Mid-atlantic Airways

Huuuuum. Well...I may stand corrected. This decision must have been changed from the drawing and other items that were published a few months ago. I can't read the writing near the doorway. Are we 100% sure this is EMB for MAA?
Chip any comments?

So, now that we know the airplane says "EXPRESS" how does that change the mainline furloughees perception of it?

I am not furloguhed....YET...but, this doesn't change my perception of anything. MAA wages are worse than Express. It's an airplane but I am just curious as to why it says Express when it was not supposed to a few months ago.

This does seem really confusing. Could it be that Embraer put together this plane back when U was considering making Mid-Atlantic a separate company.... you know from the old Potomac certificate?

Does that fuselage look right, considering the 'double-bubble' design of the 170?

It says Express because MAA will have working conditions equal or less than existing Express carriers. They want the passengers to know that it's not a mainline operation. Kind of what those CREW ID's that just showed up have done.

Smatest Loser;

US Airways has a contractual obligation to have a mainline fleet of 279 aircraft.

MDA will have 85 EMB170 and/or EMB-175 aircraft by September 2006, therefore, the combined Mainline/MDA fleet will operate 364 aircraft.

Mainline will operate 77% and MDA will operate 23% of the combined fleet.

In addition, in this months Air Transport World article, Dave Siegel said the company will expand European service to 20 destinations.

Respectfully,

Chip
Chip,

Sorry you drank the cool-aid.

The fleet size, the percentages and the new desinations can be turned on it's ear if certain outside factors hit. (Goverment loans come due, Strikes, Fuel....ect)

Those are the plans Chip your right about that but is it reality..!!! My answer is NO.

Mid-Alantic Airways will be the down fall of Mainline. Why do you think USAirways wants it soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Bad.  :( :p

US Airways computerized pictures of the EMB-170 do not say Express. The simply say US Airways in the mainline paint job.

Chip
Chip,

I lost my glasses can you read the name in the picture for me....?? ;)

Don't worry, you fell into the same trap all of us have from time to time...

"You believed what USAirways told you".

Wow!

That picture looks a little suspect... I agree the fuselage doesnt look right. I've also seen US Airways DC10s and Piedmont A320s on the net. Its amazing what you can do with Photoshop. But then again the MidAtlantic logo makes me think its real, but the absence of any other photos of EMBs in US colours anywhere makes me question it. Who knows.

I would be surprised if it says Express, because management is determined to blur the lines. If they could it wouldnt say Express on all those ERJ and CRJs others are flying "for us".

The term "express" makes sense if your a major airline who has a commuter partner with a handful of commuter flights. But not if youve only got a handful of mainline planes feeding a motley network of "smaller planes" (and the EMB is not much smaller) that make up a majority of your product. Its sort of like calling Diet Coke "Coke" and regular Coke Fat Coke. It just doesnt make sense. And what passenger is thrilled to find out they are on a Express flight. Especially the long ones we'll be doing. And why does management keep cackling on about it being a division of mainline? Oh... they meant a division of mainline employees into two groups: the tormented senior folks who they figure will be gone soon enough, and the starvation wage future. Whoever said MDA is going to be the new US Airways is dead right.

As a probably soon to be MAA employee, I dont care all that much what it says on the side. Maybe they can call it WelfareJet by US Airways. Perhaps we should print Captain, First Officer, Flight Attendant and Mechanic pay scales by the 1L door for the hoot of watching peoples reactions (probably fear).

The Embraer 170/190 family is a wonderful new family of aircraft, and I too believe it will be revolutionary in the industry. Unfortunately at our airline it will be a sad revolution of airline professionals being paid at poverty level to perform the important business of flying people. Nothing good will come of it.

LY,

You my friend… have seen the LIGHT…!! (Sorry pretty corny)

Why does USAirways want ANOTHER EXPRESS CARRIER..?? Why couldn’t Dave just given the RJ’s to the existing carriers…??? Why would you spend Millions on something you already have…?? (3 of to be exact) I have already put forth these questions in a previous posting.

Nobody on this board including Chip can answer those questions. Why…?? Because it’s once again all about MONEY…!!! I have friends at most of those existing carriers and they top out about 5 dollars less than mainline. But, MDA employees…I’ll bet they’ll top out at 10-12 dollars LESS than mainline. :(

Example: Mechanic with mainline $25.00 an hour ……..Mechanic with Mid-Atlantic starts at $ 11.00 an hour. Top out for this has yet to be set but rest assured it will be in the low teens and it will take at least 8 years to reach. (Heck, their purposed agreement even has language stating the company can cancel your vacation if THEY chose…What a crock.) Didn’t they do that in Vietnam to the POW’s…?? Act like they were sending them home and at the last minute jerk them back to the prison camp…!!

I’ve had it with lies and this constant being in fear of losing my job. Things have to change, until then I will question everything….!!!

I do recall that ALPA had a bit of a problem with Dave a short while back.
ALPA had agreed to a certain number of seats for the RJ's and Dave went ahead and bought some jets with a **greater capacity** than was agreed to......go figure. And when ALPA hit the roof over the issue Dave said he was going to assign the jets in question to MESA.....thus the Express name tag on the jets. I think this should explain why the wordmark is what it is for this group of birds.

If you haven't figured it out yet, Dave is the Master of the "Bait-n-switch" and EXTORTION is the key component of his negotiating tactics

I will NOT work for MDA for the exact reasons noted by SMARTEST LOSER. I rather change careers after 20 years in this field before I support the downfall of my profession......period. There IS life outside of aviation.

People have short memories and have become conditioned to accept any crap forced upon them by PIRACY, INC.....aka: Dave & Dave. Count me out!! At least my integrity and respect will remain intact.

Just something to think about.

E-TRONS OUT.

The issue mentioned above with Dave and ALPA had to do with CRJ-705's, not EMB-170's. The EMB's were always slated exclusively for MDA.

Mesa is getting the Bombardiers which were originally slated for Express.
