If US Airways and America West decide to merge, regulators and fliers are unlikely to object enough to scuttle the deal, analysts and consumer groups say.
That would mean a relatively easy jump over the hurdle that tripped up US Airways' last attempt at a merger. Four years ago, the U.S. Justice Department nixed a proposed marriage between Charlotte's dominant carrier and United Airlines, saying it would hurt competition and mean higher fares for fliers.
