I'll admit I wasn't sure how I felt about it at first, but it has grown on me--a lot.  It does make our legacy scheme look very old and out of date, in fact it's hard to believe it is a one generation change in paint jobs.

The problem as I see it is the paint will be expensive to maintain. The grey or silver(whatever you want to call it) is a three part process. As for the tail, every day I see a plane in the hangar with the paint missing or peeling off. And when a plane gets damaged it is impossible to paint. You might notice a 767 flying around with a grey rudder on a new AA flag tail because of damage.

Let's just ask WT...This way he can tell us how great Delta's livery is and how wonderful they are at everything thing they do and whatever  is just the cat's meow and how AA/US are nothing compared to the awesome Delta and it's because of their livery that AA/US can never compete with the awe inspiring mother of all airlines Delta!

Back in the pre-Stephen Wolf days at USAir, the fleet (except for the F28s) was also bare-skin, polished aluminum.  The question was asked of CEO Ed Colodny (or some other top manager) about paint vs. polish.  We were told that the studies were done and neither has any advantage over the other.  Painted airframes last longer, need less maintenance (due to less corrosion and wear) and can be kept looking nice with a wash job and not a labor intensive polishing.  The disadvantage of paint is the higher weight and commensurate extra fuel burn to carry that paint everywhere.  But, we were told, the bottom line cost, taking everything into account, was a wash.

Those numbers were run over 20 years ago figuring highly-paid IAM mechanics doing the work.  Today, if they can use day laborers, retrieved by pickup truck each morning from the corner of Spoleto & 8th St, to do the polishing, maybe the bare skin would be cheaper???

Change it ALL. Tail, dull gray paint and the Greyhound logo. It all looks bad. It is garish, obnoxious and loud! Just what Europeans think we Americans all are. It is TERRIBLE! Let it leave with Horton as his backside is pushed out the door. I do however think that the clowns at Centreport were smart by doing the biggest and most expensive planes first. It will make one second guess repainting when the wasted costs are revealed. Shame on Tommy Boy and the rest of the gang. Ride out and leave this debacle behind for others to clean up.

Better yet just paint all the aircraft in dl colors of the 80s paint all the ua planes of dl colors of the late 90s n holy cow youll have dl conquering the usa :)

The piano key tail design needs to be more subdued, otherwise it reminds me of Rhapsody in Blue (United's theme song) and I begin to whistle.

Not a great idea for marketing the New American brand.

I'm sure it's just me.

P.S. The new eagle looks like a bow tie painted by Picasso.

I'm sure it's just me.

AMTs do not polish (buff) or paint AC at AA. AC cleaners buff and OSMs paint. Last I looked..they start out at $9 an hour.

OSMs do not paint. That work is all outsourced.

So no OSM painter has ever touched up an AC w/ the new paint scheme? OSMs do paint the old (better) AA theme. Thanks for clarifying that the TWU/AA sourced it out.

What ever Paint is on the Aircraft I hope that YOu realise that the Paint is being paid for out of your POCKET.

Pension, hr pay, vacation, holidays, how much more are you willing to give up so the exec's can rich while our medical goes up and pay goes down.

Wake up ladies and gentlemen, Boeing and the contracted out paint shops are painting the aircraft NOT AA mechanics.

THE OLD AA is Gone just wait until you all see the NEW AA and NEW TWU.
