CWA Files for Representation Election

You're partially right - the DOJ includes agencies like the FBI, DEA, US Marshals Service, and ATF which enforce federal laws but the DOJ itself or the Attorney General is basically the government's lawyer. That role is no different than a lawyer you hire.

As eolesen said, Congress makes laws and the Judiciary determines the constitutionality of those laws and how they apply to specific cases.

Exactly who is fighting hard?

American Airlines should comply with an order from U.S. labor officials and clear the way for its passenger service agents to vote on having a union, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a letter.
"It is troubling that a company in bankruptcy, which should be endeavoring to cut waste, may be using its limited resources incurring fees in new litigation solely to suspend the election process and deny workers the right to choose for themselves whether or not to have union representation," wrote Pelosi, D-Calif.; Rahall, D-W.Va., a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; and Miller, D-Calif., of the Education and Workforce Committee.

American Airlines agents made impassioned pleas in a Capitol Hill briefing June 1, telling key congressional staff members that they are being denied a lawful right to vote for a union even as the company is threatening to outsource, downsize and otherwise diminish their jobs.

So a company that should be focused on eliminating waste and cutting costs should hold an election where the goal of organizing is to raise costs and prevent the company from eliminating waste?...

Maybe Nancy should be using her limited resources to get a budget passed instead of trying to interfere with the bankruptcy process.

Thanks for admitting that having union representation would increase/save take precautions for the passenger service agent and help provide better work rules pay benefits like ever other frontline work group

No problem, if you admit that your response confirms the goal of organizing is to engage in featherbedding and increase costs with no value returned to the company.

My response confirms the goal of unions and CWA is to negotiate and bargain and vote on a collective bargaining agreement like every other front line worker at AA I call it necessary you call it a WASTE. Your response unions are and create WASTE. We get it

CWA is needed. Managers need to take note of this because according to the contract that the CWA has in place with US Airways customer service, management jobs are created and protected basically along with the agent jobs. If a station needs a certain amount flights to have CWA representation that also creates manager jobs. Which creates more HDQ work..that's what we need at American is job security for all.

Very good point on job creation on in-house work
Some people think mainline employees working mainline flights making mainline industry standard pay benefits work rules and having a voice in such is a WASTE

The Election is ON!
National Mediation Board declared that we can vote starting Thursday June 21, when ballot instructions will be mailed out. Voting will continue until the ballots are tallied on Thursday, Aug. 2.

“It is the NMB’s longstanding policy consistent with (existing law) to resolve representation disputes as expeditiously as possible,” wrote NMB General Counsel Mary L. Johnson. “The Board notes that as a result of American’s Motion, the processing of this representation case has already been delayed for four weeks.”
Citing precedent established in previous cases, the Board declared, “Since American refuses to comply with the Board’s orders, the Board exercises its authority pursuant to 45 U.S.C. § 152, Ninth, to ‘utilize any appropriate method’ and will proceed with the election using the mailing labels provided by the CWA.”

While American Airlines could still shop around for a judge to issue an injunction to stop the election, the NMB pointed out that the company has not done so to this point, even though it has cited cases in which companies did file for permanent injunctions. “The mere filing of a motion seeking declaratory judgment does not halt the Board’s proceedings,” the ruling stated.
