And YOU voted yes?
You're absolutely correct! The working relationship between the TWU locals and management has been horrible. And, why?? Because the workers don't trust management and view them as losers and dumbasses. And, management can't stand the fact that guys pull scams, file grievances, and talk smack about them. The place has been a snake pit since the late 90's. Plus, whenever YOU voluntarily giveback to the company your sweat and tears for 9 years and watch the company squander that money.....while rewarding themselves bonuses.....is not a good recipe for a relationship with your employees. Management definitely screwed up the place back in 2003. You think it's miserable now.....just wait! Thank god I'm out of that snake pit called ORD!You have to look at the culture at SWA. The relationship between the company and the workers. It is not the same as here at AA. A co worker who has been employed at AA since 1982 mentioned to me the other day that since he has been at AA it has NEVER been a labor friendly environment. Can we say that about others like SWA and non union Delta?
Here is a example on how well SWA treats its employees.

To make a comparison you have to have similarities. AA vs Labor is unique in its own way. No comparison can be made. The closest one might be USAir.
For the people who speak of the 1983 concessions, here is a little of what was going on during that time.
We were just a few years out of deregulation. Legacy carriers with topped out employees with full defined pensions were having to compete with start ups like SWA who outsourced most of their maintenance and hires new employees without the defined pension plan.
We were under Reagan, who had fired and jail a devastating amount of air traffic controllers for striking. The first wave of union brothers paroled were during this time, with nightly news covering their reemergence from prison.
AA lost $1billion (seems small by today's standards). Continental lost half that and was in bankruptcy. Eastern and some other once globally dominate airlines were on their last gasps.
Crandal had a plan to grow the airline to become the largest in the US. We were rarely awarded routes, we bought our South American route system. Crandal grew us at light speed. I hired on in 1985, look at our senority list from 85 to 88 and you will see exactly what we got for our concessionary contract, jobs, jobs, and more jobs.
And lastly, the union officials asked everyone to vote NO in 1983. It was the union membership who went against them. Check your local library achieves if you don't believe it.
I am not a TWU supporter (been signing AMFA cards since the mid 80s) but it is almost more than I can take to see the vultures circle before we have even taken our last breath. Misinformation and agendas coming from all angles when people are in crisis. It is just not appropriate. Title 1 at AA will decide how they are represented, circling vultures who are looking to exploit us at our time of crisis need to stop.
Too bad that you have two things going against you......The TWU leadership has been in bed with the company for years, and you have a membership that isn't willing to fight. I'm not exactly sure how the membership pulled off Happy Holidays....because that was over $300 that the company was paying the F/A for working over the Millenium. Now, AA just basically raped you.......and your not willing to fight to save your profession. And, it's not even the profession.....it's to save your family from more hardships. What happened to having some integrity, moral values.....dignity?? You allowed AA to destroy your values.....as a working person! You gave it all up for what??? so some schmuck in China can take your job. It's all about saving your livlihood....and not one soul was willing to fight. How can you possibly look at your kids in the face? How pathetic is that? Again, nothing personal against YOU....when I say "you"....I mean the membership. You only get one bite at the apple.....and you allowed AA to swallow the apple. And, for what? To save the TWU, again! They're not saving jobs! AA wanted and got it's most prized possession......system protection. Game over! You're now at risk. Little and his cronies aren't.....they're not at risk. They laid the membership out to dry....they bamboozled you, again.......and, they still collect dues money, while you collect unemployment. Nice! When are YOU going to learn?? And, by no means am I saying that AMFA's the answer.....but pick an organization that really cares about "the working person"....an organization that has leaders with some "skin" in the game. The TWU leadership doesn't have any "skin" in the game. And, they never will....the only ones that have skin in the game is your local leadership.....and you see how effective that's been. It was time to change union's 20 years ago.....but the membership is too busy playing on their laptops.....sitting in a corner.....playing dominos...cards......or just roaming the terminal to look at hot chicks....instead of worrying about their JOB! Good Luck! For the people who speak of the 1983 concessions, here is a little of what was going on during that time.

2 things; 1- SWA was hardly a start up airline in 1983. It was over 12 years old when this happend. Yes SWA was still a young airline, but no longer a start up. Once beyond 5 years and making continuous profits and growth would make you a competitor and no longer a start up. IMO.
You're nit-picking. IMO.
In terms of competing with large legacy airlines, it's not a mistake to refer to WN as a "start-up" in 1983. WN was still very small but beginning to grow rapidly.
At year-end 1982, WN had 37 planes. At year end 1983, WN had 46 planes.
LOL. Ok, your right. I will retrack my first statement. The second stays as it is 2 years after the conssesions that this individual was hired, so he was not affected by the 83' conssesions.
Just wait, I can see the same kind of growth with the international side now. GK has stated that he sees us up to 1000 aircraft by 2017 or 2018 and most of this will be due to the international market as well as smaller US growth except anything that helps the international side.
Why in the freakin world would any of you AA mechanics want to stay with the TWU when they have ALWAYS caved to the companies demands of conssesions evry single time they wanted them??? 1993= CONSSESIONS! 2003= CONSSESIONS! 2013= CONSSESIONS! Along with all these years of conssesions they also include lay-offs, rifs, relocations, families uprooted, mechs having to commute, reductions in overtime pay, sick pay, hol pay, day trades, if you guys even had them. What will it take for you guys to stop the company union from ripping everything you guys have left out of your hands??
This really is sad to watch. Take control of your union as well as you lives, vote in AMFA and watch each and every one of you say, damb, we should have done this DECADES ago. With your current union the company knows what they can get by with. The 50.25% yes votes proves this very fact. Unbelievable what you guys are willing to continue to go thru with the TWU. And some of you are willing to trade the TWU for the crooked and coruped teamsters. WOW!!
That is something I'm still trying to understand. It make no sense to stay with TWU. I signed my card and all AMT at my location (line) did the same. If the people do not sign now with this screw do not know what will convince the people to sign.
NWA = All but 900 jobs lost
. We are totally screwed like the UA, DL, and US guys were after BK and we will be living this for at least four years (early openers) but at least we are not like NW. AMFA led them totally off the cliff and they never recovered.
Sorry for the harsh facts brother.
I think this is the last card drive for me as an organizer, I'm tired...not giving up though! If they don't sign now, then AA will keep the company union TWU untill the end of time. I am pretty sure this is the last and final AMFA card drive at AA. If they all deside to keep the TWU or vote in the teamsters, you all will fully get what you all deserve-trust me...
