Machinists Union Merger Update

Scope is nice but it is not forever.. Take my word for it.. The scope language used to say Pushbacks to. Its paper and can be changed..

Right now the IBT is negotiating with AWA on their scope. They have a LOA to bring in the C check. So there is your balence right there.. Give us the S and Q and we will let you do the light C checks.. Simple as that..

They can then close down PIT and use CLT and PHX for light C checks on the Airbus fleet.

Its all in the wording.. And the IAM contract as written right now will not be the final agreement.. Dougie has been very clear on that.

The AWA people make more money than the US people.. There is another chip.. We will up everyone's pay but you have to give us the S and Q checks.. Or everyone can accept the lower pay and we will still
farm out the work.

Its all negotiations and the IAM is not the sure winner.. Not yet.. So don't think that you can spout off about the IAM contract being "the way it is".. You would be sadly mistaken. Negotiations, Negotiations..

If Dougie was smart, he would find an empty hangar in the middle of Nevada and say "There is where the S check is going to go". And when no one bid it he could farm it out. Pretty simple. All they need is a building. Does not have to be in PIT, CLT, PHX or any other place on the route system. You said so yourself.. Keep it in perspective.

Wow I would have hoped the IBT would have trained you better and educated you.

See the scope language you talk about has been tested in court and won by the IAM until an Appeals Court threw it back to arbitration, and guess what? The IAM won in arbitration also, and since the IBT has failed to educate you let me. See when scope language is tested in arbitration and won by the IAM it is precedent setting and if the company tries to violate an arbitrator's decision and order the IAM would go back to court and get an injuction against the company as this language has been tested all ready and the arbitor's decision is final.

Heaven help your HP mechanics if you don't even know about the grievance procedure and arbitration under the Railway Labor Act.

Amen,
During the last negotiations at SW. The company was pushing for bringing more work in-house and ease up on the pay and benefits, but increase some jobs. The mechanics group, in many more and better words told them, keep the work, we'll take the money and look how much they are making. A wise choice, I think?

Here is an interesting part of the IAM's new contract.

"Grievances: All non-termination and non-suspension grievancers filed prior to the Petition Date are deemed withdrawn and additional filings for the same issue are prohibited."

Do the members know what is in their new cotract? Dang Mr. 700 there is a lot of things being taken away from the members of the IAM at US Airways. What the heck happened?

Maybe you have not read his posts (as if that's possible). They have scope language, scope language for heavy maintenance. Don't worry about the other 200 pages.

I would base my vote on the financial and quality of life issues. Not on who or where the heavy mtc. is done.

Good choice fixer

I must confess PITMTC I have not read all of Mr. 700's posts. QUANTITY of the posts does not equal QUALITY of the posts. Sorry, I'm getting off topic.

I agree with that point but lets looks at another issue that will be facing the majority of AWA current mechanics...yes the money and security is nice but take away the overhaul and all the jobs associated with it, and judging by their senority many of those persons will no longer work for the "new" company. And by the way that includes a fair number of managment personnel as their services will no longer be required.

You bring up some valid points. And I don't envy the position you guys are in. One thing I learned from being a member of the IAM since 1979 is that the only person looking out for your best intrest is yourself. The IAM sure isn't.Their going to watch out for their best intrests, number of dues paying members. And they don't care where the heavy mtc gets done, PIT, Montreal, where ever, as long as its done by dues paying members.

doug cares nothing about the awa people. if he did then he would have protected them. all he cares about is making the us air people happy. he wont even meet with the techs. I think this merger was a big mistake. techs being told all heavy mx going back east and that phx will be another out station. supervisors are running scared. busting on guys for sick time. wont negotiate in good faith, sending people to the tables that will be leaving in the new year. what a joke!!!!! you think doug will negotiate with IAM fairly wake up!!!!!!!!! i bet this new airline will be in chapter 11 or 7 within 2 years.

let me say one thing all the clowns and ballons in phoenix isnt going to save your jobs. stick doug before he sticks you. shut the f#$^er down. I believe that the techs in phx had a sick out last week and caused numerous cancellations. sup's were wondering why the techs were so upset. 2 years and still no new contract. the techs are told he will let the 2 unions fight it out. let me say if he wont meet with awa techs he sure in the hell wont meet with the IAM. wake up and smell the coffee!!!!!!!!
