What's new

Man the lifeboats...............

Look at the attached, Frank. Maybe a little worse for the wear than others, but it's still tracking pretty close to where the other guys are. On a percentage basis, you could argue that AMR looks worse because it's at a lower value in comparison to the guys who wiped out all their existing equity...

The chart would have been more helpful had the graphics been of like kind - even a plot through the center of the high/low chart of AMR shows numerous areas where it didn't "enjoy" the same up/down motion as the average of the others, (I'm assuming "XAL" is a composite of all other airlines).

There are other factors in play here as the "investors" are a freaky group that are more rumor oriented than this board, if that's possible.

Dunno, I'm simply not hung up on stocks hitting a high or low if they're trending in the same direction as their peers (eg oil prices spike, airlines get slammed, oil prices fall, airlines get lifted). That was more like TWAFA007's deal.

When you track with the composite, hitting a new low is rarely an indictment on how any one single airline is doing.

When you start heading in an opposite direction, that's when you know something's up (good or bad).

All that said, stock price in general is a worthless measure of a company's performance. WN flatlined for years when they were profitable.

Focusing on margin and ROIC is far more interesting...

Sir E:

Read some of my other posts today - I'm looking more for a "supply" type trend - how many shares might be on the market.

Different story entirely.

AA missed estimates - exceeding the size of the loss Wall Street had been expecting which sent the stock down 7.5% Thursday.

The article also notes AA's weak revenue performance relative to its peers; UA showed positive RASM growth in every region in contrast to AA which was RASM growth negative in both its Atlantic and Pacific regions.

The DOT approved the DL-US slot swap which will further erode AA's position in the NYC and WAS markets.

Birds of a feather ,,,,,

So the next time you are stuck on a delay or cancellation you can ask yourself, "would I be sitting here if the mechanics werent pissed off or would I be on my way". The only one who would know is the mechanic, and maybe not even him.

Are you suggesting AA mechanics refusing to work overtime or perform job requirements like the UA ALPA pilots and Summer from hell (2000)? Haven't the courts even directed ALPA not to sanction job action such as large scale, organized refusal to work overtime?

At least AA mechanics haven't been caught by Faux News doing this like your UAW "brothers and sisters":

.....organized refusal to work overtime?

No where does it say in our contract that you have to agree to overtime. That does not mean that you are attempting to hurt the company. The company can paperwork you and you have to perform your duties as scheduled. You should be reassured that most mechanics work to the letter. Being a licensed technician takes the time to repair these aircraft. If a customer wants to risk him/herself then they have a choice to make. Mechanics who are happy and satisfied or those who just don,t care? I see them both every work day.

Those who remember pilot unrest in the industry back in 2000 know that UA pilots engaged in a slowdown but DL pilots - after UA capitulated - simply refused to pick up any trips.... the result was that DL's operation quickly fell apart - and it happened during the peak winter travel season. DL also capitulated but UA and DL both unwound most of the gains - and terminated both pension plans - within a couple years.

So, what are you trying to say that management retaliated against the pilots????? Old news....it happens everyday!

AA & TWU INTL are devising plans to retaliate against the AMT's after the failed T/A......stay tuned!

I wouldn't say that UA and DL retaliated... but the fact is when they agreed to contracts under duress, the company's stability eroded to the point they couldn't make ends meet when the tech bubble burst in 2001, and it only got worse after 9/11.

That's why you see AMR digging in their heels on "cost neutrality". They could have easily agreed to raises for all years ago, but it wouldn't have been sustainable.

I don't see how loosing $10,000,000,000+ in the last 10 years is sustainable but here we are still kicking.

You mean things like CS's and 7-day coverage at the base(s)? Making everyone work?

Come on Buck, you know the TWU is more in favor of you not working than the contrary, for obvious reasons.

That's been going on for a long time already. No future in airline employment.
