Here is the real reality. There are indeed good jobs out there IF you have an education and if you don't there still are but landing one is a lot tougher proposition, but the point is, you can land one. I know what I am talking about. My son is young but with his level of education, his earning potential is more than a mechanic can earn at Southwest and that is just to start. A mechanic at Southwest is earning 67 grand with no overtime and a lot more with overtime, this is fact I have friends there. My point is these guys have no degrees only skills and Southwest is not the only game in town for people without degrees. You say you are looking and interviewing, then why all the panic in your posts to people of my mind set, why do we scare you? Where is your confidence? You are what management loves to love, people who are driven by fear because they can become very rich off your fears. If management had their way, we all would be gone and like it has been posted, U would be a virtual airline where the people at the top would all be millionaires. This is why unions exist, why there is even a middle class. If you fear our stance so much you better get yourself at least a masters degree or grow some courage, it's really that simple.

Nice post Cav, but just because I disagree with something does not mean panic or lack of confidence. I can disagree, just based on, I think the "shut it down" attitude is wrong, period.

I recently talked to some utility/mech folks in PHL while waiting to get on a flight. They were complaining about lack of staffing and so on...when I asked them how many similar people LUV had working a flight, their answer was, who cares....

Well guess what, that kind of attitude is not going to cut it. For the first time I have worked here, Pilots, FAs, Mech, Utility, CSAs are going work like what happens at other airlines, LCCs in fact or we will do it under someone elses colors.

It is real simple, the money is not there to support inflated staffing, extra pay, and so on. Is this being scared? NO, lack of confidence, NO, reality, YES.

Is working under conditions that the rest of the industry works under terrible, NO. And Southwest is only one airline to compare to, if we would have made changes a decade ago, we would not be the weak sister now, and could have some staying power, and with that the benefits of job security and enhancement.

It is possible that the "conceed, or the company folds" is a false dichotomy.

Perhaps another alternative is "stand your ground, and management will finally operate the airline."

After all, the former CEO himself said there are 2 cents in non-labor CASM's yet to be extracted.

I see no reason to wait another minute not to get after those costs. There is NOTHING prohibiting it.

Just a thought.
Dio,

I agree, and it is long past time that management start more effectively managing. The "former" CEO said that, and thanks to ALPA that CEO is history(with no official backing from any other group).

Let us see how quickly Mr. Lakefield moves to make changes to take advantage of this kind of thing....

THE MAJORITY RULES THE DAY. Take all your nonsensicle logic and spin that!
PB,

In the end, if given the opportunity to vote, the MAJORITY of Flight Attendants will vote in favor of the next round of concessions.

Unfortunately, because of the "Burn the Place Down" and "Full Pay to the Last Day" mantra of the IAM, U will likely be in the Chapters again shortly. Liquidation could be the outcome this time and your Nursing career is next.

It is not the IAM's fault, we did not violate our own contract, put the onus and blame where it belongs, it is US Airways Executives that made the choice to be an enemy of its own employees, not the IAM.

All you say is true, of course. But when U perishes, guess who gets the blame?

Management will say "We did all we could, but in the end Labor was our ultimate demise."

Yes once again labor will get the blame, but if anyone looks at the real cause they will see the truth.

N9,

Thank you for reminding me of my employment opportunities...my license has been active from the "jump start". See you in BK B)

N924PS, No Burn The Place Down Crowd here, I just refuse to voluntarily give management back money to use on lawyers TO STEAL OUR JOBS AWAY TO A FOREIGN OWNED REPAIR STATION!
