And the kids are the ones who will ultimately lose...

I'm not saying there haven't been some threats, but this one is laughable. "On a pike in the Madison Town Square?" Where is this "town square" in MSN?

...Or lock 'em in, like they did today for awhile. Ya know, whichever...

It is absolutely a guard against corporate interest.

I'll assume you've read the bill. The entire thing is a paean to corporations. No bid sales of state-owned power plants, repeal of clean water regulations, you name it...

Actually, it's led to quite a long history of labor peace in WI.

I wonder what will happen if the TSA votes to organize?

The interesting question is what will aviation union members say when they can't work because of a TSA job action that cuts off their paycheck?

They are used to getting paychecks cut, pensions trashed, and jobs eliminated.

The TSA couldn't do worse to them than corporate America already has.

And the kids are the ones who will ultimately lose...

Please explain how the modest contribution to health care costs (way less then most) and modest wage cut will affect the kids. Are you saying that the teachers are going to take out their retribution on the kids? Seriously Kev that excuse never holds up. The kids win as less teachers are going to be laid of as a result of the overall costs savings.

Thats your union brethren for you.

Now we are talking lockem up in jail!

Yes repeal everything that democrats have put in place that is choking the state out of existence.

Actually, it's led to quite a long history of labor peace in WI.

Which is more important labor peace or state fiscal solvency?

I wonder what will happen if the TSA votes to organize?

More ineptitude most likely.

The Wisconsin Domino Theory

The protesters in Wisconsin have done themselves more harm than good by nationalizing their fight. Rather than gaining the people’s sympathies with their dancing, screaming, drumming, disgusting and disrespectful behavior, they have merely reinforced the desire of the public to curb the out of control spending and undue political influence of organized labor.

There are currently 18 states considering curbs on collective bargaining. I am not sure how the union leaders can continue to afford the cost of this fight and preserve their large salary and benefit packages.

Thank you, Governor Walker! Thank you, Wisconsin!

From Reuters

(Reuters) – Wisconsin’s state Assembly on Thursday approved restrictions on collective bargaining rights of state and local government unions, which has become a test of the national political and economic clout of the labor movement.

Public unions have the right to collectively bargain in about 30 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In some states in the South and West, public employees do not have the right to collectively bargain, and in Virginia and Texas it is illegal to enter into a formal bargaining relationship with the public sector.

I'm sure someone will get a knock at the door.

I sure as hell hope so and I hope they make an example out of them. How pathetic does a person have to be to insult or threaten another individual because they have differing political beliefs. Sad.

Beyond that, its federal time like ten to twenty I'd bet.

Uncle Sam don't like you messing with his boys.

I'm not saying that at all; I'm referring to the massive cuts in education spending itself (aside from the concession demands).

Now we are talking lockem up in jail!

They literally locked the capitol doors today (actually, they used handcuffs). No one in, and those already in the rotunda couldn't get out. I guess we can add fire codes to the long line of things this administration chooses to willfully ignore...

What about all of the things Republicans put in place that Walker is looking to destroy?

I know you enjoy getting a rise out of people on this board, but you do realize that labor nationwide is being punished for things that were never in their control, right?

Which is more important labor peace or state fiscal solvency?

C: Government acknowledging the will of the people, and working together to move forward.

You'd prefer they took the bait and things became violent? A peaceful uprising may not sit well with you, but it sure beats the alternative.

It's no secret Walker sees himself as the next Reagan. We've already touched on it, but he sees WI as the first "domino," and if it's successful, he wants to parlay that into a Presidential nod come '12 or '16.

Thank you, Governor Walker! Thank you, Wisconsin! Corporate interests!

Fixed your post...

Shouldn't be too hard to find, even for Walker's people.

Yes you are. Thats the standard knee jerk reply for eons. Because of xxx the kids suffer!

Oh please Kev, a bit dramatic.

What about all of the things Republicans put in place that Walker is looking to destroy?

Cut wherever necessary. Either that or let the state go bankrupt. You know how much the unions love that.

I know you enjoy getting a rise out of people on this board, but you do realize that labor nationwide is being punished for things that were never in their control, right?

Punished for what? Did someone promise you that when you grow up things were going to be easy? Things were going to be fair? Things where going to be ok no matter what?

C: Government acknowledging the will of the people, and working together to move forward.

How about the will of the taxpayer first?

You'd prefer they took the bait and things became violent? A peaceful uprising may not sit well with you, but it sure beats the alternative.

Why is the violence always a factor when union are involved? Cause and effect?

Oh yeah, blame the corporations (and don't forget FOX news) for all the ills in the world. Damn them. You do know that the Unions operate as a corporation right? They serve their interests first above the schlubs who fork over their union dues to them.

WARNING!!!....................................WARNING!!!

Race card about to be played !!!

"Unions frame bargaining as civil rights issue"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110311/ap_on_re_us/us_unions_civil_rights

"This is a fight for workers, this is a fight for the middle class, this is a fight to try to stave off the shift in power and wealth that is starting to become gross," said Harold Schaitberger, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters.

12% of the population does not make up the middle class.

They will be the ones that ultimately bear the consequences. That's not knee jerk, that's reality. It's also a sad testament to what our society prioritizes.

Oh please Kev, a bit dramatic.

No, not dramatic. Boringly literal. That's what they used to secure the doors.

Punished for what? Did someone promise you that when you grow up things were going to be easy? Things were going to be fair? Things where going to be ok no matter what?

They are being made to pay for the recession, which was caused by the largest transfer of wealth in decades. There's a difference between "life isn't fair," and having to bear the brunt of someone else's greed.

How about the will of the taxpayer first?

Yes, how 'bout that. Maybe Walker should look out on the Capital and see all of the taxpayers and their "will." Maybe he should think about them when he repeals clean water laws and the effect that may have on no only citizens' health, but also tourism. Maybe he should think about that when he sells state-owned assets on no bid contracts at fire sale prices.

Why is the violence always a factor when union are involved? Cause and effect?

Always? That's quite the broad brush you're carrying there...

I hope he does.

I'm sure you do. Why you would want a man who is tossing democratic principles and civil liberties out the window to do that on a national level is beyond me, but not surprising.

Unions are non-profit, no matter how bad you want to believe otherwise.

Please explain the direct hardships kids will have to endure because the small percentage of WI citizens (who happen to be greedy union teachers) are now going to have to chip in to cover their health care costs. And still at a much less cost then the rest of WI citizens. Please correlate something theat resembles cause and effect.

Thats a pathetic myth that is deeply ingrained into the union mental madness. If you think your education quality is dependent upon your teachers being in a union, you're right...but in the wrong direction.

And to the rest of your rebuttals, you make it sound like the apocalypse has been rendered against WI. It hasn't. Its for the benefit for the entire citizens of the state, not the privileged entitled few who happen to cling to their union label like a life raft.

Oh Dapoes you've no idea what's in store for the children of WI. Having lived in 2 states that permit teachers to strike, I can tell you from direct experience that. it can get mighty ugly. We had so much rancor the union began to video tape parents who came to board meetings in an attempt to intimidate. The union went around and recorded the addresses of those who had lawn signs supporting the School Board. The School Board President had his home picketed regularly.

Students (Including my then Stepdaughter) were singled out and harassed by certain teachers for the actions of their parents. I was told point blank in front of witnesses by one of her teachers "You had better watch your arse, your daughter will be in this school district a long time" This comment came in response to a formal complaint I'd filed against the teacher for verbally abusing my ten year old step daughter.

The reason I went on here pounding on Walker to make a negotiated settlement was to avoid the stories like the one above. This isn't over and I assure you there is likely no long term victor. I would hate to have a kid in school in WI I'll tell you that.

Now that we have a perceived victory, the drive by media will move on and the citizens will deal with the aftermath and there will be an aftermath you can count on it. NEA and it's WI subsidiary aren't going away. Not now, not tomorrow. They will stir up the pot from now until Walker runs for another office. They will also find IMO that given the conduct of individual teachers towards parents and students they will have lost the support of the average citizen of WI, We are far from done with this saga.

Your probably right. But what I was referring to was the long held notion that "when xxxx happens, the kids suffer" educationally.

Now if the kids are to suffer thru acts of retribution and vengeance then that's another issue altogether. That should not be a factor either when facing the harsh reality of the states financial situation. If the teachers start acting up, then fire them. There's plenty who would love to take their job. It's one of the main reasons I despise most unions. They don't get there way so they take it out on those who have nothing to do with it. Animals.
