Why does PSA single out PDAs unlike USAirways Mainline, or Piedmont? Why does a F/A shake his finger in my face when I tried to use my Palm Pilot when the USAIRWAYS magazine clearly lists the device as being usable in flight (after takeoff/before landing?)

The problem with this is that many people would rather DRIVE than FLY on SHORT HOPS. This is only one more straw on the camel's back for a few co workers...

If someone from management is there, please bring PSA more in line with the rest of USAirways and the FAA on this issue.

Thank you!!

How to fix it, I can't tell you. Why it happens I can.

They are taught in training as one of the FAR that PDAs are allowed ONLY when the main cabin door is open and taxiing after landing. They are going by FAR 121.306.

While there is no cause to be rude, like the F/A was to you, they are doing what they have been taught.

Also, express carriers sometimes have different rules than does a mainline operation. Not saying this is the case here, but....

How are you going to use your Palm Pilot while you a driving??? If you would rather drive over this.....

The problem is, that people don't listen....especially many first class people. They feel that turning off these devices when asked doesn't apply to them. Cell phones should be off before entering the aircraft. People have no idea how to talk on a cell phone in public. God forbid the day they allow them in flight.

This is true. I had a Mesa person chastise me for turning my cell phone on during inbound Taxi. Which is permited under US Airways rules. Which I politely told her. Then I got the "This is a different airline, different rules" speech.

This was one of the few times I got a little snippy. I told her "well my credit card reciept say US Airways so that's the rules as far as I'm concerned. I'll take it up with Consumer Affairs."

I shut it off and that was the end of it. Mesa apparently changed the rules shortly thereafter. I was on several flights on Mess up after without an issue.

A FA said the cell phone thing has to be approved for each individual airline. I flew on Republic and they aren't approved yet to have cell phones on taxi-in. They also told everyone they could not put ANYTHING in the seatback pocket, icluding magazines! Talk about bizarre?!? Must be because they are new?

PSA and piedmont should be pretty standard with mainline being subsidiaries. Midatlantic is the exact same because its same certificate, manuals, training, people etc. You probably just had a power tripping FA.

That is not totally true! When MAA started it was different with many other factors. Things are now evening out with policy changes coming as a result of the merger.

Well they wanted to make it its own airline and be the new mainline. Then they figured they could just sell/outsource the planes and not worry about the whole providing jobs to furloughed thing.

Bingo!! Power tripping seems to be a popular passtime with PSA flight attendants. Not only do they do this with PDA's, but they can be complete A-holes when it comes to cabin baggage. Lighten up PSA boys and girls. Life isn't that hard.
Really, it isn't.

Unfortunatley, it does have to be approved by the FAA. At America West, we had to do several tests with the FAA. These "tests" consisted of taxiing around the airport with several cell phones being used. Once those tests were done, HP was allowed to let pax use cell phones after landing.

But believe me Bob, I understand your frustration.

I don't know about magazines, but I will tell you that there is a new FAR which says that heavy objects, such as personal computers, may not be placed in the seat back pocket for taxi, takeoff, or landing. These rules usually arise after something has come out of the pocket, gone flying across the cabin, and injured someone.

As far as I know, magazines are ok, but have any of you seen this magazine called, In Style? It and Vanity Fair must weigh 10 lbs apiece! They should be secured in the o/h bin or under the seat also.

For PSA as far as carryon is concerned, the faa passed new rules which Psachoose to go the route of no carryon but all gate checked bags. With the weights the faa mandates this actually constitutes less weight bumped off flights, but a bigger PIA for pax for not being able to bring on anything larger than a salesman bag.
With PDAs, well it seems PSA FAA POI is a stickler/stuck in stoneage and as of yet wont approve cells or pdas over 10000 even in a/c mode to be used,, this is trying to be changed. Trust me most of the f/as hate it but they r doing their job. There r a few that think they are Srgnt. black and r a bit militant on it, and r as much a PITA for the front end as they are for the pax.

Easy solution= just smile, do whats asked, most our flights are 1 hour or so, alot spent under 10000 anyways

Approved by whom? FAA, DOT, FCC, The Duke of Destiny?

Ding, Ding ,Ding You're a winner and you didn't even know it.

Each airline is challenged to appease the government agencies before they can relax the rules. PSA just happens to be cheapskates and have applied less effort than other companies have. Did you read what Crazipilot said about carry-on luggage in the cabin?

I am so sorry to hear about your problems with PSA. We hire some horrible FAs. Our FAs make only $14,000 per year and recieve training from a group of anal-retentive crazies. Luckily, a lot of our FAs work at PSA strictly because they love the job, and those people do an amazing job with the limited support they get from superiors. However, there is also a group of FAs at PSA that have no business working on the front line with customers. It's an embarasment to have to work with these individuals.

It's an everyday thing to hear people complaining about the amount of carry on that is allowed in a passenger cabin. Everyone wants the airlines to restrict the amount. Well, hello!! At PSA we have done that. So what do we have now? Everyone complaining about the amount of carry on that the CAN'T take on board. Some people just refuse to be satisfied.

IMO I prefer the carry on policy. I HATE to stow my bags in a mainline plane. It works great to have someone take it and put it in the baggage compartment and hand it back to you on the jetway. It's like checked baggage without having to wait at baggage claim forever.
