Why was Shares chosen of Sabre?

A SABRE reconversion would be the quickest and the one that would create the fewest, if any problems. It would also put our operation back on solid footing. It is true that QIK is indeed the main problem , not necessarily Shares, but if qik is the problem let us turn it off and work in NATIVE shares . ......... Give us SABRE back or at least access to Native Shares. Why is it that Tempe and OCC don't use qik? They use native shares. Do you see a problem here? They have access but the front line does not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to both a regional customer service director and a former C/S systems analyst who now works in IT, there are no plans to let frontline users have access to native SHARES.

For those of you who work (or spend time) at the airport: Take a walk over to CO; ask the agents if they use native SHARES or CO's GUI overlay. Chance are pretty good they use native, especially on anything other than a routine check-in.

Meanwhile, the QIK fixes drag on and on (and cost money: see the the 5/29 Migration Relief thread). And still it falls short of Sabre's functionality.

It doesn't matter how much money Tempe wastes in it's ill concieved attempt to make a SABRE like system out of Shares. It will never ,ever happen .,. The IT dept has neither the talent, the ability or the intellect to make it happen. All we will get is a second rate system that is only slightly more functional than it was when we started this res migration debacle . Shares is ,and will forever be an unmitigated failure . There is simply no hope for it , and the sooner Tempe comes to that realization the better off we will all be. Shares as we have it is a second rate system designed for a small regional carrier , not a system designed a carrier with a reasonably large internatiuonal network and 3 times as many flights. Shares technology is as old as SABRE but not nearly as competant. Shares is just one more example of Tempe bringing the company down to the level of LOW CLASS CARRIER. There have been no decisions that have come out of Tempe that improve us , only ones that make us look worse in the eyes of the public.

we are now into month 3 of this PIG system and it is still a topic. its not going away. AWA was cheap and now US is cheap. the folks at CO laugh at us because of the Shares version we work with. theirs is much more efficient but you need to have a Brain.. seems like AWA hired folks for 8.50 per hour with half of one. then they joined the BIG LEAGUES and are addressing the EAST way of doing things and have set up FIX IT TEAMS. obviously Tempe realized the this pig system need to be updated but yes you would have thought they would have FIXED IT before Mar 4. and could anyone please tell me why when you book UA who of course is in the Star Alliance and a big time player we cant get automatic confirmation. it stays in Pending Need. you would think that we would have up to the minute availability with all our Star Alliance members like we did in Sabre. OH I FORGOT THATS PART OF THE FIX IT....

Can anyone out there tell us of anything that could be consisdered a positive aspect of shares ? Compare it to SABRE if you can........... OOPS not possible since shares is such a loser system comparison is not possible. These 2 systems are not even in the same universe and unfortunately like many other choices Tempe has elected to pick another loser. Can anyone tell us of any other good decisions coming out of Tempe? A/C reconfigurations........NOT, Lowering of service levels , Less leg room on our planes than anyone else in the industry , no coat closets on 320/321 (winter is a non season in Tempe), reduced upgrade opportunities for elites (who have now had enough and are leaving in droves)

  Did you even read the other posts in this thread? It's not SHARES that's the problem, it's the QIK overlay. Criminy.

Let me explain this in ways you Neanderthals can understand:

QIK - BAD
Native SHARES - GOOD

Yes we agree , but we will never get access to Native Shares , so we are stuck with this pig. Tempe doesn't seem to think we can handle it. Give us the tools and we will make it work. Qik /shares is just not the tool we need to do the job. We need craftsman tools not playschool. It is Tempe who can't handle it. They can't handle the truth that their decisions are destroying this airline. Is ANYONE proud of the decisions and changes this leadership team has done and inflicted upon us? Where are all the smart business decisions we were hoping for? We have been disappointed and embarrassed by almost everything Tempe has done. They have done one thing right though , they are slowly (too slowly however) bring res back from off shore contractors. Some of the stories we have heard about what they have said to passengers is sad .

The main problem here is that no matter how "easy" qik/shares may be. IT DOESN'T WORK. It is a half assed system that relys on popups and multiple "keypads". You have to hunt to try to get the info you need and even then it's probably not accurate.. BUSY BUSY TIMEOUT. Please if not SABRE at least Native Shares. We will settle and I do mean settle for it. Almost anything has got to be better than the qik/shares hogzilla.

1) It was junk in the beginnng
2) Still is JUNK!
3) WILL ALWAYS BE JUNK!

Not IMPRESSED with DP, KS or anyone else at the top.

In addition to CO, Air China and Asiana use SHARES.. why I have no IDEA. I read something while back that a few companies were working on a COMPLETE AIRLINE RESERVATIONS system, one that does everything. Since Sabre is part of AMR... it has to be very expensive to use the system.

Was part of AA. AA spun SABRE off a long time ago.

I'm still..

Just another opinion, but, it seems the HP/US version of QIK evolved out of a set of macros, simple little programs that accomplish one thing. Someone threw those macros together into an overlay and, hopefully unintentionally (like "blowing" a slide), crippled agents when accomplishing procedures with which Tempe would not be familiar, like real overseas flights.

I can guess they thought they could "sell" this version of QIK to other carriers. Well, we deal with naivete all the time. How can we tell Tempe to "age" that bastard until the sun goes nova? While I appreciate the time and energy, I simply loathe the application of such a unfinished piece of junk.
