I just worked with a former "EAST" F/A - Many topics

I highly doubt anyone would speak of security issues on a public forum.

Why?

Hiding "issues", according to the most globally respected experts, will only lead to breaches.

Rather than hiding security flaws, perhaps it is far better to discuss and resolve, rather than sweeping those "issues" under the carpet and hoping a violence-minded person will not discover the flaw and exploit it.

I say, make it public. Any smart person can figure it out anyway, so, why wait and likely be caught unaware. Works in the corporate security and computer world. I don't know why it would not work in the airline or transportation world.

After all, publicizing ones vulnerabilities alerts _ALL_ to be, well, alert.

I am tired of cretins who think "terrorists" are stupid.

The uphold all great values and safety and security for all. They keep Sharp knives out of the airport. :p

But let a wooden stake through.

I thought the GOVT looked after the special challenged:

Screeners chasing down her mentally challenged kids because they started running down the concourse because the initial screener came at her with a wand scaring the kid off...

TOO MUCH POWER:

Goofs working for TSA have about as much training, experience and thought processes as a burger flipper (and they get paid about as much). They let the real thing slip by time and time again ("tests" done by news organizations, and the govt.) yet they'll bring an entire airport to a standstill because of someone left a Taco Bell bag by a pay phone. B)

NO FLY LIST:

If your own it.. IT takes an ACT of Congress to get off of it.

TSA Opening your bags:

Anchorage to Nashville. Going through security she identified herself as a professional photographer and politely requested a hand inspection of her medium format camera and forty plus rolls of 120 format film. She stopped the inspection when she saw the TSA employee ripping open her foil-sealed rolls of Fujifilm prior to wanding them for trace chemical sniffing. She was told that this was now standard operating procedure as per a new bulky TSA manual that was just delivered yesterday to Anchorage International Airport. The inspector stated that all film that was not 35mm in see-through plastic containers had to be opened. Randi explained that the manufacturer's foil packaging protecting the individual rolls keeps the film clean, light tight and dry over a long trip.

How they treat CREW:

virtue of searching for explosives in my shoes, or removing my nail clippers after a thorough search of my bag. Or even better yet taking all your stuff out of your bag in front of your other crew members.
Being told you dont get a private Screening area....

CAPPS II THE FUTURE OF THE TSA::: Its in place
The CAPPS II system will use extensive data mining of credit history and criminal records, as well as travel patterns routinely collected by the airlines. As if this wasn't bad enough, NASA has even proposed developing "noninvasive" neuroelectric sensors, or brain scans, for use at the screening points to see if people are having "suspicious thoughts".

As laughable as that may sound, it is a premonition of the future to come if we do not stop it now. The TSA promises that all of this info will not be misused and only given out to those with a "need to know". What the TSA is not telling you is that they reserve the right to give out the info to just about anyone they deem necessary.

I have serious difficulty with what is called "routine use of records in the system". As it stands now, TSA may "routinely" disclose information from the system to:" Federal, State and Local agencies responsible for investigating or prosecuting the violations of a statute, rule, regulation, order, or license, where TSA becomes aware of an indication of a violation or potential violation of civil or criminal law or regulation." (2) So, the TSA may have some INDICATION that there may be some POTENTIAL for you to break a CIVIL law and they may have the authorities meet you at your destination. In other words...didn't pay that parking ticket? Late on your child support? Pull the label off your mattress? Have suspicious brain waves going through the screening point? You may be in for quite a day at "Airport Jail".

TSA is able to do with YOUR private information. They may deem it necessary to give out to: "Contractors, grantees, experts, consultants, agents and other non-federal employees performing or working on a contract, or other assignment from the Federal government."

They can give out your personal information to the NEWS MEDIA !!! "In accordance with the guidelines which relate to civil and criminal proceedings

TSA
Five surgeons are discussing who was the best patients to operate on.
The first surgeon says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered."
The second responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded."
The third surgeon says, "No, I really think librarians are the best; everything inside them is in alphabetical order."
The fourth surgeon chimes in: "You know, I like construction workers. Those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over at the end, and when the job takes longer than you said it would."
But the fifth surgeon shut them all up when he observed: "You're all wrong. TSA supervisors, screening managers and FSD's are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains and no spine, and the head and the ass are interchangeable!"

TSA IN my thoughts:

Okay, this morning I turned in my company ID. When I came back out to the parking lot I found that someone had written “STOOPID SLIDEBLOWERâ€￾ on all the windows of my IROC-Z. They even did the T-tops.

That was the first thing I bought when I hit A Scale, and I really don’t appreciate it.

Did you blow a slide? I'm guessing by the post?
did you quit? Or are you own 30 days unpaid leave/susp?

Hum? It must have been other employees that did that to your car? VERY UN-PROFFESSIONAL....

I just flew with a former "EAST" f/a who was based in Philly. She was commuting from the west, so this works out better for her. She said she seem to like the west system better of first come, first serve and being able to distribute the hours with all the reserves. She said in the east,

Well she must have left the East years ago because it has not been "by Seniority" in quite some time.
Ask any f/a who is on this new reserve system (on the East Coast)if they like it and the answer is no.
Where else (except for Reserves) has a group of employees had their seniority taken from them through the use of a Union?

Let’s just completely do away with seniority. Just show up in the crew room and wait for trips to be called out over the loudspeaker.

FCFS across the board.

<note to sysops: it seems like I’m getting a ton of Flood Control messages when I try to post. I can only reply to one post at a time as well.>

Serious Question- Would implementation of the East Contract have any effect on procedures like the "Door Aeorobics" and other such measures?
Bob,

I may have missed someone answering your question, so pardon any duplication.....

Nope - contract and operating policies are completely separate (except a few items that are based on FAR's like pilot duty limits).

...i had a hefty seatbelt extension using fa last week...it is no wonder she is as heavy as she is...she sat on the jumpseat half the flight listening to her walkman with her eyes closed and mouthing the words and moving her head...it was quite a sight...she told fc pax to go in the back and see if they have any pillows or snacks.

Pretty...

Your information about East reserve system is wrong. The system is only seniority driven the first day of the month. Then it's percent of hours flown. The reason she doesn't fly has NOTHING to do with her seniority. Everything to do with overstaffing. Before you post...get the facts

I am friends with a bunch of east FA's and they generally feel the same way except they want to be able to pass trips. Some of the east people think that will be coming back ... highly doubtful IMHO. Of course certain east FA's refuse to follow west procedures even though they are working west and even go so far to wear their east uniforms. Then they brag about doing it the real "east" way. That just makes all east FA's look bad. I cannot wait to see their faces when the door arming and disarming procedures become like the west way ... LOTS of changes for both sides coming.

Um, I am pretty sure I said nothing about the person that does not fly. Not sure what you are babbling about.

This has so gotten out of hand and completely crazy. Who cares who you worked for how you used to do things. We all work for the new USAirways and maybe at some point we will all be required to do things the same way. Until then, no way is better than another it is just a different way of doing the same thing ... hauling people safely from one place to another!

:p
As long as we don't get forgotten like how the West agents "forget" people!!!!
When did this happen? and Everyone can make a mistake... Give him/her the ben of the doubt... .Anyhow... It could have been weight restricted? I know PHX-DFW is all the time... Maybe it could have been the reason? And maybe the gate agent was new? It all happens....

But not DOH/or FCFS works out perfect... But no matter the decision.... I hope we can all come to accept it... and move own.... :p But I still want my FCFS...
