IBT/UAL contract rejection, what does it mean to us at AA?

SWA Fleet just secured an over 9% match starting in 2019. There isn't much of a difference between any of the 4 Major airlines these days IMO and if they can negotiate that item I see no reason why we can't either.

But there is a difference. Both SWA and UPS deposit 9.?% and 13% respectively of your EARNINGS, not a MATCH of what you deposit. That is a BIG difference. This is a mechanic thread, so everything I compare is obviously mechanic contracts. I wish the rampers all the best and all of my support, but I am more concerned about my profession right now.

I'm sorry but I guess I should understand that people in your profession live in a bubble disconnected from anything and everything that affects others?

Even people working on the International Space Station have contact with Earth in case you didn't realize.

Why would you expect us to negotiate what the ramp negotiated? We both have our different strengths and weaknesses. We both have our different needs. I need to look at my maintenance peers in the industry for comparisons, not pilots, not flight attendants and not the ramp.

I don't understand what you are getting at? Why would you bring up rampers in this conversation? Why am I not on this earth? And, what does my negotiations have anything to do with other work groups at this point?

Lastly, why do people keep on grouping me with different work groups, then tell me I am not on this earth? I don't interject myself in to others negotiations because I have no business in it.

Why not just support us when we need it and that's it, just as I would do for you? I will let you do what you need, then when you ask/need help, I will be there without prejudice?

I LOVE the APFA language for the 401k match. The only problem with it though is it has a drop dead date of December 31, 2018 and then all revert back to a 5.5% match.
I'd like to see our guys negotiate and secure that 401k tiered (by age) match for the entire membership without the drop dead date.
That would be my personal 1st "choice"https://www.apfa.org/images/jcba/122314/Section-26.pdf
Obviously, I used the FAs language as an absolute floor for mechanics, and the drop dead date was a period of 5 years, again , a floor only.

And all excellent points here as well.
Obviously, the 9 and 13 percent of EARNINGS should be the target for the mechanics 401k Contribution.
I seriously question if we have the right guys at the table to actually try and go there.

Woop you must understand that at AA AMTs don't get any representation at the international level.  We are tied to Fleet Service and cannot get away.  As we speak there is a Fleet Service Clerk in charge of our negotiations.  I would also like to mention that AMTs at AA have the inferior benefits to Fleet Service.  You need to save yourself some time and don't respond to this guy.  His whole intent is to cause trouble on this thread.  He has no business discussing our issues but he can't stay away.  Please put him on ignore and if enough do that he'll go away.

I brought up a group within our industry that just ratified an agreement that includes a pretty decent 401k match that just happens to be Fleet service at SWA. I read ALL the contracts in our industry including Mechanics, FA's, Pilots, etc and even stray outside of our industry as well for ideas and tidbits of things that seem like good ideas. Those things I find I pass up to our negotiators because maybe they'll find them interesting and give them food for thought in their talks.

If all you're looking at for ideas is just Aircraft Mechanics then you're really doing yourself and your group a disservice since it seems to me that there isn't one contract in our industry that you guys feel has anything good in them?

Either way, you lost any respect I might have had by attacking me before even knowing my position.

Why would you assume I haven't looked at others?

I do look at others, but I have no skin in their game and would never intervene until asked. And by the way, 13% of earnings is a LOT better than 9% match of contributions!

So in summation, I am looking at what's best for ME and my mechanic PEERS without wanting to hurt any other groups.

I hope you understand where I stand now, and that you are not just trying to flame bate me into an unneeded conversation at this point. All groups need to support each other at this point.    When asked!

I hate to ignore anybody. I like to see all points of view, but I must agree. I feel like he is just trying to sidetrack this conversation.

No bait. And a decent honest response. And I do 100% wish you and your peers well. And all groups do need to support each other. I just personally believe that that time is now.

Not at all. So I'll sit back for now as long as my group or my Union is not brought into the conversation.

Peace.

Sean Doyle isnt in charge of negotiations, he is the lead for the TWU.

You all seem to forget the IAM is there too, and they are all mechanics from the IAM and one stock clerk, as Stores is on the M&R CBA at US.

So let me get this straight, you only want mechanics posting, but its ok for mechanics to go over to the fleet thread and post.

I get it, double standard, hypocrisy.
