Shareholders Meeting

When I'm Seymour's age, I hope to God that I'm sitting by a cool stream with fishing pole in my hand and not in some crappy shareholder's meeting in hotter than hell Arizona yelling like a crazy bastard.

Guess you've never been out here during the summer. The standing joke is that one needs a coat for the indoors. I'm sure that the AC in the room was cranked low enough to hang meat in there... B)

How about when she told him this is was worst audio sound sytem she had every seen at a stockholers meeting! I bet Doug ran out of there so fast! The whole thing was just a train wreck.

Ah yes, the high cost of cheap....lowest bidder, get away with bare minimum......

Again---consistent.

Although I'd like to remind folks there is nothing world class about United. Parker and his folks have about 1000x more class, a better attitude and a more human tone when it comes to dealing with employees and customers. Tilton is an animal (the one you call the new a321). I really don't get what the big deal is about United? I'd be a little more careful if Doug Parker wanted to take on an international airline like Singapore of Lufty, but when it comes to UA- Parker would have brought back 'cool' to United.

US Airways shares fall 15% on shareholder meeting day
Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - 5:36 PM EDT

US Airways Group Inc. expects the U.S. airline industry to cut capacity 9 percent in the fourth quarter and 9 percent more next year because of escalating fuel costs.

"Oil prices are having a profound impact on our economy but an even more severe impact on the airline business," US Airways CEO Doug Parker said at the carrier's shareholder meeting Wednesday. "The industry is taking aggressive action that will have meaningful impact."

Shares in the airline, the dominant carrier at Philadelphia International Airport, closed down 15 percent at $3.20.

The president of US Airways said Wednesday the airlines needs to charge $700 fares to just break even.

``What needs to happen is fares need to go up," Scott Kirby told the annual meeting of the Tempe-based airlines. ``We're paying $299 per customer just for fuel. Our total cost per customer is about $700. We aren't charging $700. We have to get to where we can charge $700 per customer just to break even."

The fuel cost, alone, per passenger has doubled in the past year, Kirby said.

He said U.S. Airways also plans on cutting some flights.

The board will meet this week to consider some changes, Kirby said, sidestepping a question about whether layoffs are planned.

``We'll make an announcement once we make a decision on that," he said.

If this is the case ($700 pp to break even) then U, as well as most other carriers, should just close their doors and now. Because there is no way that leisure travelers are going to pay that much per person to fly from Pit to Orlando rt to take the kiddies to the Mouse's House.

It just isn't realistic. Customers have been spoiled, and rewarded time and time again for NOT purchasing tickets when they are high and waiting for them to come down. The only problem is in this case if the airlines hold out then they will probably go bankrupt first.

I tried listening to it. But the audio was all scrambled and sounded like the chipmunks? Anyone else run into this?

No Chipmunks. Just one old beaver and one old badger, a company parrot, and the One Trick Pony.
This explains why the workers are eating kibble.

Seymour always makes a ass out of himself and once he gets the floor it always goes down hill from there - nothing new
