Seniority Challenge Greets Us/hp Merger

I don't think 20 year fence will happen anyway. It was the junior f/as that made those signs because of Fear. The Fear of the Unknown on what will happen to them once they lift the fence. They are not thinking outside the box and not seeing the silver lining and the benefits of this merger. I'm not worried, I think it would be a good change for all of us at HP. I would certainly like to transfer someday. Who knows? We might even add Asian routes in our system in the future! So stay focused and stay optimistic about our future. We should count our blessings and not our worries and the lack. :) Cheers!

^5 to you and to those f/a's that think that way. This can be an incredible marriage if given the chance, lets not turn it into what yours or whats mine, lets make it all OURS!

PHX? hmmmm its all about protecting the PHX base. How about US PHL base where the Caribbean service is the best in the industry not to mention the 14 cities US services in Europe? How do you propose that US protects the seniority in that base? Are you saying no one at AWA would like to go to PHL to fly "international"? DOH on a system seniority list is the ONLY fair and simple way to make this airline sucessful. Bottom line is: US is the bigger airline, once this is completed AWA stands to gain the best caribbean service in the industry, a European market that they never ever even dreamed of having, bigger planes and Star Alliance recognition all of which they could have NEVER accomplished on their own. Whether your AWA management team is in charge or not is irrelevant, the name on the side of the plane will be USAIRWAYS, your paycheck will say USAIRWAYS. Where will AWA be? It will be a memory. There is NO reason to fear what you dont understand. The f/a's at US have been through this, they know that this is NOT a big deal. They cannot come to PHX and bump you out if there are no position openings available. Just like you cannot come to PHL and bump out anyone there. You say fence PHX for 20 yrs, then fence PHL and CLT for 20 yrs. No international flying for the "former" AWA f/a's, as per their demands. Is this really how this marriage needs to start? Everyone wants this to succeed. If any AWA f/a has looked at US seniority list they will realize that the top end of the list is dwendling fast, through retirements, buyouts and those that are just quitting. Its not the end of the world. Lets put the efforts into making this the success that AWA and US mangement teams can be proud of. Not a circus.

Believe me....it's a bunch of junior fa's at HP that are doing all the yelling....let's ignore them and go on with this seniority by DOH and put it past us....they just fear the unknown...I'm a 19 yr HP fa and most people I speak to are ok with it....of course if it went another way they would be ok with it, but DOH is the only fair way, and I'm not only one thinking that way with AWA....ignore these junior HP fa's that don't see the big picture. And this fence for 15-20 years is so laughable I can't even talk about it....it shows how ignorant and fearful they are of the unknow...they don't seem to understand that no one can go into another base without an opening, unless we need more fa's because of more flying, but than that evens out because of more lines...

Ditto to air747. Intelligent life speaks. Let's get on with it and get over it. I haven't spoken to one flight attendant that doesn't agree that date of hire is fair, and a 2-3 year fence reasonable.

Yes it is the only fair solution, let turn this into one kick-ass airline...TOGETHER!

We're all for that! Seems that there are people on this forum who are rational and level headed...The NewLowFare, hulagirl (we need to talk about your identity--I am the original Hula Girl), and desertgal.
I can olny imagine what Doogie has in store for us in the next couple of years (more consolidation?). Should be an interesting ride

I've been here almost 5 years (HP FA), yes I hold a line. At first I was really woried about this merger, I like it more and more. Do I want to move... HELL NO!! If I have too, well we'll just see how that goes.
I think we have just enough on both sides if you want to move and there is an opening go for it, but I can tell you I'm in no hurry to do any of that Europe, Hawaii, or anything over 3 hours right now, I like my "Southwest hops" ( have two little ones at home). I wish everyone would just stop attacking each other!!
I say lets have a group hug, grab some beers and have a good time!! I say Get UP AND GET ON or get the *^*# out of the way!!

GO NEW USAIRWAYS!!!!

Im for this.

For what's it's worth...I've been with US for eight yrs. Now, that's junior....I only held a block for a minute then Sept. 11 happened. So, it was back on reserve for me. What I want you to know though, is that I'm content. I commute 3 1/2-4hrs from the southwest and have no desire to leave Philly. Even though PHX might be a little nicer commute. I was on international until the fence came down in May and now I get to do both! I am part of the lower bottom so DOH is very important to me. I would love nothing more than for our senior ma's to retire.....but they are the ones who paved the way for a job I love to do. And I am Sooo excited to see some new faces and to work with people that still want to have fun while dragging a bev cart up the aisle. We all wear Navy and Polyester, it can't be this difficult to get along....right?

HP IS the aquiring airline funded by investors. It is run by HP Team hello?? Go read this news article: [post="0"]America West to acquire US Airways with the help of Investors[/post]
The ruling allows the airline to be purchased by America West. It says purchased! Acquire ! They are calling this a merger to merge both workgroups, but in a reality it is acquiring!
To get back to the original topic, we are going to have a meeting in October and all flight attendants are encouraged to attend. It is imperative that the LEC resolves this. Thank you.

As far as I know we at U have a clause in our contract(AFA) that says If we are aquired by another carrier that our pay and benefits revert back to our original contract(Pre 9/11). I heard that to stop this from happening HP will become a Usairways owned Co. and will operate under the U certificate. Anyone have any more information on this. And just for the record you are listening to press releases about the merger. HP is not buying U. If you can prove to me that HP is aquiring U the way AA aquired TWA or Reno Air you can have your relative seniority.

Amen and I bet that is exactly what will happen. I think U is not done with merger mania and I think DOH will serve us well in the future as it has in the past.

Here is what I would like to know. I am a 15 year FA with a bid position around 1150, which is lower middle senority at HP. This senority allows me to hold weekends off and fly failry decient 2,3, & 4 day trips. Where would this fit in relative to USA FA's based in PHL,CLT or PIT. So if someone at USA could provide information regarding this it would help a lot.

Most of the FA's at AWA are afraid of our lives being disrupted. I moved all a round the HP system during the bankruptcy and do not want to move again, and do not want my quality of life to change. All the uncertainty creates fear and fear is a strong emotion and paralizing one. All of us are afraid of change in one way or another. What we need is information as what the combined senority list looks like and how all of us fit into the list before we mount the big fight.

As for DOH I am still on the fence. I really don't want to loose my senority because we are merging companies. For me it is a sense of pride in AWA. Those of us 15+ years in senority built AWA from the ground up and helped it survive bancruptcy, with all of us loosing a lot of money because we had to by stock in AWA when we started. So to me we should not be "stapled to the bottom"of any senority list no matter who or what union they are. I should be slotted in the senority list that is equtable to our terms of service. On the other side of the fence, we voted in AFA and know what the bylaws and constitution state on the merger of 2 AFA carriers. Which means we go by DOH. Which most likely keep the majority of the workforce happy and be a benefit to the new USA.

On item I forgot to mention above as to what has caused the fear to grow at AWA is that some of our crews have encountered current USA crews that have stated the they cannot way to move to PHX and bump AWA fa's. Of course this most likey does not accuratly represent USA but you know it only takes one comment to start the jumpseat wireless going in the wrong direction.

If someone from USA could respond back as to what my senority group could hold I would appreciate it. We all have a new beginning to make this company the best in the industry. With NWA and DL in bankruptcy and possible shrinking it could help the new USA to become the 3rd or 4th largest airline. All of us need to focus on working together and providing the best customer service to keep all our current customers and bring in and keep new ones. Remember with out the customer we don't have jobs... WELCOME TO ALL MY NEW COWORKERS!!!! I look forward to meeting and flying with all of you....
