Since so many of you "seem" to have a plan B if US Airways were to go under tomorrow, let's hear it from those who feel confident that the world is waiting to scoop you up. Now, none of the "I thinks". What is your plan? What offers have you guys gotten? Now is your chance to gloat or are those of you who make such claims all mouth? Let's hear it...or in this case, read it.

This topic always seems to come up a lot more lately at work and I have always answered honestly to my coworkers. I have no plan B. I just have a few ideas on what career path to take next. I guess the bottom line is no plan B.

Great topic starter First

Thanks, Philly, I just want to draw awareness...I know, how Louise Hayes..but I have no plan B because, gosh darn ( I know I won't be edited) I like my job and my lifestyle. Anger about the co. is one thing but emotion with no merrit is another. I don't even know if I make sense, but to be honest, YES, IMO, it IS worth giving more to keep the lifestyle I absolutely adore. For those who work shifts or 9-5, I understand. Really, I do. I am completely speaking selfishly. I LIKE MY F/A LIFE..ok...I admit it. And I would rather sacrifice than sit in an office all day. I interviewed for a supervisor position in CLT and hyperventalated at the thought of a 9-5....so please, those of you that are frustrated, it's not that I CAN'T do anything else, but I have seen what is out there. Guys, really, it ain't purdy. If you have other options and feel so passionately, why not go for it? I mean really. I am shocked that some of our union leadership brag at how they have other options. Well, goodie for you, but for once think that MOST of us want our company to survive. If that isn't the #1 priority, then YES, you should quit and move on or resign your post as a leader. I am as frustrated as the next person, but I WILL NOT VOTE NO just because I am angry. That would reduce me to the level of too many who would rather see us die than sacrifice any more. And please, I am a card carrying AFA member, so please, DO NOT lecture me, any of you...just because you hate your job-life doesn't mean we all do. My $39 a month is worth as much if not more than the next opinionated stew. Good day!!

firstamendment,

I hesitated to answer your question, thinking I'm probably in the minority. But here goes anyway....

There is no plan B. I'm too close to mandatory retirement to start over somewhere else in the airline business. Even before the concessions and bankruptcy, I often toyed with the idea of some sort of part-time flying job after retirement since I love the flying and know that I will miss it. I still do toy with the idea but have never pursued it. Whether the doors close or my retirement rolls around, I may pursue that possibility then.

Fortunately, when spread over the rest of my life (hopefully many more years), it makes little difference whether this place shuts down tomorrow or lasts till I retire.

They say "necessity is the mother of invention". So...when I need a plan B, I will invent one. What other choice do I have. <_<

You could always pilot Spaceship one -- the pilot who take into space for the first time was 65 I believe (Mike Melville)

SVQLBA,

If you know anyone in Rutan's organization I'd appreciate you putting in a word for me.

Actually, that would fulfill one of my lifelong dreams - going into space. Another was riding the Concorde, but alas that's not to be.

Seriously, you need to take a hard look at debts and monthly commitments and get those cleaned up if they aren't, so if the worst happens you're not staring personal BK in the face.
Hey Piney
A lot of what you mentioned is in my plan A.
