These bugs are just like us. Just as smart as we are. They want to study us. They want to know what makes us tick. They want to know our likes and dislikes. In short: they want to know about us... so they can KILL US!

Oh wait...this isn't Starship Troopers.
I F'N HATE BUGS.
And stale pretzels.

 I totally kept it on topic.

I was thinking some more about the $0.03 savings on not serving pretzels.

If every customer carried a 8oz. bag of peanuts, would that extra weight burn more than $0.03 of fuel per 500 mile fight at current fuel prices.

If so, why cut it out and have passengers carry more weight so the plane will bur more fuel.

Just the high cost of being cheap

You have a good point. The question is whether the airlines have passed the point of no return with economy customers who have been warned, and even now trained, to bring whatever they need to eat with them and the weight is now already there.

They need an overhaul, and they need it now. Recofiguring planes to lower capacity (reduce weight, supply, increase yeilds, and providing more legroom) would be a good first step

If that was the case, Midwest Airlines (Best Care in the Air) would be making money hand over fist. As it is they are struggling just to hang in there a little longer and have gutted much of what they were known for. As long as most tickets are purchased over the internet and no one has any particular loyalty to an airline (a wallet full of FF cards) then the airlines will have to cram as many people in and charge them as much as they can get away with.

If there was something that would entice the majority of customers to pay a premium for, the tide would turn. The internet ticket distribution eliminates that premium potential.

I guess I did my part. On my return from LAS last month, I had a bag of spicy cashews and a bag of peanuts. Between them, probably at least 8 oz total. On the way out to LAS, I also had a baggie of craisins/cashews that I brought from home. I can't eat the pretzels (at least the ones that US provides) due to my corn allergies, so eliminating them doesn't bother me. I always bring my own snackage.

Well, well, well I hope AA charging for ALL yes ALL checked bags ($15.00 each) will cause as much of an outcry as the pretzels being removed here. Cutting is cutting and nickel and diming is nickel and diming. Are they desperate or simply trying to cover what they can't in fares to cover fuel? Hmmmm With that being said folks get ready for more of this from EVERY airline. EVERY airline will follow through with this, oh lets call it N&D instead of nickel and diming. Until all of the carriers band together to raise the fares. If this were US charging for ALL bags the sky would be falling.

It just amazes me that everything else goes up, price to mail an envelope, food at the grocery store, utilities, GAS, rent, EVERYTHING but airfares cannot for the legacy carriers. The fares need to be raised. It's about as simple as that. I don't know who, what, where, when, why or how but ALL carriers need to do it.

My understanding is that AA does not charge people on full fare economy and US does. One of the beginnings to the end for me was that the new US, unlike every other major carrier did not recognize people who pay full Y/B.change fees on super high fees by the new US. That is nickel and diming. Removing stale pretzels is just laughable...US escapes the jaws of liquidation by discontinuing pretzels in economy...please.

This is the reason why I don't understand managements stance against our FF's. It's THE frequent flier that will carry this airline through the thick times when those Ma & Pa kettles pull back on visiting Aunt Pearl. With US catering to that sort of crowd and treating their loyal customers who pay the MAJORITY like doo doo we could quite seriously see ourselves in trouble.
