Is there really a reason to have BOS, LGA, PHL, DCA and PIT so close together yet all ran as separate bases?

I don't know about Inflight, but the BOS and LGA pilot bases share the same Chief Pilot and Base Administrator.

(BTW, the latter commutes from PIT to either BOS or LGA every day to come to work. She can certainly empathize with the PIT flight crew and ground staff that commute to other bases.)

If things are going the way they are, Southwest will just keep taking there share in PHX and LAS, and there will be no more competition for US! Sad. Didn't I read on here they already have a great percentage of flying in and out of both hubs?! How can we continue to compete? Seems the East is really our only place to make money. I am opptomistic we can still run a great hub out of PHX and LAS, but Southwest is cutting our throat on seat by mile from what I've read!? Does anyone know the REAL statistics???
