Are you saying the rich aren't running the government?
Think back to the days of 'let them eat cake' and thats how it works for progressive socialists if you're in with the in crowd.

So somehow you arbitrarily conclude that we are 28 because of lack of universal healthcare? Seriously? Are you that naive? Would you have a different conclusion.....say if we were number 27?Out of 224 countries, the UK ranks 28 for life expectancy. US ranks 49. Japan, Canada, France, Spain, Sweden, Italy and Ireland all rank above the UK. All the countries mentioned above have universal health care with the exception of the US.
1 in 5 Britons to live till 100
Last week, U.S. health officials released new government figures for 2009 showing 39 births per 1,000 girls, ages 15 through 19 — the lowest rate since records have been kept on this issue.
The teen birth rate for Western Europe and a few other countries is dramatically lower. In the United Kingdom it's 24 per 1,000 girls. In traditionally Catholic Ireland, it's 16 and in Italy it's 5. France's rate is 7 per 1,000. Canada's rate is under 13, Sweden's is under 8, Japan's is about 5, and in the Netherlands it's close to 4.

Would eating and health habits of the different countries have anything to do with it?
If someone who rarely if ever goes to the doctor and lives to be a ripe old age, is that because of UHC? And if someone who goes to the doctor a lot and dies at a younger age is a result of lack of UHC?
Where do you come up with this garbage?
Are you saying the quality of health care had nothing to do with it? Where did I say it was "all because" of HC? I do believe it is a contributing factor.

Im thinking the HUGE difference in lifestyle is a bigger contributing factor. If all things being equal then your conclusion would be valid. But its not. The are significant societal differences that come into play that have a bigger impact on longevity of life.I just said that we did not have health care. I never said that it was the sole cause. Again I will ask, are you saying hat quality of health care has no effect on longevity? I believe it is a contributing factor.

That is the point I was making. The lack of adequate health care is affecting our health in a negative manner. I do agree that diet and exercise do have an effect as well.
Sticking with the UK and using obesity as a general guide line. The UK is not all that far behind us, at least not enough to explain the difference in life span in my opinion. They have far more smokers per capita than we do as well.
heath status
Theres plenty of adequate health care available. I think you are assuming that the lack of free health care is the problem. The quality of the health care is best in the world.
Yes we do have some of the best care in the world. How ever if you do not have the money or health insurance, you do not have access to that health care. Do you want to go to a county hospital or UCLA, Mayo, Baylor, Cedar Sinai. There are some county hospitals that give some great care but I would feel much safer in the other ones.
I had a hernia and I had insurance. Still cost me over $3k. Non-insurance cost was about $10k as I recall. Someone who cannot afford insurance cannot afford $10k for life saving treatment. County hospitals usually see people who have waited too long and need emergency treatment. Since my hernia was not strangulated county would not have taken me.
Preventative health care is far less expensive than emergency treatment. Nothing is free. We are all paying for the health are provided to those who cannot pay. I would rather pay less. Since we are not a country that will just let people die because they cannot afford to pay. So we will treat them. I would rather see a system where everyone pays a percentage (out of the income tax) for health care. Everyone gets to go for preventative health care. If you want to pay for your own doctor (think private school) they are more than welcome to do so but just like public school (everyone can go) public health care will be provided to everyone. No public schools are not perfect they are quite good in some districts.
Marie Antoinette was a socialist before socialism?
Or did you mean progressive socialite?
