Mid-atlantic Airways

The EMB-170 will be painted as an "Express" aircraft.

It will be hard to tell this product from other express aircraft other than the size of the aircraft - No doubt the 170 is a large aircraft.

I thought that MDA is to have "Mainline Paint". In order to fool our pax that they were on a big jet.

Exactly where did you read this? We have been told by numerous people in management that it WILL NOT be painted Express. It can't be if they are certifying it under the mainline certificate. Plus, in an edition of "Update" last spring there was a computer generated picture of the EMB170 and it was not Express.

What's the difference between Express paint jobs and Mainline's besides that word "Express" being on it ?

Let’s us ponder…..

Why is USAirways starting ANOTHER express group…??? Don’t we have enough express groups which either are owned or operated by USAirways..??

Why wouldn’t USAirways feed the new RJ’s to the existing groups..?? Why would you spend millions of dollars starting up something you already have…??? (at least 3 I know of)

Why would you announce a new carrier, buy A/C, hire people and then say “Wait, we aren’t sure about where this new carrier will be based atâ€â€¦.!!! They thought of everything but that…??

In my opinion, MDA will be the next USAirways Mainline. Meaning, U will go away slowly and all assets and slots will become MDA’s property. It might take 10 years but eventually U will look a whole lot different. (excuse me…MDA will look a whole lot different)…!!

I can hear it now; MDA welcomes you to Rome, Italy. My name is Bambi, and I earn $8.50 an hour…!!!

US Airways computerized pictures of the EMB-170 do not say Express. The simply say US Airways in the mainline paint job.

Chip

I could make a picture of an EMB-170 which says All American Airways on it if you'd like and pays mainline wages, well maybe not the wages part. My point is that there isn't any difference to the paint jobs other than the extra word Express.

I believe the EMB 170 series of aircraft will revolutionize the way RJ / SJ's are percieved in the industry. Just look at WN and B6 interest in these aircraft. I just wish the pay rates would be revolutionized as well :D
I agree. The EMB-170 aircraft will change the RJ/SJ industry. The cabin on this aircraft will far exceed the current RJs in comfort, and will probably be better than a mainline jet. Assuming no unforseen circumstances in the performance of this airplane, it will be a winner and you will see all the majors flying it within 5 years.

If they are certifying it under the mainline certificate CWA mainline will work it. Right???? It will count in the 2 mainline flights a day needed to keep a station mainline.

Chip,

My point exactly...

MDA will be the new mainline carrier....!!!

All of my above remarks show how Dave is gonna shink the real mainline into a Comair on steroids...!! :( :( :(

I have seen a picture of the aircraft with express on the side of it. It also says "operated by Mid Atlantic Airways on it by the main pax door. This picture was from the factory, during constuction. It is a good looking aircraft.

Smatest Loser;

US Airways has a contractual obligation to have a mainline fleet of 279 aircraft.

MDA will have 85 EMB170 and/or EMB-175 aircraft by September 2006, therefore, the combined Mainline/MDA fleet will operate 364 aircraft.

Mainline will operate 77% and MDA will operate 23% of the combined fleet.

In addition, in this months Air Transport World article, Dave Siegel said the company will expand European service to 20 destinations.

Respectfully,

Chip

20 destinations?! Any ideas which cities? I would be shocked to see this happen in the near future, but crazier things have happened I suppose.

Would you be nice enough to post or send us the link to this picture or do you remember where you saw it? I just find it interesting that all the posters and pictures U has put out didn't have express on it and you said this was a picture directly from the factory floor. Thanks

No unfortunetely I got rid of it, I never thought that it would be an issue. I will try and get another one from the guy that sent it to me. I dont know where he got it but just the picture was sent to me.
