I see it everywhere, in every sector. Only major Union is see looking forward is the AFA. If we don’t adapt, we die.

I think seriously you need to get off Social Media and get out of your community and check out some other cities where things are happening.

Seriously. (But that’s a subject for a separate thread)

...or a union like the IAM who has never met a concession they didn’t like or help the company achieve.

AS SEA where the IAM didn’t get the jobs back and now has that work performed by dues paying low wage McGee?

Multiple rounds of concessions at USAIS, UA, TWA, destroying careers of thousands at Eastern, SEA AS ramp, UGE, McGee should I go on?

Josh
keep blaming unions etc is old you forget mgmt. is the largest screw ups at these companies EA went out due to piss poor mgmt. TW was broke and AA finished them off AS mgmt. put the screws to employees even though I believe IAM did win that SEA issue

And yet the AFA is broke and had to become part of the CWA to survive.

They barely bring in enough dues money to pay the bills.

I know as a fellow Oregonian you like her, as does Weez who has called her a “union rockstar”.

That said, she was only hired in 1996, barely 20 years a significant portion of which she has been an international rep and MEC level rep in BOS.

She has clearly been effective at self-promotion but also likely got very lucky being in the right place at right time with long time International President Pat Friend retiring after the (third) failed DL drive and then Veda having a fairly briefly tenure as international president by comparison.

I always enjoy hearing her self promotion on media stories-she never seems to shy away from the attention both on traditional media and social media.

if the buyouts were generous, why not? if the company offers ridiculously meager buyouts, then they should never complain about dead weight.

the company is offering 1 yr. pay to leave? 35-40 yr veterans will fall out of bed making $80+k with an easy shift. they aren't going anywhere. i'm thinking $125k, the constipation at the top of seniority lists will be alleviated.

i don't understand the company's logic, especially when buyouts can be written off?
Notsure about write off,why not offer everyone a milloin then

Any union with members participating in a DC plan better be imploring members to take full advantage. They also need to be pushing for the max fixed contribution.

Kev3188,

If and when that time comes, I have already been planning on doing that. Back when I was AW and we had match, I pushed people to it, will do same again by showing the math. My plan would be to show how one could retire by 65 at the latest and be a millionaire.

But the jobs never came back. So then the award isn’t worth the paper it was printed on. Sorta like 700s acclaimed Airbus arbitration where the work never came back?

Excellent. I hope others will follow your lead.

Any chance the members will see a united IAM/TWU front at the earnings meeting in Dallas later this month?

And in regards to AS. The arbiter ruled AS was wrong and ordered restitution but not the jobs in SEA.

The IAM won the Airbus Arbitration.

One of the reasons US filed bankruptcy to get out of the Airbus Arbitration Award which was around around $400 million and bring back 600 maintenance and related employees.

The court threw their contact and the final offer allowed unlimited outsourcing.

The Airbus overhaul was being performed in PIT and outsourced.

The 2008 CBA only let them outsource 50% of billable hours of heavy maintenance.

To this day Airbus overhaul is done in CLT, PIT, and vendors on the LUS side.

AA has $23 billion in debt and $9 billion in the bank.

Wall Street is not happy about that.

They spent $10.3 Billion to buyback 37% of AA stock since 2015 and not paying down debt.

Delta on the other hand is down to $7 billion in debt and about $7 billion cash on hand and a $2.5 billion unused credit line.

AA’s debt to 6.83 at the end of last year and Delta’s was .64.

Huge difference.

i don't argue the gist of your post..

...aa has double the cash on hand than dl does.

when dl needs to spend $10 billion to update and upgrade their fleet, will you warn us about dl's debt?

I’ve been asked myself and I’m going to ask you too now robbed. Why do you entertain this individual? Why do you entertain Tim?

Neither of those two have our best interests in mind.

this issue was talked about before, i do believe it is a write-off.

if aa offered everyone eligible $1 million to leave...it would cost a lot more than $125k and aa would find itself seriously short of mechanics & fscs. not realistic.
