CLT Larger than MIA

Not interested but the CLT operation is still going to be smaller next summer even if all this holds, it's been cut.

This thread is ABOUT CLT.
And the CLT international operation, as is reflected in the RES, will be smaller than last summer.

If you ask me, we, AA flight attendants need something in the TA requiring the installation of bona-fide crew rest facilities if they plan on working us on the A330 slave ship for long haul.

Clt must be doing something right, parking is at a premium, of course construction has hindered the parking operation. Off site parking is jammed, second valet deck soon to open. I don't think the city would have done the east and west term expansions if they were not given some sort of assurances from AA that Clt was safe for a while. The main terminal and front roadway expansion is still scheduled for start up, the airport should be ok for the near future....

Uhh, airport parking exists solely for O&D passengers, and unless the population of the Charlotte metro area declines substantially or the income of the Charlotte metro area population declines, the O&D will be there whether or not new AA continues to connect millions of people who never see the parking lots or even exit the sterile area.

The construction of new parking areas is in no way a vote of confidence that the huge connecting flows continue.

CLT doesn't have enough O&D but what it has pays pretty high fares. Nobody is questioning that side of the equation. The only issue is whether new AA rationalizes the CLT hub to more closely match the connecting percentages of other typical hubs. At most big hubs, O&D is about half the passengers and connecting traffic about half the passengers. At CLT, on the other hand, only about 20% to 25% are O&D and the other 75% to 80% are connecting.

That huge imbalance of O&D and connecting passengers is why the CLT hub produces the lowest unit revenues (PRASM) of any East Coast hub, according to AA management at CLT (quoted in the CLT paper in June of 2014).

No **** Sherlock, But I believe the OP started this thread about O&D.....

and it is a whole lot easier for ANY airline to protect its control over the O&D market if they have a large hub that serves connecting traffic which gives them an advantage over other carriers that do not carry as many connecting passengers.

And any carrier's control over the local market increases their ability to increase or maintain high fares.

so, what US does with the CLT hub absolutely affects the O&D market
