More Crew Cancellations This Weekend

All the company would have had to do is offer some incentive pay (time and a half or even double time) to crew members, and all of their trips would be covered. That would involve POSITIVE motivation, though. Instead of costing the company a few tens of thousands of dollars, it is costing the company MILLIONS of dollars. Additionally, this is causing a lot of bad will with our customers. Once again, everyone is subjected to operating in a continual "crisis environment."

Ok????
What don't you get?
I have worked here for 28 years...
Overtime will never happen for crews...
I guess I will be rolling over in my grave when it does...
why do you think I am still here....???
Cuz I still get paid my 1983 starting wage...
EOM   😛h34r:

I've worked Christmas Eve, Day, the day before and three days after. Now I want to thank those 95 plus who called in sick for the New Year. I am proud to pick up your slack. You don't hurt the company, but hurt those that may have been able to enjoy one actual holiday within the season. Happy New Year to you, hope you're all sitting home sick having Nyquil.

Guys, I'm sure some people are legitimately sick. H1N1 and the rest of it is still going around, so before you blast the employees, who ALWAYS get screwed, get mad at the company for not planning correctly.

They are short F/As in Philly today because they are sending DCA and CLT flight attendants up there to freaking sit OPR. Don't get me started on that - it's like a 10 hour duty day for 3.30 hours of pay and credit.

Geniuses.

I'm so mad right now.
Maybe if they cancel enough flights enough times they might offer some incentive pay.
My first leg is a DH today and I requested that I pick up the trip in the actual originating city. I was told NO because they werent releasing. So I have to add an extra 5 or 6 hours of soft time to this hellish trip because they won't let me pick it up at the actual airport, AND I am going to be sitting in a seat they could've given a PAX.

I will NOT take a jumpseat today if asked. Stupid planning on their part.

While I understand your discontent with the DH, your rational from paragraph one to paragraph two doesn't hold water. In pgh one you reference that it would open up a seat for a pax, which is quite correct. It made me happy to think you actually cared about the customer. But you broke your reasoning in pgh two by announcing you would not take a jumpseat (which would open up a seat for pax). Obviously you never really cared about the pax. The statement in paragraph one was essentially a means to an end, and was nothing more than rambling on. Maybe a course in reasoning at a community college would aid you in debating policies.

Dear Einstein, thanks for the suggestion. I'm good with the fact I have 2 bachelor degrees. I was venting. Maybe you should take a lesson on women - we do that when we are frustrated, and I am.
My DH has 30 seats open so it's a moot point, but ultimately I would have taken a jumpseat. I do care about the pax and I always do the right thing regarding human spirit, including actively seeking employees who commute when I non rev or DH so I can help them out by working for them.

Have a nice day.

never take the jumpseat...... That just helps them..... do they ever help you????

I am sure that vaflygal was just venting, however what must be known is that she asked to not be on that flight at all, which would
have left a seat open anyway..... and she was told no, that she had to go on that flight.... she was going to meet it at it's destination and
the powers that be, said no....
and usually then, that is when she will be asked to take the jumpseat... which by the way would put her in the way of the working crew.
We don't like to deadhead..... it's unproductive.... and redundant.

Contractually crews are NOT required to take a jump seat when DHing. If the company is going to throw the contract in our face for little stupid things like making us take the DH when we could have joined up with the 1st working leg; then darn right I am going to use my contract to give me a more comfortable seat and to allow a fellow commuting FA use the jumpseat to get to work.

A pax seat while DHing is something we bargained for in the contract.....we gave up something to get it. So no way should we give it up.

The company forced this situation by not letting the FA join up on the first leg b/c it can; and the FA should take the pax seat b/c he or she can...the FA earned it in their contract. If the company was reasonable, they would have waived the contractual requirement to take the DH.

I am tired of everything falling on the FAs and pilots (an every other employee group) to make up for the company NOT being reasonable. I am sure every working employee group (that excludes anyone in management) understands about contracts and we need to respect each others contracts because we ALL get abused by this management team on a regular basis.

Well said...

Ditto!

Given the fact that they clearly view Customers & Employees as the enemy I feel that it is incumbent on EVERY Employee to know their specific Contract inside and out and use it to your advantage EVERY WORKING DAY, just as I use the Contract of Carriage when I fly.

I LOVE rules! Mostly because there are very few I can't work around or bend. In order to do that you have to know your contract

If I were a F/A deadheading and I was entitled to a seat there is no way I would take a jumpseat as long as DP has a hole in his arse. Frankly, I wouldn't give a fat rats rear end if little Timmy got to see Mickey or not. US Airways signed the contract, let them be held accountable for their actions as it's THEIR FAULT that little Timmy didn't get to see Mickey, not some poor working stiff who is under paid & under appreciated.

Although I agree that everyone should KNOW THEIR CONTRACT, why does every bad thing in our contract get blamed on the company? If I am correct, there was another party at that negotiating table...AFA. And we the membership ratified it. When the dust settled and you saw what was actually in that contract, I would suggest that AFA threw us down the river. Everyone complains that the company won't pay better holiday wages....well they are only honoring what is in our contract. I believe our union officers are more concerned about getting paid without flying than actually making our working conditions better. Just my observation. I just don't get bent out of shape over all of this....go to work, go home and call it a day. The good old days are long gone and won't return in our lifetimes!

They are junior assigning FA's in PHX now. Something like 20 cancelled flights due to "no available FA's". Lines at the passenger assist counters are out of control. Over 100 sick calls today.

Crappy pairings+horrible bids+low morale+some people who really are sick = flight cancellations. Saw this coming a mile away. Surprised it didn't happen sooner.

They are offering volunteer fly pay (125%) for tomorrow and the next day as well. This is going to be a loooong weekend for some folks and I feel bad for the passengers. Not the best way to start the new year. 🙁
