Why was Shares chosen of Sabre?

So now the debate has boiled down to which pig is better?

If the Qik Pig runs slower than the SHARES Pig and they both run slower than SABRE, why pick either pig?

Because crippled management can only catch a slower pig?

morale in this company will improve when the employees of this company are given the RIGHT tools to work with. and it is very true that our Elite frequent flyers are using us less. the other majors are offering them the miles they earned on US and making them Elite on that airline. all the frequent flyer has to do is show them past travel statements and a guarantee that they will fly so much in the next year to keep that status. this has been available to all frequent flyers for many years. but it is now being used by our flyers more so because of the service they are getting. they are tired of hearing from Tempe.. im sorry im sorry and DP telling the news media that "WE RUN A SUBSTANDARD AIRLINE".

I just wish..

that I had a 5lb sledge hammer to beat QIK/Shares into it's timely demise.....

You can dress it up...but it's still a pig.

While I was waiting to board my plane on Wednesday I watched 3 GA's try to get pax BP's out, they started to have to write their seat assignments on the BP. One computer crashed & had to be rebooted. Something which was able to be done with one GA now takes several, that must be a cost savings according to the sand castle

This is just a preview, once the summer peak goes in full force the computers will be crashing left & right.

the thing with Sabre and any other reliable reputable system you needed to type the info in and you were given a reason why the transaction didnt take. with this PIG system you can enter F1 F2 and F this and you wont get an answer why its not working. we type faster and you will notice the system cant digest fast enough what we want. just keep remembering.. BUSY BUSY TIME OUT TIME OUT.. please MR Agent you are too efficient and Shares cant handle that!

my understanding was that after the tragic TWA flight back in 1994 that emergency contact information was required for all international travelers. this was a DOT directive. this PIG system does not ask for it when checking customers in. then again remember the news media when they mentioned that AWA was losing unaccompanied minors left and right because the system relyed on paper special service requests.. thats why today US no longer accepts unaccompanied minors on connecting flights.. even today the system doesnt document the arrival gate info on the flight attendant manifest. i guess AWA said .. who cares who is on the airplane and the plane will land and it will go to a gate

DP says shares was chosen because US east had a SABRE contract we could get out of because of BK, where HP could not get out of the shares contract with EDS.

I agree with you. When US signed the SABRE agreement in late 1997, it was heralded by SABRE (still part of AMR) as a "multibillion, 25 year agreement." US, by filing for Ch 11 protection twice in the last five years, had two chances to rid itself of the SABRE deal, and the purchase of US by HP was the strategic time to exercise that right (by rejecting the SABRE deal).

Given the superiority of SABRE, it would have been retained if the SHARES contract could have been canceled cheaply. Too bad it couldn't.

our big time frequent flyers always are saying some phrase like and dime spent a penny foolish? what this management thinks of the money they are saving with this PIG is not helping customer service.. we are STAR ALLIANCE. a big time and i mean big time membership the biggest and the best in the industry. we pay and need to re-learn from the Tempe version to be a company worthy of Star Alliance and not some large regional airline flying PHX to LAS oh i forgot AWA flys to PVR.. hmmm big time

Just another opinion, but, it seems the HP/US version of QIK evolved out of a set of macros, simple little programs that accomplish one thing. Someone threw those macros together into an overlay and, hopefully unintentionally (like "blowing" a slide), crippled agents when accomplishing procedures with which Tempe would not be familiar, like real overseas flights.

I can guess they thought they could "sell" this version of QIK to other carriers. Well, we deal with naivete all the time. How can we tell Tempe to "age" that bastard until the sun goes nova? While I appreciate the time and energy, I simply loathe the application of such a unfinished piece of junk.

Macros carry viruses. Any high school IT tech wanna be can tell you this. That might be the problem with this system. This system has acted like it's got a major virus from the get go. It crashes every day some where. And our IT people are clueless. Why??

Shut it down.

Put Sabre back on line. We don't have time to fiddle with this anymore.

emergency contact information was required for all international travelers. this was a DOT directive. this PIG system does not ask for it when checking customers in.

Its a manual entry just like logging all the Fims/HMT vchrs, etc....
Look on the back of the boarding pass, its there. Do you really think the computer could handle any more info? ;)

The company has kept Sabre in the back ground.

I'd like to say for a reason. Maybe to see how the QIK/SHARES res would work out.

Okay, it's not working out.

Put Sabre back on line.

The Pilots want it...the flight attendants want it ...the gate agents want it...the rampers want it...

And most importantly, the customers need it.!!!!

Get it back on line so we can run this airline on time!!!

like ive said. CO employees see our version of this PIG system and they laugh. they have the advanced version which is so much easier. its all about money. i can now understand how AWA worked with this system. when you fly PHX-LAS etc etc you dont need to much thinking. then you merge with the BIG GUYS and this system just doesnt cut it. we cant even get up to date avialability on partner Star Alliance members like we did on Sabre. and Star Alliance is invalueable to US

I wonder if any quantitative study has been done how many keystrokes routine transactions require in native vs QIK.
(Not to mention native actually works.)
