Pittsburgh Crew Base Closure

You can talk all you want how you feel closing the PIT base won't touch you in any way. You would be lying to yourself. PIT has the most seniority in terms of years than any other. All bases will be effected regardless of where they go. From the blockholder able to work weekdays to then only being able to hold weekends, to the Flight Attendants working what ever International flights they want who will only be able to pick up what the more senior ones take, to the massive amount of reserve time that would be generated by closing the PIT base. Face it. Regardless of what base your at, you will be effected. The question is, after all this biatching... does it really matter?

You are either going to continue working or you will move on to something else. This however will effect everyone. Even eventually PHX. So with that said, let's all just see how things work out in the end...

Just my opinion...

Everybody will survive, worse things could happen. One thing is for certain, most will commute. With the exception of CLT, every other base is a hell hole.

Although being a crew member is not known for 9-5 hours or a predictable home life,
the displacements, furloughs, base closures, concessions, more responsibilities and grueling schedules are all contributors to the erosion of a long term career at an airline. That's the idea and DoUgIe has come right out and said that he wants airline employees that are not looking for a long term career. One has to wonder if this is a form of discrimination?
Just a thought.
Senior employees cost the company more money in wages and certainly in benefits.

I'm a PIT deportee too. It's a bummer but if you like to fly you make it work.

Well, some of the old airline (and union) mentality that you could be a ramper, or CSA for 30 years, buy a nice house in the burbs and put kids through college is just dumb. The job itself has a value (and it is not unlimited) and by people not moving up or on to other areas in the company but just getting older and more expensive is a bad business plan.

30 years? has america west been around that long? i thought they destroyed usair well before their 30th birthday? gripping...
and, bad business plan = any business plan DoUgIe & scooter devise

Actually there are about 350 active F/As still in PIT which would mean that if they all come to PHL, there will probably be the domino effect knocking JR people to who knows where....(LGA,BOS,DCA) ....perhaps even back to being furloughed ?
If I were you, I wouldn't be crying for the PIT people either. I'd be crying because of the way it will affect your seniority. Every one JR to us should be hoping that the PIT base stays open....this will now add 350 F/As to the commuting pool who will be bumping those JR and taking their trips they have enjoyed flying. Unless they offer a buyout, the SR PIT people are here to stay....coming to work w/ canes and walkers

BTW....Friday, October 5th from 11:00-2:00pm is the PIT Coucil 40 union meeting and they will be discussing the future of the base. I believe Mike Flores will be there also

s-b-s,

EXCELLENT point.

(Knowing how senior those 'mama's are)and(If I was one of them) I'd be taking my commuting frustration out by working a "tit" job on a Looong haul 330 out of Philly once a week.
(Bad winter wx ??) No problem, just take Amtrak, back to PIT.

Big f-in deal!

HP has what 2000 something F/As, some above us some below. It's the way the airlines work. The flying itself is not going anywhere. A couple hundred F/As just transfered from PHL to CLT. These would take thier place. It's just not that big of a deal- 2000 from PIT have already been displaced somewhere, the last 300 is not going to ruin anyone's life.
2600 plus and climbing. Unfortunately the PHX base is shrinking. UMM wonder why? cough. Philly anyone? Seems the Sandcastle isn't interested in capitalizing anymore in PHX, or even care for that matter. We have seen at least a 5% decrease in flying in the last two years. In LAS they have magically managed to make all our night flying dissapear into thin air. Moving most of the flying during the day. We have always done we'll with the redeye market, and first to start the concept in LAS as HP. Only 23 reserves based there. 250 pilots. Manage to just DHead all PHX base in and out of there so they don't have to open a base. Cheap, cheap. When all is said in done they need to reopen LAS as a FA base. Will take some congestion out of the East bases.

I still say this chick must have gotten hit by a tug in PIT to have such a bug up her a$$ about the place. Watch this.....I love Republic!! Stand back....she's going to spontaneously combust!!

I also make way more than any LCC FA, not sure about the pilots though. I consider myself a lucky yinzer getting to live in a great place with a decent cost of living.

The exact opposite is happening in PIT. People will be D/H to PIT from PHL to cover flights.

Why? To staff the 29 daily mainline flights? Someone said 39 earlier in the thread but according to .com there are 29 mainline flights. Why would a supposedly major airline need a crew base in a city with 29 flights a day? That number will probably go down too with RPA getting about 20 more 175s.

Just an example LAX has 36 mainline flights a day. That is more than PIT and not a base.

Wow...It's really disturbing to hear that some young, unexperienced, selfish, unaware and USED BY MANAGEMENT new hire would write something like this. But..They said they loved you...

You are obviously FILLED with hatred for the city of Pittsburgh and it's people. How dare you share facts such as this.

Snore.... the base is closing, the hub is not coming back. Apparently now people are dieing as well. Sorry.

Let's all have a moment of silence.

I am not sure if you're narrow-minded or what the problem is, but you really seem to be missing the big picture here. How old are you by the way?

She acts like she's 16....hey maybe she's lobjaw's FA GF in PHL who he gives all of his A&B's to.

I ran into this kind of thing when working with some of the guys from other cites. You would think they were sent to hell they way they acted, yet no one was holding a gun to their head saying you MUST be in the burgh. It's called maturity sweetheart, or lack of.
