Mid-atlantic Airways

Yes, the "mesa issue" was with CRJ-700s that were supposed to go to our PSA subsidiary. However, management decided to get CRJ-700-705s (?), which were basically CRJ-900s with 70 seats. It would be like buying an A320 and putting 50 seats on it and claiming its an RJ. So, when they were called out on it by ALPA, the company decided to buy actual CRJ700s, but give them to Mesa, presumably as a gift for keeping thier labor costs down to $60 a month. <_<

The EMB 170s have always been slated for MidAtlantic Airways, which initially was to operate on Potomac Air's old certificate (which was to to become DCAir). Now apparently, MDA will operate a division on the mainline US Airways certificate (although I've not seen this actually confirmed). This is why there are questions about the Express titles, that clearly are not a good marketing tool.

Not even close to a good example. Not that it matters anymore, but the CRJ 900 was made AFTER the CRJ 700-705. Infact the certification for the CRJ 900 was done using a CRJ 700-705.

Bored to Death-
You are correct on the Canadair, thanks for the clarificiation!

As for DCAir, I remember them starting Potomac as "the fourth wholly-owned" that would spin off into DCAir with F100s (I think?). I have a friend who was a captain for them. Allegheny, Piedmont and PSA were supposed to be acquired by ACA (yikes!!!!!)... This was around the time that they got real desperate to get the merger passed and AA started getting involved with the 757s, MD80s and bizzarely, "half of the Shuttle". I dont remember anything else about PSA but I could be wrong.
Wow, that was all only about three years ago, but what a different time it was.

All,

Today I recieved an "official" rendering of the Mid Atlantic livery for use in presentations and such. I'm going to try to share it but, this is my first attempt at posting a pic so here it goes....

Yipes! Do we even have a marketing department? Someone, go check.....
The previous poster was correct about PSA's certificate going to DCAir. I saw the copy of the SEC application at that time. That news precipitated a search for a new flying job. Silly me, I went to Mainline.
Well, that was all for naught. They used Potomac's certificate, PSA is still around and I am back at square one.
These next few years should be even more interesting!

Boy, I find this really confusing. If Mid-Atlantic is operating on US Airway's certificate, how can they call it "Express?"

Can they do it the other way around?

Why call it "Express?" I don't particularly care, but it just seems confusing.

Maybe that will help them "Express" a mainline station?

It is a 70 seat jet airplane.........why even have the word express on it. When we flew the F28's they didn't say express on the side. Where do you draw the line? 30 seats? 50? 70? 90? When you put the word Express on the side you are already skewing the customer perception.

They should write on the side -

US Airways EXPRESS operated by Mid-Atlantic Airlines, a subsidary of US Airways and yet another member of the US Airways Group. That would clearly show our passengers what their getting into.

I think all the airlines domestic operations are becoming "Express."

You folks are fools to believe that because it says Express people will get all freaked out! Bottom line, the ones that may get freaked are your once a year travelers that buy there ticket on the internet for 27.00 bucks and then end of complaining on every leg of there journey. But so what to them... Thats not our bread and butter.
What Biz travelers want is good service (which they are not getting now), on time departures, travel perks, and and quiet comfortable ride.
They don't walk out to an a plane and lose there mind cause it says Express. Most don't like seeing props, and soon that will change.
When we (piedmont- Dash 8) did point to point in florida the business travelers loved our service. On Time, Good Service, and didn't care it said Express. And the flights were always full.
Should MDA airplanes say express? Depends on the flying they will be doing! But to get worked up about they Express name is a joke. (But then again, the pay rates are Lower then Express) Hmmm, I will sit back and think of a new name for Mid Atlantic..
