Seniority Challenge Greets Us/hp Merger

ClueByFour said:
As posted elsewhere in this thread and other places HP is the acquiring entity. Your analysis is wrong.

ClueByFour,
I am not going to even get into the "aquiring airline" bit, because IT IS TOTALLY IRRELEVENT in regard to this issue. Both AWA and USAirways are AFA, and AFA Constitution and ByLaws state DATE OF HIRE seniority integration. It doesn't matter who did what to whom, we are both AFA carriers, and DATE OF HIRE is the POLICY OF AFA. This is why we have a union, this IS merger protection, and IT IS AFA IN ACTION DOING WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO.

For a proper merger to take place between AWA and US, you must learn to say "yuns". Not "y'all". That's just ignernt.  Now I must go redd up.

What is Yuns? Where did that come from? Never heard of that!

You have to understand that most of the stuff that we hear are coming from our fellow flight attendants that tells us that senior f/as from US wants to bump us out of our bases or push us down. We keep hearing that 2000 US F/As are senior to HP seniors and 80% commutes from the west coast. (I don't know if this is true or not and I dislike rumours) This really concerns us and if our MEC would just communicate with us and let us know the real and current seniority numbers, we would stop worrying.

I think I'm going to take a break from this board for a while, I don't want to lose sleep over this.

A concerned HP F/A

Please understand that the senior and former PSA Flight Attendants (That is the majority of west coast commuters) have the seniority to fly exclusive Transatlantic. Why would they give up Rome, Munich, Frankfurt, Paris (Charles de Gaulle), Amsterdam, London (Gatwick) Manchester Uk, Madrid and high season service to Barcelona, Dublin, Glasgow, Shannon and Venice. These type of trips offer a variety premium pay. There is a wide range of other seniorites that commute from the west coast. You will not see hundreds of US F/A's flock to PHX. Please just relax  US Airways employees are pros when it comes to mergers. :D

Why isn't AFA in PHX reassuring the AWA F/A's that everything will be fine for them? The US F/A's aren't going anywhere anytime soon.....THEY are content where they are at now! All they want is job security and not to have to worry about cuts, downsizing ,furloughs, etc.,. Would it be nice to live in PHX?....yeah sure, maybe but the majority of us all have homes we are vested in with families on the East Coast and are content where we are at. The West Coast commuters have been doing the cross country commute for about 10 years now and it has become a way of life for them.....like getting in the car to go to work, and besides THEY will not trade their TransAtlantic trips to fly to Omaha, Boise, and Tuscon. There really is no fear of a major influx to PHX......in fact I have yet to hear that from my fellow co workers over here.

(again with the mythical "Tuscon"... :D )
Anyway, your airline relegated us folks down here in "Baja Arizona" to all-Mesa service about four years ago...even TUCSON--Vegas! Isn't BOI another all-Mesa city as well?

I Would Like To Say Hey To All My New Collegues At HP. I Have Been Based In Philly Since 1988 And Have NO Plans To Go Anywhere! With That Said- If Miss Friend And The MEC Pres At HP Persists With Changing The By Laws, Then I Say Lets Take Our 5000+F/A's Here At US With Our $39 A Month Dues And Go To Another Union!! Add Those Apples Up!! Bye Bye AFA!!

probably....but you got my point....why give up those European cities to fly short hauls out of PHX? I can tell you right now....the senior mommas feel like they earned these TransAtlantic trips! :D

Hi to you, too!
I think that the ByLaws changing at AFA will happen right about the time we see little green men running around the earth.....no worries regarding that issue!

I have only ever heard one person say they would want PHX and they are junior..so they will not matter to any senior folks. As a matter of fact..IF AWA decides to call back the furloughees to be new hires..alot of them will stay as a junior seniority there..they wont come back to east coast. I honestly dont think the junior people even have anything to worry about. Alot of the furloughees are not even coming back. They went through atleast 400 or more just to get 40 to go backto mainline U in May. They have gone through the list MANY times to get people to go to our EMB-Division(MAA). They still only got 250 out of a couple thousand...yes you heard me..a couple thousand. Alot of the furloughed folks have moved on...so just let the cards fall..stop fighting it...We will all be ok...

Ohh so HP is not in need of another 180 to 200 FAs. That is why it has been made clear to our MEC that in January there will be opportunity for some of our furloughed FAs to come to PHX. Good to know its not because of a shortage at HP just out of the goodness of your hearts. WTF ever.
[post="303639"][/post]

AWA is currently not short on FA for the current amount of flight hours in the systerm. By January the forecasted attrition for the FA positions will call for a new FA class to begin training.

PHX? hmmmm its all about protecting the PHX base. How about US PHL base where the Caribbean service is the best in the industry not to mention the 14 cities US services in Europe? How do you propose that US protects the seniority in that base? Are you saying no one at AWA would like to go to PHL to fly "international"? DOH on a system seniority list is the ONLY fair and simple way to make this airline sucessful. Bottom line is: US is the bigger airline, once this is completed AWA stands to gain the best caribbean service in the industry, a European market that they never ever even dreamed of having, bigger planes and Star Alliance recognition all of which they could have NEVER accomplished on their own. Whether your AWA management team is in charge or not is irrelevant, the name on the side of the plane will be USAIRWAYS, your paycheck will say USAIRWAYS. Where will AWA be? It will be a memory. There is NO reason to fear what you dont understand. The f/a's at US have been through this, they know that this is NOT a big deal. They cannot come to PHX and bump you out if there are no position openings available. Just like you cannot come to PHL and bump out anyone there. You say fence PHX for 20 yrs, then fence PHL and CLT for 20 yrs. No international flying for the "former" AWA f/a's, as per their demands. Is this really how this marriage needs to start? Everyone wants this to succeed. If any AWA f/a has looked at US seniority list they will realize that the top end of the list is dwendling fast, through retirements, buyouts and those that are just quitting. Its not the end of the world. Lets put the efforts into making this the success that AWA and US mangement teams can be proud of. Not a circus.
