Info On Psa Pilot Agrement

US Airways reported on theHub.com, "The Master Executive Council (MEC) PSA's pilots union early this morning ratified an agreement that resolves all outstanding contractual issues to operate the 70-seat Canadair CRJ-701 regional jet aircraft. The agreement was ratified by an eight-to-one vote and becomes effective immediately. PSA, a US Airways Express carrier and a wholly owned subsidiary of US Airways Group Inc., has been the sole operator of US Airways' CRJs, and currently operates 26 50-seat CRJ 100-200s and four CRJ 701s. "I want thank the MEC for their hard work in reaching this extremely important agreement, as it will bring benefits to our pilots, our company and most importantly our customers, and it is a wonderful airplane to fly," said Richard Pfennnig, PSA president and chief executive officer. In addition to the regional jets, PSA also operates eight Dornier 328 turbo-prop aircraft, which are being retired from their fleet. By Sept, 7, 2004, PSA will be an all regional jet airline.

According to the July 24 US Airways ALPA code-a-phone message, the PSA MEC ratified their large SJ agreement by a vote of 8-1. This ratification cleans up the unresolved items of Attachment C in LOA 91, specifically establishing a mechanism for a pay rate for the blended operation of 50- and 70-seat aircraft at PSA, as well as establishing a monthly bidding system that provides for alternate bidding of lines of time and reserve lines in all domiciles for both PSA and US Airways pilots.

Moreover, the PSA MEC code-a-phone reported the MEC had an emergency MEC meeting on Thursday, July 22 and ratified under duress because Piedmont was within a day or two of signing an agreement to take the CRJ-700's and remaining CRJ-200 orders from PSA. Specific details are on the PSA MEC code-a-phone at 800-4JTSFLY-MEC, which provides a very interesting view of the new agreement between US Airways, PSA, and its pilots.

LOL, Mainline ALPA plays PSA like a Fiddle...... OMG... Lovely, race to the bottom...

PDT ALPA did the same ... so much for unity.

So has US ALPA agreed to let PSA operated the 700s? What happened to these going to Mesa?

Don't you mean when he said they were going back to Bombardier or the leaseholder as PSA was parking them and they were they were flying DAY-CLT-TPA as he said they are parked?

Bend over, here comes ALPA. I'm just glad that we never caved in and allowed US Airways pilots to come into PDT and take over.

Just one more point…

The new PSA CRJ-700 LOA makes the "wholly owned" carrier more attractive for sale since potential J4J obstacles have been resolved. US Airways does not want to sell PSA, but the company may be forced to sell non-core mainline assets to help US Airways Group boost liquidity/reduce debt and survive.

Sounds like a good deal for the J4J guys,

The most senior of the J4J (say in the top 12% at the present time) will become extremely senior at PSA if I'm understanding this correctly.

Seems like a lousy deal for the PSA guys but i'm pleased for the furloughees.

Wouldn't it all be easier if they would just assign these guys their US Airways seniority numbers, fence them off for 5 or 10 years, and let everyone bid where they may?

What a convuluted mess this J4J, MAA, flowthrough, flowback, fiasco has become.

The original idea was simply to provide jobs to those pilots who were furloughed as a result of the parking of the DC9, MD80, F100, 737-200 and the acquisition of $4.4B of RJs. Surely there must have been a better way...

PSA ALPA Pilots Reach Agreement on 70-Seat Jets
Monday July 26, 8:33 am ET

DAYTON, Ohio, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The PSA Airlines pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), International, late last week approved a letter of agreement (LOA) with their management, spelling out the terms and conditions for operating 70-seat jets. By a vote of 8-1, the pilot leadership ratified the proposal.

"We are extremely pleased to reach a settlement with our management for this aircraft," said Capt. William Barnett, secretary-treasurer of the PSA pilots' unit of ALPA. "We want to see PSA prosper and grow. The operation of these larger jets will help us to provide better service and coverage for our portion of the US Airways network."

The LOA provides for the extension of the 50-50 staffing ratio, as outlined in the Jets for Jobs protocol with US Airways and its pilots. Under this arrangement, furloughed US Airways pilots are entitled to fill half of the positions assigned to this aircraft, per the limitations of this agreement. The PSA pilots will staff the remaining half of these positions. The LOA also provides positive reserve rule changes and other quality-of-life improvements for PSA pilots.

ALPA, the world's oldest and largest union of airline pilots, represents 64,000 pilots at 42 carriers. Visit the ALPA website: http://www.alpa.org.

Sorry that just makes too much sense!
[The same has been suggested for station staff; a number were displaced form mainline to PDT/ALG durning the many rounds of station closures. (This was before the creation of mainline express...not to be confused with MDA.)]

I don't know about a lousy deal for the j4j guys. I would have been very happy given the opportunity to upgrade to a block holding jet captain in a year.

The problem starts with a man named Duane and ends with the people who believe the lies that come from his mouth.

On the contrary, the PSA MEC Chairman played his own MEC into submission.

ALPA has taken the Whipsaw to a new level - A Chairman whipsawing his own MEC.

Don't believe the rumors and the hype. This was entirely an internal PSA whipsaw bait and switch. Nice job Hawaiian-Shirt-Man, ALPA loves someone who plays their own pilots for fools.
