After they (in all likelihood, in violation of the CBA and most certainly against what they actually said to the IAM-M and here on this very forum) already sent the work out of house. You never actually address this point while you are beating your drumbeat about "pain" and such, probably because it shoots your point in the six. I'll be delighted to read your thoughts on this matter.

Or, to put it another way, if the company decides to send all A320 flying to Mesa and subsequently issues a press release stating that "it is willing to bring future Airbus flying in-house," would you urge ALPA to negotiate concessions?

I don't think you would. Perhaps, in that light, you might see where the IAM is coming from.

Median hourly earnings of automotive service technicians and mechanics, including commission, were $14.71 in 2002. The middle 50 percent earned between $10.61 and $19.84. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $8.14, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $25.21. Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of service technicians in 2002 were as follows:

Local government $18.04
Automobile dealers 17.66
Gasoline stations 13.04
Automotive repair and maintenance 12.77
Automotive parts, accessories, and tire stores 12.60

Many experienced technicians employed by automobile dealers and independent repair shops receive a commission related to the labor cost charged to the customer. Under this method, weekly earnings depend on the amount of work completed. Employers frequently guarantee commissioned mechanics and technicians a minimum weekly salary.

Some automotive service technicians are members of labor unions such as the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers; the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America; the Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association; and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

WAGES, HOURS, AND FRINGE BENEFITS

Automobile Mechanics are paid according to their experience. The pay for Automobile Mechanics changes a lot between the different areas of the state. Those workers barely starting out can expect a pay of minimum wage up to $15.50 hourly, while mechanics with some experience earn between minimum wage and $22.00 an hour. Mechanics at the journey level can earn between $5.50 to $31.25.

Mechanics working for new car dealers and larger repair shops and garages usually work an 8-hour day and a 40-hour week. Sometimes overtime is paid at either time and one-half or double time. When working on a holiday, sometimes they are paid at two and one-half or triple-time the hourly rate.

Well that's all the proof you can muster up? Your word is supposed to be enough for me and others on here?? YEAH RIGHT!! Isn't it funny how you hold some people to one standard but you don't hold yourself to the same standard? It's typical of you and yours. The rules and standards of today are for everyone but you huh 700?
I've provided viable information it's just it's not what you want to hear so you tune it out.
So what does ol' Bobby Roach take in his coffee nowadays anyway? :p

I would not know, sorry I was doing my job. By the way is all you can do is try to insult people instead of adding to the debate and/or discussion?

You don't know who I am or what I do. But keep up the insults to show your maturity.

Hendrick BMW in Charlotte and they are non-union, pays $25+ and hour, we just lost one of our guys to them, the union car dealerships around the country pay very well.

Glad to see you have to try to attack and insult once again.

Better go insure them FF points.

Break into anyone's office lately and steal?

By the way, I have not as you say
Stick to keeping the turd bowls clean and working
in two months, I am on another assignment.

Interesting that NONE of these figures is close to double $13.10/Hr. Doesn't take into account that these are "MEDIAN" numbers meaning HALF earn LESS.

All of you cut and paste show that unless you are among the top 10 percent your earnings will not be near double. Your paste even goes to show how little government knows.

Car Dealerships pay based on the "Flat Rate Hour" it's not a "commission". They pay your hourly rate based on a predetermined "Book" time. A good Mech can easily earn 50 to 60 flat rate hours.

You are drop dead wrong if you think that $25/hr mech jobs in dealers exist. You make your money on exceeding the flat rate hour. Heck the Dealer that fixes my Audi pays between $16.00 & $20.00 per flat rate hour and you've got some senior guys that do a bit better but they are certified Porsche Mechs.

Stick to keeping the turd bowls clean and working.

Bob,

Don't know where you are getting your figures, but in PIT, the dealership mechanics make upwards of $22 per hour. I too, have an AUDI.

My son will be attending a trade school next year for his auto license and training. He will also go to Robert Morris College to work towards degree in Computer technology which is his passion.

Trust, if being a mechanic license didn't pay well, he would not be pursuing both.

Attempting to "shame" folks for what they do, will not enhance your cause or point.

Frankly, its down right "distasteful".

Ugh, must you continue to do that sort of thing?

Go to salary.com and check into the actual median for specific positions in specific geographic regions. These individuals will continue to get work and they will do what they must to survive (with or without US). Nothing you say or do here on this forum will change their resolve. Your opinion, my opinion, or anyone outside of their circumstances with an opinion, matters not in the grand scheme of their personal struggle.

Best of luck to all.

I just looked in my hometown and it was $48,000 a year plus for a certified mechanic.

And in Charlotte, NC it was $49,000 a year plus.

Hey Bob, ever crawl into the wing fuel tank to clean it?

Of the Hellhole of a 737 to clean up skydrol?

Ever hang from the hangar ceiling and buff the top of a 767 or A330?

And to Pitbull, Dilligas and Lark, thank you.

And like I said, I am doing something outside of US at the moment.
