SKY HIGH states: IT'S EARNED. Ever sit on the runway for 4 HOURS in the middle of the summer with little to NO air conditioning? FULL FLIGHT. Sweat dripping down the middle of your back?........IT'S EARNED, Clue.

The best thing for the HP flight attendants to do would be to take it for what it is. Seniority is seniority and AFA is date of hire... Why even argue about something that was in both of our AFA agreements before our airlines were even thought of to merge.
If this was a buyout then it would be a different story.

I am looking forward to seeing some new faces whether they are Junior or Senior, Bitter or Sweet....
;)

Whoa there B707B,
While I will agree that some of the tone of the posting by Matt was a little harsh, did you really have to go there with the "or do the two of you have something else going on??" crap? That is more "venom" that has no place in the forum. As a working MidAtlantic/Mainline US Airways FA, I am looking forward to the merger of these two airlines and would hope that we all will be able to be civil and humane to each other while this merger settles itself out.
I have read all about the "fences" that the unions are trying to work out (which I agree with) and in all honesty, I hope that the HP non rev policy is instituted, First come, First served for non-revving is an idea I love. YES, I am just a lowly junior line holder at MidAtlantic and never held a line before I was furloughed from Mainline, but I always thought it sucked that someone senior to me could show up 5 minutes before flight time and bump me out of a seat even though I was there 45 minutes ahead of time.
Anyway, I for one look forward to the day I get called back to the "New" US Airways and get the chance to meet and work with the folks at HP, as an ex Phoenix resident, I will embrace and welcome all those folks. I know how hard it is to be the new kid on the block, and sometimes you have to be the one to reach out to make a friend.
My only real enemy in this industry so far has been P*** poor management, the Union, and Bigots. But I'm still here and fighting for my chance.

Wow! Another lecture from another Phoenix "boy". Are you president of Matty's fan club or do you two have something else going on?? I am very suprised at the venom being spewed by two people who are supposed to be the best that Hp has to offer. Go back and read both of your posts and see the insulting tone and just pure horse crap that both of you wrote. My 12 year old daughter could have handled that better. Please remember that posts like that do nothing but enrage a group of employees that will out number you 2 to 1 when this is all over. Eventually the DATE OF HIRE idea will grow on you. It won't be so bad man......relax!

You mean, your job?

You earned a paycheck for that. You accrued seniority.

Clue,

I stand corrected. You do accrue seniority just by years of service to a company.

With regard to granting someone added seniority or subtracting years of service in seniority from others than they have, is a deservice to those who have stayed with 1 company for decades.

During the years of US Airways many mergers there have been many f/as who were disadvantaged by merging other carriers with regard to seniority, but we as AFA members have always honored the AFA policy in our history. When Piedmont bought Empire, they placed them at the bottom of their list. When US Air bought Piedmont we fixed the Empire stappling issue, and brought everyone back according to AFA policy....DOH.

US Airways' AFA has always been consistant.

Up until this point HP has never felt the need to merge with any other carrier, so our seniority has always been just that....OUR seniority. Why should ANYONE be disadvantaged because of a merger. No one should gain, no one should lose...why can't you all just play fair? You are at one end of the stick and guess what...we are not at the other...we're trying to be in the middle.

This thread sounds like a bunch of cackling hens. You guys are loosing sleep over something that is pretty much out of your hands. At the end of the day you have accomplished absolutely zero except build animosity between everyone. Senority is senority. Years are years. Thats the way it is. Deal with it. "Life's a ####, then you die". BTW management could care less who goes or who stays. The End

Actually, AWA was in serious merger talks with UAL during the last contract campaign. Also, ATA last year (although it has been said this was merely a distraction for Southwest). So, our seniority would have changed DRAMATICALLY had the UAL deal gone through. And of course, if the ATA merger would have happened, everyone at AWA would be screaming DATE OF HIRE!
As soon as everyone starts to realize that there arent 2 sides here, we are all going to be better off. WE ARE ONE...in a few weeks.

Few know that AWA and TWA were in merger talks during the Franke regime. If anyone recalls, both companies implemented an extensive codeshare that lasted...oh...about a day. That was the result of an agreement that merging different workgroups was not possible. The merger never came to fruition, needless to say. Then AA with its ravenous appetite swallowed it up then realized that its eyes were bigger than its tummy. Can anyone imagine the seniority issues with such a debacle as a TWA-AWA merger.

As a US Airways F/A for 20 years living in PHX...I have thought about this from both sides. I will not beable to "bump" anyone out of PHX unless there is an opening. That could be years from now. So I will continue to fly my wonderful Int'l trips out of PHL and enjoy it until a spot is opened for me in PHX. And like most US employee's...will look forward to flying with some new faces and keep my fingers crossed that we will be a successful airline. Don't sweat the small stuff...we have no control over it.!!!!

All I can say is that it will not take much to push the remaining US F/A's over the edge! Most of us who have decided to stay are looking forward to a brighter more stable future with this company. The one's who have left and are leaving have pretty much moved on to other jobs, mainly because they didn't care for all the changes that have happened around here, And YES there have been some Major changes that have change our lifestyle in this job!

I can't imagine, how the US F/A's are going to react to not having DOH granted in this merger! I mean it REALLY is only fair to ALL involved! There are going to STILL be US F/A's who are going to lose seniority AGAIN because there are some more senior F/A's at AWA. But that's how the cookie crumbles, and we (US F/A's) have been through that scenario already 3 or 4 times. It's not a fantastic thing, but it's a FAIR way to integrate everybody. If DOH isn't granted as we merge both companies, then there will have to be a fence up around PHX and US bases too....because that would be FAIR to the US F/A's...right? Kinda of like who has the better toys....you or me? What is the big deal with PHX? US has better flying and is bringing more to the table here! PHX is HOT with no season changes and not near any beaches like the East Coast US bases are! Plus we love our Transatlantic and Carribbean layovers! Don't worry about US F/A's bombarding PHX, its not going to happen! There will be a few that want to go, I'm sure, but don't any of the AWA F/A's want to try flying to Europe too? And please pray that it does go DOH because US F/A's will be HELL ON WHEELS to deal with if it doesn't happen.....trust me on this one......I've seen it and lived it over the past 17 years! It can be pretty frightening! In that case, the fences may not be a bad idea!

I agree that it would be unfair for AFA to change the by laws at this point. No matter what the argument, to change now AFA would be favoring a particular group at a critical time.

However, we know that life is sometimes not fair and we all need to be prepared for things not to work out the way we want. And more importantly no matter how they work out, we need to remain professional. If you can't imagine how you'll react if AFA decided against DOH, I suggest you start preparing. If you can't imagine how you'll react if AFA decides for DOH, I suggest you start preparing.

I read a book recently called Who Move My Cheese by Spencer Johnson. It's maybe a 2 hour read and it applies to our current situation and many others in the business world. I think everyone should read it prior to the merger.

learn from AA-TWA just fair warning. And cool the go to your board crap i feel your pain both sides.Good luck.

This is very true people - at this time more than any we need the union and we need our bylaws... People at TWA got so screwed and they should have insisted on seniority integration - they didn't and now look at them they are ALL without a job.... GO BY THE BYLAWS !!!! It will work out for you in the event of a future buyout or merger TRUST ME!!! This airline froshizzle isn't over yet just b/c AWA and US merge there are still many other possibilities... secure our future by sticking with the by-laws...
