Moron Move Alert!

I do not know for a fact but I'm thinking carts aren't going away and here is why.

The folks that drive you around are to the best of my extremely limited knowledge independent contractors who pretty much live off tips. I saw every single customer on one give the guy a tip and on one I was on the guy was pretty open about tipping.

I could be totally wrong can anyone confirm?

Bob:

Electric cart drivers are not permitted to solicit OR accept tips from disabled customers. The DOT frowns upon this type of behavior.

Lots of things don't pass the smell test. In PHX which is was HP now US hub of the west they use electric carts.

That's right, America West Airlines LOVES electric carts...or at least they used to: Anyone else (HP Retiree?) remember the seemingly-nonstop electric cart shuttle service back in the Sky Harbor Terminal 3 days (pre-November 1990)?
The long, sloping covered ramp between HP's South Concourse gates and the 'temporary concourse' that they built to the west of the 'real' concourse?
The "beep--beep--beep" was constant, day and night, and some of those drivers (weren't they actual HP employees?) would really let 'er rip wide open on that downhill leg...
Ah, memories! B)

That would be the "More Care Carts" and yes they were driven by a HP employee.

they're always not watching where they are going...running over your feet with their wheelchairs, tripping you with their legs in the aisles, bumping into you because they can't see...you'd think they'd pay attention more...

I can see why your airline is in the dumpster with employees like you.

I hope you never have to be older than nineteen. Old age is hell. Now I know why that youth is wasted on the young.

Along with compassion and respect.
But what else do you expect from a PAX?
(Elitist as well... )

Take Care,

I guess some people dont read all the posts or keep a scorecard of who's who. Mr USY1FARE is not an employee. Neither is JS, Pineybob, etc. Get those scorecards handy for the opening lineup.....

Look at it another way -- there are lots of airports with no carts, some of them quite large such as LGA, DAL or LAX.

LGA does have electric carts.

They're usually parked just inside Shuttle security, to the right.

There's a red-headed gentleman who is one of the drivers who has been there for years.

The answer to your question, if it was a Phl airport who said to remove the carts. NO it was the Customer Service Director who siad to remove the carts. Piney Bob Usairways employee's drive those carts in Phl. Piney Bob here is one you can speak to tempe about, makes no sense
what a bad inexperienced decision, that's the norm, would you think of anything else, these rookie HP personnel can do. bad decision one after another, seeking experience
personnel to run an airline and station that makes mega
bucks for this company..

The electric carts are being removed because the leaseholder is taking them back. (It's the same equipment lessor that is taking back our three 757s, BTW. And these carts, like the 757s, will also be going to FedEx to carry their flight crew to their airplanes in Memphis.)

BUT, NOT TO WORRY!!!!

Doogie has managed to lease (at $1300/per month per vehicle) 3 dozen John Deere tractors pulling hay wagons to replace the electric carts being taken from the PHL concourses.

Congrats, Doogie!

Well done. Go ahead and take that bonus!

Paging Electric Cart to C-29, Cancel that request, passenger going by ambulance to hospital, repeat Cancel Electric Cart C-29, Passenger attempted to walk to A28 Fell Over and going to Hospital."

And DoUgIe still plans to keep PHL as its International gateway? It is pathetic the two goofs in DC are making a mockery of this Country, now DoUgIe is proving it!

The carts are being retricted to the top of A-East where the A1 shuttle comes in and they cans still go from there to A-East gates and A-west...this was primarily a decision made by the airport director in PHL Charles Isdell(I have inside info)...he hates the carts and the damage they do sometimes to airport property...I can almost see not allowing them down B and C concourse because at midday they are so crowded you can barely walk but then something has to be done for our pax...we simply dont have enough staff to push all the wchr..we dont have the staff to work the flts let alone push a chair from C30 to the top of A concourse...this should be something US and the city works out because they are not only US pax they are also customers of the city but the city hates US and planned a future without us after the 2nd BK but we just wont die!!!!

All we can hope for is Isdell retires after the new mayor is elected and the new mayor puts someone in charge who doesnt have animosity towards us....

Must have been the PBI flight

I suspect there is a HUGE liability issue. All it takes is one kid getting run over. Excuse the Cart, please, Excuse the human

Is it Isdell in PHL that also makes the carts use a manual bell instead of the horn?

Removing the carts is discrimination against the lazy. Big deal . . .I can run faster than those carts. That's because I'm not a lazy person.

Ordinarily I don't waste time replying to these sorts of posts as it only emboldens the baiter. But I make an exception here.

In life, nothing is ever fair. Some folks sponge off of others taking at every opportunity while others are generous and giving to excess. Most of us live in between these extremes.

But with time and age, one slows down, the joints creak and ache and some folks simply can't do the things they previously take for granted. So mixed in with the altruous and the takers are folks who appreciate a break here and there as life slowly wears them down. This is related to wisdom which is lacking in youth but very plentiful with age. Humility is also an attribute that older folks acquire to round out their wisdom as they move forward in life.

Perhaps an electric cart at an aiport is a thing overlooked or a thing regarded dubiously by most of us who don't need it ( and occassionally abused by those who don't need it and should know better). But it remains very useful for those who can't keep up the pace life as they used to. US makes yet another error at PHL.

At least I'll recognize JS not only for his BS, but also for his nimble speed as he skateboards past me at the airport.

'nuff said. :glare:
