You'll get use to that mentality with the IAM. I recall years ago with America West being represented by the TWU and the JCBA vote where many on these boards called for America West agents to reject the agreement because of our "industry leading scope", which was one mainline flight a day.
Never mind that America West starting pay was $7.50/hour and it took 6 years to get to $10/hour and topped out a $14/hour after 13 (?) years-- not to mention that part-timers had no health insurance benefits for family members. Why would the company need to contract out that cheap labor? But we were told to hold the line and ignore the "wage bait" for an additional $5/hour (along with family health insurance benefits for part-timers) when US agents with the IAM were already earning closer to legacy airline industry standard pay and benefits.
