If they are On Board, write em up

What do YOU think would happen? Would the gang bangers arrange a drive by on the ramp? Oooo! Look out everybody! Whatever. Get over yourself.

I was officially "Over Myself on August 4th, 2000. Thanks for asking.

What do I THINK would happen? Straight up?

IF and that's a big IF they were somehow able to identify him, they'd laugh at him on the concourse and try to goad him into a confrontation. If said confrontation were to take place at say a club nearby then he might end up with at least a bruised ego if not more

If they found out who "Snappy" was you'd see a whole lot of copies of the contract, US Safety Policy along with a very narrow interpretation of same. Ever been in the bowels of PHL airport? People can get "lost" very quickly & easily. Could take a supervisor 15 minutes to find the crew for his A/C, then it's "oh sorry, we thought you said C4, not C24". Then of course they have to work "safe" which could mean moving some stuff around in order to safely unload. I mean After all the company doesn't want any OJI's correct? Then they have policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety of the Pilot who does the walk around. It would be a real shame if someone "accidentally" slipped on an unknown fluid spill that showed up mysteriously. All this transpires and "Snappy" get's pissed and decides to writ'em up! Let's say he's flying to the mistake in the sun aka PHX, well the ramp crew has a 4 hour head start on their write up to the Chief Pilot regarding "Snappy" and his "Unprofessional conduct and breach of safety protocols"

Point of all of this is you'd best work with them because you CAN NOT work against them. Ask the revolving door of Station Managers over the years! There was a reason for the Christmas meltdown and while the DOT said it was Primarily the fault of US Management short staffing, the key word there is primarily. You can figure out the rest.

And yet...here you are.

What do I THINK would happen? Straight up?

Yeah. Straight up, now tell me... Wait, are you quoting Paula Abdul?

? Threats of physical violence? Your right, that IS hilarious. You know what else is hilarious? Watching one of your "tough guys" getting escorted out of a bar in handcuffs with tears running down his face by one of your state's Peace Officers. Meanwhile, inside.."Bar keep, another round of drinks in honor of my departing friend out there". High fives. Laughter.

You are right! Those guys are TOTALLY irreplaceable. What ever would the company do if they were suddenly in a position where they had to fire half the ramp. Wait a minute. I think the answer is coming to me...they'd replace them in about sixty seconds.

I have really sweet shoes with gum rubber soles so you don't have to worry about me slipping. However, if I do find a pool of unknown fluid, I'm sure I can have ops send one of your friends out with a bucket and a mop to take care of it. Sadly, that will cut into the "4 hour head start". Mean while, I'll take a sip of my coffee, loosen my tie, adjust the temp so it is just perfect in the cockpit, then break out my computer and get crackin' on the incident report. If it's a four hour flight, that should give me plenty of time to get it done. BONUS: If it's a 321 with WIFI, I can even send it in before landing.

Can I figure out the rest? All you've suggested so far is that the ramp is filled with violent thugs.

OK.. In truth, I'm just screwing with you because you've chosen to take the tough guy angle. At a minimum, I say "hello" to pretty much every employee I cross paths with and as shocked as they usually seem, this respectful courtesy is rare from pilots. Nearly every one of them seem like hard working, decent men and women and I have great respect for the job they do with little thanks and often in inclement weather. Honestly, I don't freak out if I show up the the gate and there's nobody waiting to marshal us in. So, sometimes we have to wait a few minutes. I know there are some serious staffing issues at many of the stations. Nobody expects the ground crews to run from airplane to airplane. If there are 4 guys doing 5 guys work, it take 125% as long as with a full crew. I can do the math. That's the company's fault and they'll have to deal with the consequences. However, trying to prohibit ME from doing MY job by using threats and intimidation to make YOUR point to the company is unacceptable to me.

Harry, He seems so upset with me! Good news is I made it to Thursday before I got pissed off at someone on line. Not a new record, but pretty good considering by Tuesday I'm in full rant most weeks.

