Mubarak is supposedly supposed to appear on national TV. What the heck he's going to say about the situation is anybodies guess.

I just got home and read about that. I hope this dos not spiral out of control. Mubarak needs to just pack up and leave. Dismissing his government while he stays in power is not going to work.

The wild card in all this appears to be the Egyptian Army. While they have been deployed they do not seem to be taking much action. Heck, there were people climbing up on APC's and chatting it up with the soldiers. Mubarak is probably aware that if he were to order the army to take direct action the army could very well turn on him. A thug in the police or secret police will have no problem using force, he knows if the government falls he's in a world of hurt. A young soldier on the other hand more than likely does not have the stomach for that sort of thing.

I also think the idea of taking up arms against your fellow citizens would be factor. This is not a tribal thing like in Iraq. This is just people frustrated with the status quo and trying to change it. Not much violence. No IED's. So I don't think the military relishes the idea of taking up arms against their own people.

I think this is the only way a country can change it's future. They have to want it and they have to change it from with in. Change cannot be forced on a population and expect it to work. I guess it remains to be seen if the Egyptians can force Mubarak out or if he will hang on for a while longer. I do believe that Dictators/plutocracy or how ever you want to define Egypt's form of government are going to go away. With all the communication forms available these days, the younger generations are not going to just sit idly by any more. I think if Egypt falls, that will have a huge ripple effect.

It's going to depend on who gets into power. The younger generations are not nearly as religious as the older ones. I won't be surprised if an anti-western power grabs the reigns. We have screwed up so much in the ME that is has come back to haunt us. You cannot beat an animal and then wonder why it turns on you.

How is it a devout non believer-atheist is now an expert on what the younger peoples religious beliefs in a country half way around the world? Seriously? :blink:
Ignorance knows no bounds for liberal progressive atheists. The MB is the most anti-western group in the ME and they are posed to swoop in. They are also the most vocal and currently most active.

Maybe to some extent in Iran............that won't really matter. Muslim Brotherhood is going to run herd and all will follow. Much like Taliban rule.

This is a historic moment for the religion of peace and will be will be Obama's worst moments as a lame duck President.
