Below is AMFA National's yearly update. Take note in para 1 that this offer is in fact a company offer: "the Company's Seniority Integration Proposal"

Jan 31, 2012 - Posted by: Louie Key

Dear Members:

This month, and year, started right off with a very busy schedule. The AMFA Southwest Airlines (SWA) Seniority Integration Committee concluded the informational road show explaining Letters of Agreement (LOAs) to the SWA Contract, the Company’s Seniority Integration Proposal, and the Integration/Transition Agreement that will be presented to our SWA members across the system for ratification. The first vote will include four LOAs and the results will be tallied on February 14th; the second vote will be on the Seniority Integration Package and the results will be tallied on February 21st. Please pay particularly close attention to the AMFA National website for voting details and information. I attended the Local 32 membership meeting on January 4th and have a full appreciation of the members concerns surrounding these issues.

On January 17th the AMFA Horizon Air Organizing Committee filed for a representation election to once again be represented by the AMFA. The disappointment many felt toward the IBT and their string of broken promises motivated a grassroots organizing effort to re-join AMFA - the only craft union representing, and fighting for, the aircraft maintenance technician. We are now waiting for the National Mediation Board to set the dates for the election. If you speak with one of the Horizon Air mechanics, let them know we are all looking forward to having them back in our union.

The SWA Appearance Technician Negotiations resumed the first week of January in Dallas, and there are two sessions scheduled for the first two weeks of February.

The Alaska Airlines contract passed final review this month and is being sent to the printers. The contract will be distributed in the near future.

The transition of Mesaba Airlines into Pinnacle Airlines concluded on January 4th, and many of the former Mesaba members are interested in unionizing the property. We are prepared to assist them in their efforts to bring the union in as their collective bargaining representative and look forward to working with their organizing committee.

For more carrier specific updates and further information regarding AMFA and the airline industry, please visit the AMFA National Web site at www.AMFANational.org and remember our most determined efforts will only succeed with your continued support and participation – Please stay informed. With your participation we will jointly craft our collective future. Work together, support one another, and be proud of your important profession.

I thought the same thing. They all know they are going to have to deal with new paperwork, proceedures and policys. It just comes with the change. It's the same as starting at a new company, your gonna have to learn the way they do their paperwork and stuff. This comment about not willing "anymore" to give up senority b/c of having to learn our paperwork is more than likely just an excuss for, opps, maybe I screwed up earlier when I offered some senority and now we may have a possibility of this being part of the next offer coming. I think they now see it as more probable of coming to reality, at least a better chance now.

Ok guys, relax, it's called sarcasm, it's a method of relaxing the atmosphere, don't read so much into it... The running joke is that we're giving you 70% more seniority and taking on 70% more paperwork resposibility.. Har har...

Anyways, TRAX has the capability to go completely paperless, except for task cards and Non routines, you sign your task card and input your non routine into TRAX and print it out. No need to hand write anything!! Not even AirTran has reached that level of MX with TRAX.

Swadl, the paperwork isn't difficult, it's just leaves a lot of room for error. You guys haven't seen the ETOPS log
Book nor the new non routines/ sam 943T cards yet. You'll see them soon I suppose, but there is way too much room for error in your MPM and the my Boeing fleet sucks!! And I can't believe it allows you sign something off with just MM as a reference... AT's GMM requires at least the 4 digit ATA while most of us use the 6 digit or task itself.

Ok. Thx.
We were suppose to be paperless as well. Don't know if we will ever get there. Still not completely paperless yet. A lot of new changes are coming for all of us. We will all deal with them as they arise.

What you just predicted would be better than what is currently being voted on, so just vote NO.
At the beginning of this SLI process almost every member was demanding that AMFA put the AT mechanics on the bottom and would not settle for anything less. Then they became more educated about how the process worked and realized that a staple was not an option. So then demands were for the committee to get as much seniority as possible. The committee did just as they were told and got a SLI agreement far superior to any other, except now the Membership doesn't like fences, understandably so. I see a lot of posts on here saying that all we have to do is remove fences and get AT to agree to a 25-35% reduction. Those are the unrealistic expectations that I will lambast every time. The SLI Neg. Comm. followed the Membership's direction all the way through the process. Now tell me at what point did the Membership ever say they would not accept any fences and would accept a DOH SLI. That deal would have taken 5 minutes.

Has anyone received the 2nd ballot yet?

Amen brother,, you are Correct,, we got screwed,, but just to be clear here, it was the junior FA's that did it to themselves, I guarantee very very few 12 year+ FA's voted yes. Do you know how many hours I spent trying to tell the junior FA's to STOP listening to all the Arbitration threats and vote NO... well we got the answer on how many listened to the logic..

It is a crying shame but it is the way it is, this deal doesnt impact my life ONE ounce and I found it funny that I was the one screaming for them to wake up...Nope the junior FA's looked at 2.5 years and screwed themselves, maybe its because I had to work all these years to get what we got, they only had to work 3-5 years and knew nothing about what it took to get to this point. I cant say for sure but the AT fa's WON a lottery and we original SWA FA's will be paying that lottery debt off for the rest of our lifes

I dont know but it will haunt our Junior FA's the rest of their carreers,, the amount of mauling AT got away with is unprecidented... So hang in there guys,, If the AT mechs try to pull that 2.5 crap with you guys,, go to arbitration.... Lets stop the greed and bleeding, hope you guys walk away with a sniff of fairness...
i'm pretty sure arbitration is in our future, and i'm ok with that a couple ways. First i didn't give away anything , i had my day in court and will or will not lose, but i didn't GIVE it away. Also it won't be the companys decision. Arbitration will be between amfa and at. Either way I'll live just fine with any ruling handed down. I just want to know why the company is so quick to blow off the employees that make southwest what it is today and suck up to the unproven airtran employees...... can anyone anwser that?

I actually hope it's not in our future. But I am not willing to vote something in just because AT and SWA threaten arbitration like some mechanics are doing, which is pathetic. I like where you posted that it won't be the company's decision, and I bet they hate that. Also, you are correct, if we goto arbitration it will in fact only be between AMFA and AT which is exacally what it should be. I too will be fine with whatever the arbitrador hands us. You do make a very valid point, why did the company bend over backwards and so quickly give them everything? Where the company screwed up was pleasing only 3-400 employees, instead of 1700 "current" employees. I talked to a brand spankin new probie the other day, and he was in shock how the company was catering to the AT guys over the present employees as well. The reason I mention this is that the companies actions are being seen by all employees, and now all the new hires are seeing how the company is taking care of non-SWA employees better than the current long term employees. Speaks volumes to the outsiders looking in... When it get's here I will still be a "NO" vote!!

Just because we go to arbitration doesnt mean we have to ratify a new contract with the judges decision if we dont like it. I am perfectly happy working the rest of my carreer with our current CBA. There is a fresh pool of 5600 mechanics that will be happy to hire in off the street