It's also rather amusing in that "Stupid Pet Tricks" kind of way that as soon as I challenged him he went right to name calling, yet another demonstration of the maturity of a certain work group. A work group that can't even agree that the company is the real enemy and not each other. BTW how long have the allegedly stupid rampers had a joint agreement? I know you know some folks that work on the ramp in BOS near your home and maybe you could ask them?

He reminds me of the two SNL Characters that were Body Builders (can't recall their names) :D
Can't you just visualize this guy saying, "Hey you Girly Man Rampers, I'm Going to write you up"

What can I say Harry, You give some of them a multi-million dollar metal tube capable of just under mach 1 and all of their blood rushes to straight to the little head. :D :D

Yeah, good thing for you there aren't any pilots out there looking for work. I mean to replace someone as awesome as you, no way. You deserve that 3 to 1 seniority. You're my hero.

I think we need to do away with all drug test.... It's time we start checking for BRAINS!!!

I was born and raised in the PHL area and all kidding aside I'd be real careful with all of this internet bravado. You get "outed" and some of these hard core IAM types will make it their business to find out and word gets around as to which trips you take and you'll NEVER be on the gate on time or be allowed on the ramp until the absolute last moment. It will also NOT be an isolated incident, it will happen for YEARS.

You'd best learn to work with them, not try and be so all puffed up and self important as they will make your life hell on earth. The ramp is back breaking work and neither you nor I could cut it on the ramp. So why don't you make nice and show them some respect and next go around they'll bust their asses for you.

Word gets around about you & your shenanigans and you're toast, lightly buttered with Strawberry preserves. Met a lot rampers over the years and they're not generally speaking, people you want to piss off.

Your story sounds familiar. Were you Piney Bob who also claimed "Chairman" status? You must be very lonely to need all this attention after you get off the airplane. That is, if you are a "Chairman". Do you have any friends or hobbies? You seem like someone who needs lots attention.

Ah, the Philly thing. As a Cowboys fan dating back to the Staubach era, I picked up on the Snooki attitude. That annoying Jersey girl with a big mouth. As far as having to be careful. It's not me that has anything to worry about. I can take care of myself.

Who I was or wasn't is none of your concern. Furthermore it's not the issue at hand. Keep deflecting from the real issues by attacking me.

Not my fault you work for substandard pay rates, if you behaved like responsible adults you'd have a unified & committed work group ready willing and able to take on the company 3-4 years ago. Don't attack me or the ramp because 16,000 posts & five years later you still have your collective heads up your arse. Not a Sparrowhawk Problem.

Here's a thought for you to ponder when you write up the ramp. The DOT tracks certain performance indicators, On-time arrival/Departure, lost/delayed bags, Cancellations & Customer Complaints. A quick glance will tell you that the ramp can effect those numbers a great deal. How fast they "turn" a plane, ensuring proper routing of bags all of which has a direct impact on customer complaints. US is obsessed with those numbers as the executive bonuses are tied to them. Now then who has the greatest ability to impact those numbers? A group of angry rampers or one pissed off pilot with a God Complex? When you figure that out and everything else is equal, Management will side with the ramp in a "He said, she said" situation

Sadly the truth is that it's harder to get someone to work the ramp for $9.59/hr than it is to replace you. Just sayin'

The ramp agent that asked/told the flight crew member to get off the ramp did nothing wrong, he/she was doing what they are told to do, challenge anyone without a SIDA badge. If the aircraft is not on the gate, there is absolutley no reason for a crew member to be on the ramp. Now, what if the ramp agent did not challenge the crew member and TSA or Airport Ops were watching, who would have gotten their SIDA pulled if the badge did not have an ES endorsement on it? It's just like a Capt is in charge of the aircraft, the ramp agents are in charge of the ramp until that aircraft parks....No badge, no aircraft on the blocks, stay in the terminal until your legal to go out... Kudos to the ramp agent for following the rules...

We've had people fined for NOT challenging people on the ramp. The poster is correct. Pilots are only allowed around the footprint of the aircraft to accomplish a preflight inspection.
