Latin America than any other city. perhaps that is fitting for Texas.

13% increase in SWA traffic for Oct over last Oct.  They are claiming the W/A going away is the reason. But the W/A did not go away until mid Oct on the 13th.  Just a little curious how the full month of Nov will look.  Also read again that SWA's LF is in the 90% range out of Love Field.  Some great mumbers to read about and look forward to many more in the future.  Has any other airline at LF posted Oct increases like these?  I don't think so, but I am not positive.  It would be hard for Virgin to compare unless they used the Oct traffic and LF out of DFW.  Delta and United on the other hand should have a very easily coparo to use, wonder what their traffic looks like as well as LF's for the month of Oct???  Hmmmm...

13%? no.

WN's October traffic was 4% higher than a year ago on essentially flat capacity - slightly better than what WN has reported for the rest of the year.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/southwest-airlines-reports-october-traffic-134500859.html

and while WN is posting some very healthy load factor increases, WN's RASM is not higher than other carriers in the industry.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/southwest-airlines-reports-october-traffic-134500859.html

in fact, WN's RASM growth for the quarter will likely be BELOW other carriers.

whether you want to see it or not, the facts are pretty clear regarding WN's traffic growth - as well as that of every other carrier.... because the industry largely reports it.
